i have served 5 years under contract in GRU special forces. at one point i observed training of conscripts- it's a fucking joke.. we had it fuckin hard, seriously (as to be expected), spending whole nights on the push-up position on our fists: open your palm- fingers are broken, stick your ass out- literally "ass-kicking", bend inwards- broken ribs, but at least we were fuckin pushed to the limit and taught to survive in any situation. conscripts are just mauled, they get no real training.

Then was the war with Poland, Russia was winning but then it offered a peace treaty. As for WW2, the US didn't help much, just about 95% of the Soviet equipment was Soviet made. After defeating the Germans at Stalingrad and Kursk...

Then there was the war with Japan again (there were battles before the war with Germany which were victories for the USSR), but in 1945 was the Manchuria offensive which was also a Soviet victory. I do not understand what you mean by always lost.

I am american and am one of few who isn't on credit friend. Not all of us fit the steriotype but most do. Yes Russia has some great technology coming. No I am not too afraid. Our technology is going into small "nano" manufacturing... edm machining and such.. that and making what we have more efficient. Trust me you have nice stuff and well trained soldiers but so do we. Hopefully it will not come that far... But if it is... I think that NATO, and especially the US will heave the advantage in equipment. A lot of Russian equipment quite aged... They' re updating it now, but still there is a generation gap between the country's equipment. For example the Sukhoi Pak-Fa has the stealth technology from the F117. But the F22 and F35 is already second generation stealth.

In the past 150 years Russia was involved in the Russo-Turkish war (Russian victory), war with Japan (Japanese victory), WW1, Russia was losing but then left due to revolution. Then was the war with Poland, Russia was winning but then it offered a peace treaty. As for WW2, the US didn't help much, just about 95% of the Soviet equipment was Soviet made. After defeating the Germans at Stalingrad and Kursk...

@CuiusRegio the Soviets had nothing standing in their way to victory, the US may have prevented the war from lasting about half a year longer than it did by landing in Western Europe, but most of the work in WW2 was done by the Soviets. Then there was the war with Japan again (there were battles before the war with Germany which were victories for the USSR), but in 1945 was the Manchuria offensive which was also a Soviet victory. I do not understand what you mean by always lost.

Such as frogs in space (Which is hilarious by the way. Check it out if you have the time), and other various tests to see what certain things did in space. We also collected rocks from the moon. However you are right, the moonlanding was no more symbolic/political than the USA catching Osama Bin Laden.
