  • Robin Pecknold sent me... so cool!

  • just wow

  • When I saw Brian perform the entire Pet Sounds album in concert a few years back, they sang these background vocals during "Don't Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder")

  • Man...! I couldn't quit listen'n to it! He's got those tracks in his head - he sounds quite focused and poised. Over-dubbing is cool, esp the way the B'Boys did it...(or was it Brian?).

  • @bob4analog

It was Brian - it was always Brian. Everything good and amazing that came out of the beach boys was Brian Wilson (maybe with some help here and there). But he was the master mind. His idea to overdub the way the Beach Boys did.

  • my father' s deaf. if he could have 1 minute to listen in his life, i'll make listen this to him

  • @TheSibemolle - that's a wonderful thing to say and you couldn't give him a better 60 seconds :)

  • So moving... incredible!

  • Is there a full blown take of Don't Talk with the vocal background included?

  • Does anyone have this in sheet music or MIDI form?

  • @DonZabu Haha MIDI

  • @BuyBenco

    What's so funny?

  • @DonZabu MIDIs funny and 80s watch TimnEric Cinco MIDI File Organizer

  • @BuyBenco

I just want something that can show me what the individual notes are, and MIDI does that.

  • @DonZabu Hahahaha oak

  • @DonZabu For me, it's the most satisfying when someone figures out the individual

partsa and then records them one at a time to see how close one can get. That's the way to learn from the Master !

  • @DonZabu I recorded a version on my channel and i could email you the individual parts as an audio file if you'd like. Then you could just upload them onto a multitrack recording program track by track.

  • good lord.

  • Does anyone know where to get sheet music for this?

  • love the way they are so casual after just recording one of the best pieces of harmony i've ever heard?

  • beautiful

  • How did this not make the final cut!?

  • @rab2591 that's what i was thinking... yet the final cut is still perfect?

  • you are absolutely right. I think it would have been perfect in the song, but the song is perfect even without it.

This track right here made me finally break down and buy the 'Pet Sounds Sessions' - best money I spent on an album thus far.

  • @rab2591 i agree, i'd still love to hear a version of the song with this mindblowing excerpt included! my fav song on the album as well.

  • @AndyMowat I tried making a version with this harmony in garageband but the timing of this piece does not fit the actual song (since Brian only created this harmony to show the session musicians what the song's mood would be like)....I'm gonna try and figure out the timing because it could fit the song perfectly. If you haven't already, check out the 'Behind the Sounds' video of 'Don't Talk' here on youtube...it includes the stereo version of this bit as well as a lot of info on the song itself

  • @AndyMowat I finally go around to creating a version of this song with this harmony in it...you can view it on my page. I had to slow the harmony way down and my editing isn't perfect, but it almost sounds good!

  • Jesus, he could've done the entire album's vocals himself, couldn't he?

  • @DonZabu sometime in the 70's he arranged "rhapsody in blue" just vocals. luckily we'll be hearing that soon enough.

  • 1. Early 70's or late 70's?

    2. WHENWHENWHENWHENWHEN????

  • well i read a quote where he said he listened to it for a week so he could learn every note. then he once tried to record it in the 90's. but then a new recording will be done for his Gershwin album coming out

  • @DonZabu

Exactly. I think he did on some songs...while the boys were touring without him. Then, he would tell them their parts when they got back, and dubbed them in. He was and still is AMAZING.

  • that little snippit of music literally gave me goose bumps.Music like is like a rare diamond!

  • The Beachboys don't even use auto-tune like every single modern day crappy group in rap and hip hop.

  • Oh yeah, I have this one. a backing track section for Don't Talk.

  • Blows my mind

    John Hunter Phillips

  • wowzers. i dont think i will ever understand how brian wilson got his head around multi-part harmonies that were so complex. I just have to believe that he is one of the rare people who could hear it all in his head and then start unraveling it, and translating it all to music and vocals... favorited. thanks for sharing!

  • Goosebumps arrived and took me by surprise!

  • Just like A wave coming in and rolling away.

  • Not since Mozart have we seen a genius like Brian. And it will be that long a wait again. So, all of you out there - GRAB everything EVER DONE by Brian that you can get your hands on !!

  • You forgot Beethoven.

  • yes it's Brian's voice overdubbed multiple times. That's so amazing, his voice range, you can hear all of that low notes in perfect harmony with high notes... omg...

  • really? that's ridiculous.

  • What's ridiculous ? This is incredibly great harmony

  • I meant that in a positive way. His abilities seemed to know no bounds from '63-'67.

  • Oh ok LOL

Good vibes to you from Hawaii

    JHP

  • I read that the chorus snippet is actually Brian with his voice overdubbed multiple times. He recorded it while the Beach Boys were on tour.

  • WOW AMAZING

  • This is amazing. Like said below, haunting. It is really amazing

  • This will haunt my dreams through eternity.

  • this is beautiful
