  • I grew up in Salt Lake City, watching John from day one, when he started playing for the Jazz.He is "Simply The Best" at the guard position. It was an honor to have watched him play during his career.John and Karl developed a playing style that had never been seen and I don't think will ever be duplicated again.Stockton to Malone,I enjoyed watching you two play basketball.I had a lot of respect for Jerry Sloan and Hot Rod Hundley,I loved to hear Hot Rod call the Jazz games. He made it fun to watch.

  • I think he was better than joran in my eyes. Jordan was just a ball hog.

  • @imnotbad9

the ball hog got 6 rings though..

  • 6 people are WNBA fans

  • he kept himself at peak condition and had the discipline to study the game and his opponents. Was always unselfish to a fault plus the team management never surrounded him with enough talent, but his teams always made the playoffs. he sacrificed his body setting picks against opposing centers and forwards in almost every play. With his shooting touch, unparalleled court vision, large hands, speed, and timing, he was able to overcome his size disadvantage. The best true NBA point guard ever.

  • ultimate team player

  • one of the best athletes ever played the game a true lion heart and i am a bulls fan since 1993

  • one of the best athletes ever played the game a true lion heart

  • one of my fav players of all time!!!!! and this is coming from a Lakers fan!!

  • 4 dislikes? Its hunting time!!!

  • very nice song..luv it..

  • you were are and will remain my inspiration to play basket ball

  • He was one of the best but also one of the dirtest player. He gets away with it because of his squeaky clean image.

  • Absolutely fenominal passer, and always put his team first. I hated the jazz, and it was so much because john stockton tore people apart with his ability to pass it to anyone at will, and have them score

  • white power

  • he is my idol forever. From Thailand

  • Wut's funny is John Stockton was voted the most dirty player in the league by his peers 6 consecutive seasons. That's just funny to me

  • The baddest white dude ever on a NBA cout not named Larry Bird or Pistol Pete

  • what a shooter and a passer dawm ...... one of the greatest gaurds of all time

  • The best pure PG to ever play the game

  • whats the song called?

  • John Stockton always left it out on the floor and always played with heart and desire. We forget how good some players were when you haven't seen them play for awhile. He was the best at that time and so was Karl malone

  • 3 words I miss hearing at a Jazz game:

    "STOCKTON TO MALONE!!!!!"

That, ladies and gentlemen, is a phrase that means a lot to Jazz fans everywhere.

  • The jazz went on a PG drought after Stockton retired. Finally they got Deron Williams to take over. Now they need to win their first championship.

  • NOBODY wore shorts like John Stockton

  • Best point guard of all time no one did it better , him and Karl perfected the pick and roll brilliantly.

  • the best ! forever !

  • The Best...

  • I miss those pretty hazel eyes of his and one of the best point guards in the NBA!

  • John Stockton is the perfect example for all professional athletes. He did his job, fought hard and never gave up. John wasn't always the best or the biggest, but he had more heart and desire than anyone. He never complained or argued about money with the team. He understood that he was the lucky one to get to play basketball for a living. Most other athletes these days only want more money and are pissed if they don't get it.

  • reggie miller too

  • @perfect1150 Dont agree. He was the BEST.

  • @perfect1150 For the most part, you were right... except for saying "John wasn't always the best"

  • @perfect1150 I agree with everything you said except, "John wasn't always the best or the biggest." Stockton is always the best! I can't see his record on assist and steal ever get surpassed. There are many good players. There are many great players still. There is Stockton, a category of its own.

  • jordan took rings from all the legends sad but true!

  • I was at the retirement ceremony in the Delta Center with my best friend Matt. I remember it like it was yesterday. After all seats filled...they turned off the lights and Hot Rod called out, "Now for the last time ever, point guard out of Gonzaga, #12 John Stockkkkkkkkkkkkton. And then everybody stood up....and they played "Simply the best." I cried like a sissy, but never turned to look at Matt, neither did he. About 4 hours later he asked me if I cried....I said yeah....he's all, "Me too!"

  • @phillyphan801 Good story, dude. I would have cried too, I'm sure. This dude was an absolute warrior. But I'm pretty sure it woulda been stooooooooockton, not stockkkkkkkkkton lol

  • ... 2 of the same one in a row karl malone is 6''9

  • The NBA not the same... :(

  • The best PG ever, no one is even close. We miss you John.

  • A PG who takes second to none. Embodies everything you would ever want of your dream PG, My five of all time John Stockton, MJ, Larry, Tim Duncan and the Dream...Olajuwon

  • Stockton is "the best", like the song

  • i think thats the best PG ever !!!! hes gamplay are fantastic oldschool !!!!

  • John, you were simply the best:) I've been watching you for many years. Greetings from Poland.

  • great player (not dirty!he just answerd to physicall plays!!)sometimes with great moves and no look pass!even at the age of 41 he made whatever a team needed.the more i watch his games the more i find him great ! truely one of the best of all time!!!!!!

  • man i really miss John......... :'( he knew at all times where every single one of his team mates were on the floor, AMAZING!!!!

  • we love you john,,,,for ever,,,,,where are you now and what are you doing???

  • awesome vid and good song choice

  • which is the song's title?

  • tina turner-simply the best

  • Best point guard and passer ever to live

  • people often forget about John Stockton, he was one of the best point guards to ever play the game

i just wish him and Malone could have gotten a ring

  • unlucky to face jordan in the finals

  • John Stockton truly is Legendary.

  • El mejor Point guard de todos los tiempos

  • Excelente tributo, pera el mejor en su clase!! el mejor de todos los tiempos, como El ya no hay.

  • Noone can ever live up to Stockton, not Magic, not CP3 (especially CP3), not anyone.Magic had less assists, steals, points, and John averaged less turnovers so dont even compare Stockton to anybody. Stockton was "simply the best."

  • magic is the goat...stocks great but not magic johnson great

  • please magic was a small foward playing the point

  • yehh but he still played the point guard position...so whats your point LOL

  • my point is a dude that was 6'9 played a position that had an average of 6'2-6'3 height, and on top of that he had way more turnovers than stockton ever did.Plus he wasnt a great shooter or that much of a leader because lets face it those laker teams were led by kareem. And this isnt me downgrading magic or anything,he was a phenomenal player but no ever really gives stockton his credit when its due. When i comes to pure point guards ever he has to be either 1 or 2 behind pistol

  • ok i stopped reading when you said magic johnson wasnt much of a leader hahahaahaha....you're bluffing bud

  • Hes like LeBron, Magic was never a better passer or true PG like John was.

  • the dude played all 5 positions

  • please fix your grammar

  • nice comeback

  • Wonderful video! Stockton is one of the greatest NBA players of all time!

  • the best at making other teammates better. all-time leader in assist and steals.

  • tina turner ftw

  • What a legend!

The best of all time. No one compares at the PG position.

  • CP3 will.

  • CP3 is overrated. Even CP3 himself has said he could never live up to john stockton

No one will ever catch john

  • This video brings back such good memories. I sure do miss that pasty gangsta.

  • he's the 2nd best point guard in nba history after magic johnson! stockton 4 ever!

  • What's the name of this song?

  • It's "Simply The Best" by Tina Turner.

  • John Stockton was the definition of what Point Gaurd was supposed to be. He was the all-time assists leader, all time steals leader, and a very underrated shooter. Its too bad he never won a championship, he just happened to play in the era where Jordan got all the calls from the refs.

  • I love that man so much. Best PG ever to play the game.

  • I miss those days of Stockton and Hornaceck... The only reason Malone got his MVP trophies was because he had Stockton... John made everyone around him look good...

  • 2:03 Matt Harpring looks so HOT! haha sorry i love Matt... and John as well! He was an amazing player... Deron reminds me of him so much!

  • Stockton... the man! he is legend... 5 stars video

  • This has got to be the BEST Tribute ever to an NBA player!!!!

John Stockton is a true winner and champion, his impact and legacy goes WAY beyond any awards and championships. Thanks for the Wonderful memories!!!

    Absolutely and SIMPLY the BEST!!!!!

  • Those who say that Stockton couldn't take over a game, obviously never truly saw him play. For a guard, he had a tremendous shooting percentage, meaning he didn't take bad shots. I can't remember the number of times when it was late in the game and other players just couldn't get their shots to fall, he would take over the game. He would only do it when it was absolutely necessary. He would rather let his teammates get the glory for the shot over himself. He is "SIMPLY THE BEST!!!"

  • The Ageless Wonder,

    Now, the Timeless Wonder.

    Thanks for the Wonderful memories!

  • best PG eveeeer

  • No... Stockton was the BEST!

  • He never had that NBA ring.

But to many true nba fans, he is an over qualified champion

  • Ssimply the best pg evrrrrrrrrr!

  • stockton was one of the best outlet passers ever. he could make a wheelbarrow look like a five-time all-star. he'd find a way. he would just angle the ball so it goes of one of the edges or handles.

    wheelbarrow - 18 points

    stockton - 15 points, 14 assists, 3 steals, 4 rebounds

  • true-that was his actaul prime average too.

  • John Stockton was the best.

  • thanks, john

  • JKFrazier,

I wouldn't necessarily say that Chris Paul can take over a game with defense...but he is a great player with a lot of potential. I do agree that Isaiah was better overall though. Though Stockton is the best pure shooter of the three.

  • also stockton could score himself as well play diffense it leads the histroy in steal.

  • This is the best video i have ever seen, thank you

  • Isiah's legacy is destroyed after failing miserably as a coach and team president. He sucks and I hate him.....

    Johnny Stock #1 bitches!

  • how abaout stockton becoming a coach

  • sad day when he announced his retirement

  • We he announced retirement I cried. He was basketball to me. I missed work stayed home and watch games I had recorded on VHS. Man those were the days.

  • I know all through i school i was number 12 he was amazing to watch play not just because of his paz-az but he taught me to watch the game from the bench and realize where the other team was getting to us

  • It sucks that he and Malone are gone, because they were like the Batman and Robin of the game.

  • Undoubtedly the best! do I have to say more? I hope you can post here the video of his actual retirement.

  • Best ever PG! No Doubt about that!

  • the best PG of all time

    even with out a ring

just taking on the bull twice in a row is a feat in it self

    the ref screwed utah fans

  • WAS SUPPOSE TO WIN BOTH TO BE HONEST

  • The best pg of all time is Magic, 2.Stockton, 3rd=?, just being honest. I wish Stockton could of won a ring, he is one of my top 5 favorite players.

  • 1-Magic, 2-Isiah, 3-Stockton.

  • no you're wrong, Isiah had normal range numbers but nothing special with 2 rings. Stockton averaged a career double-double per game. He has the most assists ever, no one even comes close, and the record for most steals in history, had 5 out of 6 of the best assists per gm seasons in NBA history and 3rd in most games played by all players.

  • Isiah Thomas: averaged over 20 ppg for 5-6 seasons & playoffs while averaging 10 or more assits per game plus the Pistons did not have Great Scorers (such as Malone or Dantley), just defenders and roll players. He made them better.

    Regular Season Stats (Play-offs):

    Isiah

    PPG: 19.2(20.4)

    APG: 9.2(8.9)

    SPG: 1.9(2.19)

    FG%: 44.1% (45.2%)

    3-POINT FG%: 29% (34.6%)

  • Okay but Stockton career was better, just look at his records.

  • Isiah shot the ball way more than Stockton. Really, there is no comparison. Stocktn owned Isiah as a point gaurd, ask Isiah!

  • Isiah could score, assits and steal. Stockton was great fundamentalist but he had no one on one game, could not score while at the same assits or defend. Isiah is more complete, more versetaile and more determinant in a teams success. Isiah better player by a small margin but better indeed

  • Stockton scored over 15,ooo points, so where does this "he can't score" come into play? Also, Stockton was a true point gaurd, he wasn't ashoot first pass second guy like you see now even with Isiah. Stockton was the best point gaurd ever, one on one or in team ball....Isiah was overrated.

  • Stockton was a great PG I am not saying that he wasn`t but he was not as versetaile as Thomas. Zeke could kill you in a one on one, in assits and in steales all at the same time. Stockton could kill you in 2 things ate the same time: assits and steals but not 3 or 4 like Zeke. Stockton Third Best PG after Magic and Isiah

    Isiah Thomas Season/Play-Offs Stats:

    MPG: 36.9/38

    PPG: 19.2/20.4

    FG: 45.2%

    APG: 9.3/8.9

    SPG: 1.9/2.1

    RPG: 3.6/4.7

    3-Point FG%: 34.6%

  • Isiah was an impact point guard. He could take over the game through scoring, defense or passing.

Very similar to how Chris Paul plays right now.

Stockton could not impact a game like that. Still one of the best PG ever.

  • stock lead the league in steals. he can score but he didn't have he always had someone who can do that. as a 6'1 point gaurd his percentage is over 51% throught his career

  • Isiah HAD to Shoot the ball more because the Pistons where composed of Defensive-Hustle Playeres. They did not have a fast breaking Karl Malone or a Good Scorer for them so Isiah had to BOTH assist, shoot and DRIVE on to the basket.

    1-MAGIC/BIG O

    2-ISIAH

    3-STOCKTON

  • good point. can agree with that statement

  • pimpmaster, please rise above saying players are better because they won rings, that has nothing to do with who is a better player or not. Utah choked because Malone allowed bums like Rodman, Brian Williams, and Grant outplay him whereas Stockton always played exellent against whoever he played. Rings mean nothing as far as skill is concerned. Heck, Chuck Nevitt has like 5 rings and he lived at the end of the bench...

  • Isiah better than Stockton? You must be a football or baseball, or hockey fan because you know nothing about basketball. 1st in steals, 1st in assists, over 15k points, untouchable!

  • Taking on the Bulls was not enough, they should have won. Malone disappeared and the Bulls got nearly every call, even at the Delta center did the bulls get calls. The league wanted the Bulls to win those games.

  • Easy question tina turner

  • two GReat players

  • Malone was his rite hand!

  • the best point guard. JOHN STOCKTON!

  • agreed!

  • There's a reason the devout Sacramento Kings fans gave him a round of applause in his last game there.

Hated Stockton, but it's a respect hate (Rockets fan). as an oldschool Rockets fan, there's no guy I wanted to take the shot LESS than John because you knew he was always gonna get it.

Without Stockton there is no Karl Malone. Much respect.

  • There was no finer PG in the NBA and there will be none. Stockton, to Malone. Legend and true gentleman.

  • It's one of the best player of the NBA history!

  • the pasty gangster!!!!

  • Who mades this song????

  • tina turner

  • Nash is good but #12 Stockton is better.

    Stockton is just awesome!!!

  • hi, do u have a video of John Stockton when he annunces his retirement?

  • He didn't announce it in a press conference or anything, in typical Stockton style it was a press release in the offseason.

  • he did on the jazz locker room to the media, i've seen pictures on the web, and hear it too, but i would like too see a video of it.

  • Stockton would "thread the needle"! If you play ball you know what that is. Stock did it. He saw the pass and the set-up...its not complicated, its just most teams these days can't even come close.

  • Stockton was also one tough little S.O.B. He'd go down in the paint on a regular basis and set picks against power forwards and centers and get knocked around pretty good.

  • this is how you play the point guard position!

  • John Stockton is the all time best point guard. Steve Nash and Jason Kidd can't even compare to him.

  • Steve Nash is pretty good hes way better than Jason Kidd I think, but compared to John Stockton you cant even compare

  • greatest at the point ever and no one will ever come close to j.s

  • Nash has led the league in assists three times in a row and is leading again this year so he is garbage? Stop with the Nash hatred.

  • Stockton is pretty sick, but Nash is absolute garbage - Jason Kidd at his best is better (if we're talking about current point guards).

  • thats what louis did after revenge of the nerds??

  • Its only natural that JS is better than nash

12 comes first than 13 right?

  • my favorite player of all time!!!

  • Had he had a better supporting cast, there's no doubt he would've had three championships.

  • amen!

  • Yeah, I'd like to know too. I'd bet that he could for sure, 100%. He's 6ft, I'm 5'9 and could dunk one-handed with part-time training, he's a full-time athlete. So yeah, I'd bet he could.

  • can stockton dunk? just curious'

  • Yeah... Every player in the NBA should be able to dunk just from playing basketball all there lives. Most people I play random games at the gym can dunk so I suppose Stockton could if he had so wanted.

  • no your wrong buddy

  • No actually, that's really good reasoning. I was able to dunk after just cutting weight and trying lots and lots and lots. I'm 5'9 and I got fit and could dunk one-handed. Guys that play ball full-time must be able, I mean they'RE ALWAYS WORKING OUT!

  • just cause you play ball all day everyday, doesn't mean you can dunk, look at nash.

  • I saw an interview with Mark Eaton quite a few years ago, and the guy asked him if John could dunk. Mark said he'd seen him do it a few times but he had to get up "quite a head of steam first". If anyone doesn't get that, it means had to get a good running start to do it.

John Stockton is 6'1", he just looked small next to the towering 6'11" Karl Malone and the 7'4" Mark Eaton.

  • I saw an interview with former Jazz player Mark Eaton, and the guy asked him if John could dunk. Mark said he'd seen him a few times, but that he had to "get up quite a head of steam first".=P

If anyone doesn't know what that means, it means he had to get a running start at the basket.

JS is 6'1". He just looked small next to the 6'10" Karl Malone, and the 7'4" Mark Eaton.

  • 6''9 karl malone lol i am fixing ur mistake u made 1 year ago

  • AWESOME, just awesome. Such an amazing player.

  • Stockton is overall the best player in NBA of all time! I don't care about the dunking machines. Stockton was the brain behind it all.

  • Don't you ever compare Steve Nash to John Stockton! All-time leader in BOTH assists and steals! Nash got no fucking defense! Stockton was way overrated...if he played today when he was at the peak of his skills, Nash would'nt be the MVP. Stockton would've.

  • didn't u mean underrated. la tenorio is better than stockton.lol

  • this video is amazing

  • Nash is good but #12 Stockton is better.

    Stockton is just awesome!!!

  • Why does every Stockton clip on youtube have such rediculous music. Tina Turner?!! ARe you fu**ing kidding me??

  • John also had better D then Nash. My personal top 3 PG's list would be Magic, Stockton, Kidd. Would include Oscar, but never saw him play. Was sadly beyond my time. :(

  • All you have to do is look who he had to play against. There is no more Magic, Isiah, Jordan, Akeem, Bird, Barkley, etc. He was just great against the best competion ever.

  • Theory Evolution

    Stockton ---> Nash

    Malone ---> Stoudamire

  • The only difference is Nash was a headless chicken in the court running around making crazy plays at will; Stockton had more court smarts and premeditated his plays. He is the master of finding the wide open man and threading the defense. He never had to be fancy to rip apart the opposition.

  • #12 my favorite number

    for sure a 90's all-star

    cool video
