  • So much better than Scotty Kilmer... he just fucking annoys me.

  • I have a mystery noise coming from my front drivers wheel ever since hitting a huge puddle at about 35-40mph. I am not sure what it may be, but I have a video of it in my channel - if anyone can check it out and maybe give an opinion?

  • "yeah that shouldn't happen..." LOL

  • Thank you . i have been looking for this fix for a while!

I have spent many sleep less nights guessing wr the noise is coming from.

  • what if you drive wit a cricked rim

  • great videos, Keep up the great work.

  • wow that rim is scuffed

  • hey i have a 1999 blazer and it squeeks when i hit a little bump and some times when i turn the wheel(same sound)and in drive threws you can hear it good and loud...its driver side front

  • @SubieRue

I have the same issue on my 97 blazer. Sounds like it comes from the left front. Squeeking -creeking. Didn't hear it much during the winter but with tempurature change it comes back. It's very annoying and embarssing!

  • @achillies0 yeah thats exactly what it is you can hear it from like a 1/2 miles away its really annoying

  • @achillies0 did you evr find out what it was mine is still squeaking

  • motor mount, gets me every time.

  • Car guy! I need you BAD! I'm 25 years old, 38-24-36, I enjoy not being constantly nauseous over Honda denying any problem so as not to perform warranty work, though it's been a while... maybe you can get me back to that lovin' feeling. (HOW THE FUCK DO I GET THEM TO FIX MY CAR!? *ahem* 200 mi left... 2010 civic, purchased 5-2010)

  • I have a weird noise in the front driver side, I think it is a suspension noise becuase every time I drive over a bumpy road and the tires start to bounce either softly or hard the sound comes alive and it is somewhat like a metal hitting metal noise. My dear friendas at the dealer can't seem to find it and keep telling me every component is fine! Hate it

  • I drive a '93 Accord with coilovers and almost every new suspension component that requires rubber. New OEM LBJ, new SPC ball joint camber kit, new sway bar end links. I hear this very mild knock when I hit the tiny bumps (pebble sized). It's coming from the passenger side, and I remember some grease leaked out of the the new OEM LBJ on that side. Any ideas what it may be?

  • That's the hammer of Thor

  • Eric you Love Honda right? I do. Anyway, I have a rear suspension noise in my 2004 Acura TSX No matter what road conditions are, its there when i accelerate and turn L and R. Its like a crack, pop clinking sound. I heard about bad spot welds in the trunk where the rear deck and frame connects or bad end links in the suspension and my step dad took it to a Honda dealer and they said it was the shock absorber but i dont believe it. It in the left rear wheel suspension area. Anyidea?

  • @Dillon1791 endlikns, bushings, ect...

  • ERIC IS THE BEST, THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO, I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A WHILE FOR THIS VIDEO.. I NEW THE PROBLEM SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THIS VIDEO (MOTOR MOUNT). I HAVE A PROBLEM AFTER GETTING A ALIGNMENT, I ADJUSTED MY RACK BOLT ON THE RACK ASSEMBLY, AND AFTER THAT MY CAR STEERING GOT CROOKED, IVE ALWAYS ADJUSTED THE BOLT, BUT NEVER HAD A CROOKED STEERING. I EXPERIENCE WOBBLE AT TIMES THEN IT WOULD STOP, MY STEERING FEELS TIGHT LIKE BRAND NEW, THEN LOOSENS UP FEELS LIKE SHIT. FEELS LOOSE THENTIGHT

  • Another nice video-like how you take us on the diagnostic journey w/ you.

  • poor car has an orange can of death

  • this guy knows his shit.

  • excellent knowledge... thanks :)

  • Who you calling KIDS, SON!

  • why doesnt every car now days come with vtech?

  • @Rustyrunaway

Because there is no such thing as vtech, only VTEC.

    Vtech is a phone company..

  • @lilletizz

    whoops!

but still the question still stands...

  • @Rustyrunaway

Well for starters the VTEC system is owned by Honda. Other than that I guess it's just cheaper to install an engine without VTEC, since a 1.4l economic family-car doesn't really need variable valves for dropping the kids of to school =P

  • vtec!!! :)

  • wer're going to try something quick as i pull out here" lol " THAT'S GETTING ON IT HARD LMAO SUCH A DIRTY JOKE RIGHT THERE LOL 3:20-3:30

  • Have you ever use AT-205 for the rubber in the suspension? I saw a video (scotty kilmer) on how he just sprays it on the bushings, tire rods etc and the creaks goes away.

  • @3:28 LOL ACURA POWA.

  • Here's one for ya! landlords wife drives into a ditch on the side of the driveway, was early morning winter, pulled her out with tractor, steering had stopped working/ very hard to turn, bent? broke? ,. pulled into shop next day. belt, nope. pump, rack, nope. lower suspension, nope.. took a while,. was ice in steering pump/rack or line and also in strut bearings had frozen! haha. flushed power steering and got some water out, yep that's it!!! now to get to the bearings! :0), btw. cool vids

  • that acceleration part just made me wanna buy this car more! XD

  • how do you check the strut mounts?

  • Comment removed

  • I knew it had a bad motor mount when you did the hard take off and it clunked going into 2nd. good tips though handy to know.

  • hi there: can this clunk be caused by worn strut mounts at the top of the shocks (the part I assumed you were going to check when you pried the plastic covers open and found the problem)? Many Thanks.

  • HI ERIC!!, over the past few months i have been working for a Chrysler dealership just kinda workin at the bottom, oil changes and tires, and im also going to school, watching your videos has been a great help, learning how to properly diagnose issues and doing our oil changes we have to do inspections of everything and this video has been a great help, by being able to notice things and call bad parts ive earned alot of respect working there, id just like to say thanks, you've been a big help!.

  • i would like to add heat shields to the list of things that can cause noises

  • erik knows his s***!

  • THIS VIDEO IS GREAT!

  • My 06 PT Cruiser AC gets hot after 4 minutes of running while sitting still! Any suggestions?

  • great video. this stuff definatly applies to most vehicles. yeah i know sometimes people have some strange things in the trunk, glove box or center console and they don't clue into the fact that their stuff may be causing the noise, especially when its in the area the complain the noise is coming from. i remeber one i did, the lady was complaining of a rattling from right dash area over bumps, the glove box was full of her "toys" she got very redfaced. but the noise went away.

  • My sister's civic has the EXACT same noise. Ive suspected the motor mount the whole time, now she has no way to tell me its not! lol

  • you mentioned if there's a noise when going from reverse to drive. my car is rwd automatic and i hear a clunk from park to drive, or from reverse to drive. and it clunks when i brake or hit bumps sometimes. any ideas?

  • @AllThingsAviation sound is from the rear btw

  • Damn bro where did you learned your mechanical skills. As far as theory i know a lot but for some reason i worked with real messed up cats that don't really like to teach the younger guys and it's been really hard to learn the mechanical aspect of cars DAMN.

  • I have a Saturn ion 03 and ever since I got new tires in the back it started shaking when I drive around 55mph. It also makes the same noise as the car n the video if I drive it in bumpy roads. I took it to a mechanic but they don't know what's wrong with it, do you have an idea as to what could be wrong? Thanks

  • @serena79ify A vibration at 55 is tire balance most likely and since you just got tires I would have that checked.

  • @serena79ify has the car got aftermarket wheels or "mags"/"rims" if the people that fitted the tires did not replace the locator rings they could not be centralized, or the tires they fitted are faulty, ot ar eric has stated, the tires may not be balanced correctly

  • @serena79ify as dumb as this may sound check your tire for a bubble

  • @serena79ify Check your wheels to see if their are tape weights on the inside of the wheel, often times when balancing the tire the tape weight will fall off the wheel when its taken off and the tech wont notice, but if its in the rear you wheels must be way out of balance in order for them to vibrate that much.

  • Hello I enjoy your videos but I was wondering why you don't have a hoist in your shop?

  • @jankeautotech If you'd like to buy me one I'd love to have it. :) In all seriousness I do plan to get one in the future.

  • Safety Glasses!!:D

  • Man i really love those TLs

  • I'll add another spot that can make noise. The steering column or steering shaft. I see it alot on GM vehicles.

  • Brilliant. One of the best how-tos out there.

  • @OMGWTFuSUCKimROFLMAO Thank you!

  • Hey Eric, I bet that you like that road in front of your shop because it gives you a place to safely test a suspension

  • @13FravelJ Indeed I do. Thanks for the comment.

  • How can I change an output shaft bushing from a Chevy Venture Thanks!!!

  • @alpessade With the right tools time and patients. Good luck.

  • Hello SIr, I have a problem with the car and please tell me what you think it has. I had a clicking sound and i changed the right outer cv joint and it fixed the sound. Now i have another sound. When i turn left i have a sound in the right side like a squeaking sound like in your video at 8:54. Do you think is the stabilizer like in your video? Wheel bearings? Sway bar bushings or ends or ball joint or something? I want to eliminate the other possible causes before changing axles. Thanks

  • @psyxo69 Honestly I don't know but if you follow the steps in this video you should be able to find the noise. Noises come from all different places so it's hard for me to pass judgement especially if I haven't heard the noise. Good luck.

  • Thanks, awesome video. after watching this I tried the same thing on my car since I hear like a knocking sound from the front, more toward the right side. only happens when I am driving slow and over small bumps. When i started shaking the car i can hear the noise when shaking the right and the left sides, but when i push in the middle (right on top of the radiator) and both sides are moving at the same time there is no noise at all. I think it could be the sway bar? what do you think?

  • @ssssszszsssss Hard to say if I'm honest, your going to have to get a look up under there to find out. Good luck.

  • great vid eric

  • Eric the inside of the exhaust can go bad-

I had a BAD radial when driving my truck.(Would not do it at any speed) I had a flowmaster one of the baffles broke on the inside and would only radial at 1500Rpms....We searched and search and about never found it!!!

  • @TheGuitarslinger yea, I've run into things like that too especially with some aftermarket units that's why I recommended smacking or shaking the exhaust just for good measure. Thanks for your comments.

  • Eric you forgot to tell everyone that improper tire psi will cause tires to wear unevenly....

Low psi=Tires to wear bad on the outside of tread

To much psi =The center of tread

  • @TheGuitarslinger I actually covered that in the tire video, this was about noises not tires.

  • Eric talking on a phone and texting is a verry bad thing im pretty sure operating a camera is much better!!! lol bro just wanted to give you a hard time!

  • @TheGuitarslinger Go right ahead, every time I put a video out someone is waiting with a hatchet to chop it up.

  • @EricTheCarGuy lol...Eric your the man!

  • Respond to this video... Thats not what i was trying to do?I just want to show my smarts what little i have!

  • Hi eric, just a quick question, I have a 1995 ford explorer 4wd. It makes a harsh clunking noise and grinds when i reverse to where i have to press the gass pretty hard in order to move. Do you think this could be caused by a CV?

  • @drewkayla2 Probably not but I would be checking the drive line more at the u joints on the rear axle. I would also be checking the rear differential for an issue there, you might just pull the cover and have a look at the gears.

  • you and scotty kilmer should have a tv show, preferably aired on spike.

  • @armystrong8989 Ha, cool.

  • ETCG has a new Shop. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Damn looks nice!

  • @tehatemachine I LOVE my new shop, I'd live there if I could.

  • @EricTheCarGuy With a Bunk made from a truckbed and drive axels?

  • good job mate!

  • Thank you for this information.

I have now isolated two creeks in my car. Both ball joints.

  • @andrewthompsonuk1 I'm glad the video helped, thanks for the comment.

  • Tie rod end or ball joint?!

  • i have a 92 eldorado and i get a popping noise during every stop and take off also i cant make a sharp right turn and passenger wheel seems to be rubbing the back of wheel well when turned to the right too far when wheel is straight passenger tire seems to toe out what you think i shud do thank you

  • @reliefme I would be getting a look at those parts to see what was bent or broken causing that and replace or repair the broken or bent parts.

  • detroit lean hahahaha gangsta ;)

  • Sorry im replying through my fone but dude,

You really hit the bullseye on that my mech just rold me the same exact thing thankyou so much man!

  • @screaminmetal Cool, thanks for the comment.

  • So my car shakes violently when i brake goin 40mph+.changed the brake pads, got new tires and did the alignment as well and still violent shaking!any idea????

  • @screaminmetal The alignment and tires would have nothing to do with that, it sounds like brake rotors that are warped, you can have them machined if there's enough metal left, if not then you will need to replace them.

  • thake you it's very nice video

  • @samadam7771 I really like this one myself, thanks or the comment.

  • aha my reaction so success was "yayy" about 1 second later you had the exact reaction.. nice job, great vid as usual mate

  • @sylvaner01 I'm glad you share in my success, thanks for the comment.

  • Bent rims could be another suspect, not sure if this was mentioned. Lastly wheel bearings, I had a wheel bearing split apart...it started off as a mild scratching/squealing which I thought may have been worn pads. Shortly after it would make soft bang while turning in one direction. I finally found out it was a scattered wheel bearing. Anyhow great vid Eric, keep 'em coming!

  • @DocTaRED Thank you for your input and for your comment.

  • This video helped me locate my noise. It was the transmission side mount on the passenger side. thanks eric.

  • @LazySniper So glad to hear the video helped, thanks for the comment.

  • i love you

  • @jayguy173 I love you too.

  • Nice vids man

  • Personally i find double wish bone much easier to find problems on.

  • @ 5:32 I saw the engine move when eric was pushing on the car. I thought it was an illusion. Guess not.

  • @rlund3 Nope, good eye.

  • hey eric, is that the timing belt at 15:07? its pretty bad!. There is a sound comming from my belt area i think, what could it be? how would i tighten the tensioner myself? the shops are asking 100 to diagnose for me and then additional few hundred to replace the belts... ahh so much problems with my accord appearing.

  • @interlagos80s This engine uses an automatic hydraulic tensioner so the only way to adjust tension is to replace the effected parts. You might want to watch the video I did on Finding Noises.

  • @EricTheCarGuy would replacing my timing belt solve the problem? i would like to try it myself from your DIY videos if it will cover a 2004 honda accord v6 coupe auto, engine j30 i believe. right now, the belt area makes the car sound like a diesel engine when you start up cold. Im afraid if i dont do something soon the car will die on me! it could be the belt with that sound that it makes right??

  • You look like your trying to bring the car back to life at 5:30 :P

  • @offspringy Nurse I need 500 cc's of gasoline stat!

  • Comment removed

  • hey dude youre safety glases! =D

  • hey eric, i have seen those side mounts break because of the front mount, not sure if that car had the same issue....happy wrenching!

  • @drenalin6 I have too and I checked it, it was just fine. Thanks for the comment.

  • You sure do like Honda's and Acura's did you ever work at a Honda or Acura dealership?

  • We need to get you a helmet cam. Driving with a camera in your hand is dangerous.

  • love your videos Eric they help me alot on saving some money. My truck is making some loud noise when i go up curbs "big curbs" and you can tell its coming from the front, do you think its the shocks? is there any way i can test it?

  • Nice video. & strange it was a engine mount lol.. Do you have a wheel balencer? That could help a lot to

  • Great vid, Eric! Extremely usefull!

  • ooooo found this as his paypal donation addy on his site.

    DONATE PAYPAL here folks :)

    eric at ericthecarguy dot c o m

  • eric, send us your paypal bro, so we can help you out to find a lift. :-)

  • I also have an 2005 Acura tl with same issue will check tommorow. Thanks for the info. Subscribed :)

  • hi eric

just catching up on some of your videos excellent as usual , but just noticed in this video information about the strut rod bushs , ive been too 3 or 4 mechanics recently after jacking up my own car 10 times and no one could tell me why my car was clucking every time i brake or accelerate so ill have to check these out tommorow .

    so thanks for that

    cheers eric

  • Must be a female owned vehicle. Curb rash galore.

  • Eric, the pony tail..... what the eff bro?

  • Is it really necessary to track down all noises? I got a couple of weird ones that I'm having a real hard time tracking down but my car's handling and braking are not affected.

  • A very thorough video ETCG. I've had an old Mini top engine tie sheer the bolt (engine side). Rocking the engine showed that up. The movement caused the exhaust manifold to exhaust joint to leak & exhaust mount to break. Problems like this can cause secondary problems. The noisy clunk I had on my Peugeot 206 turned out to be the jack that sits inside the spare wheel slung under the car jumping around. There was some foam pipe insulation inside the spare wheel which had got old. Enjoyed the vid.

  • I have a 98 camaro z28 and it makes thumping noise when turning right at a curve at speeds over 20mph. I dont think its the bearings as my wheels dont move at all when tugging it at all angles. Its not the tires because I got it balanced and checked for cupped tires. Any other ideas? It's pretty specific because it only happens when on a right curve and steering wheel turned to the right.

  • what would cause a clunk noise when i brake?

  • i used to have a 91 toyota pickup and it always had a click noise going over bumps. turned out to be shock absorber bushings and they would hit the upper control arm. thought id say that. ima donate for a lift :)

  • Love the light in your new shop Eric!

  • Eric loves hondas

  • Is it going on the bumps when you turning the wheel.... ROFLMAO

  • Al agree with the donation towards the lift, I donated 20 bucks when he put that link on his new website, maybe a dollar could be peeled off for the lift.

  • Very good video man.

  • What if the spring is cracked? but not where its broken, more like horizontally on the coil

  • @Intelpentium54321 that is not good that your spring is cracked. I would get that checked out!

  • The new shop is looking sweet. Thumbs up.

  • i have a knocking or deep clicking sound on the front passenger side under the car, it is a noise that cycles, and when i hit the breaks to slow down it disappears. the sound seems to occur around speeds of 15mph and below and specially in glide speed where there no gas pedal pressure is applied. i think the knocking sound is coming from the front axle around the right tire (passenger side). WHAT COULD THE PROBLEM BE???

  • @alitap check your wheel nuts. I had the same on my VW and it came from a broken wheel nut, so that the wheel a had a little play. Was most notable when the transfered moment between axle and wheel was very low (i.e low speed gliding)

  • One of the best videos you have made. Great job, I've been a tech for almost ten years and I learnt a few things. Thats the cool thing about being an auto tech there is always something new to learn

  • "The Detroit lean." Ha!

  • Sends 50 cents. Lol : )

  • Excellent and a very helpful video, thanks! You covered this issue very thoroughly. It was also nice to see the neighborhood of your new shop when test driving. Keep up the good work!

  • When you say, "You'll see some movement" does that mean movement is bad?

  • Great detail Eric , Great detail.

  • Keep those honda's coming

  • Hey Eric great video very informative and well planned out. I have a suggestion for a video it is engine pinging. My 1996 S10 pings alot less now after Sea Foam treatment. Before this treatment my service engine light was on code p0442 small evap leak. I found my intake hose from air cleaner to throttle body was not sealed correctly so I fixed that and did the treatment. Right after that the the light is off. Why? Do you think coincidence? Thanks Ed

  • replaced the hood struts on my 89 camaro for that very reason. when i was working on it the hood wouldnt stay fully open. new hood struts did the job

  • Very helpful video, thanks!

  • i wish you could talk about the pneumatic suspensions,

  • @hjsantiago1981 I agree that Urinary Tract Infection is more of a joke school but you don't know what you're talking about. WyoTech is a GREAT school! They have the Career Services department to assist you for the rest of your life. The name is well known throughout the industry. "Nowheresville" Community College is the real waste of time & money. 'Tech will get you in and out in 12 months. AND you can get an Associate's. Our instructors are kept current on manufacturer's procedures & new tools.

  • Another good method for checking wheel bearings is too put your hand on the coil spring as you rotate the wheel. If the bearing is bad, you can feel the grinding being transmitted through the spring.

  • 03:34 i love the vtec kick in!!Thats such a nice TL.Btw excellent video!!The first diagnosis vid at the new shop!!And i gotta say, great job, this video has better viewing points than the vids in the old shop

  • ARENT YOU SUPPOSED TO PUT JACK STANDS FOR SAFETY?

  • @cristiancatani see the jackstand @ 7:30

  • eric whenever i shift from either drive or reverse, like 5 seconds after driving i hear a noise of something dropping, similar when backing out of a sloped driveway, any hints?

  • I think each person donating a dollar is a great idea. He helps all of us so much and asks for nothing in return. Why not help him out for a change? If it wasn't for Eric I would still be paying a mechanic an outrageous amount of money to work on my vehicle.. now I work on it myself! Thanks for everything Eric.

  • hope you dodn't see dead bodies?

  • i've got a noise when i hit a pothole xD but its my tire hitting my inner wheel well,

lowered cars all the way <3

  • hey eric! i love you show, i have a 2008 subaru legacy with around 30,000 miles and shortly after i got it (used with 27k miles) the belt started to squeal when id cut the wheel, and i brought it back and they "adjusted drive belts" and the noise was gone... but two weeks later, now its back!!! i tried loosening and tightening the tensioner and that didnt work, also i tried belt conditioner and that worked for like a day.. help would be so appreciated!

  • Great vid keep em up

  • are those goodridge SS brake lines?

  • @EricTheCarGuy when u took the car out on the road i was like WHOOOOAAA! YOU CRAZY!! but then i remembered your in america and you drive on the WRONG side of the road LOL. anyway another great video man, thanks

  • The vice grips in the hood support rod, great idea and use it myself BUT, remove it. I've seen a hood buckled almost in half by someone who didn't know it was there.

  • Thumbs up if you think modern Honda's are junk!

  • I have question! I recently bought a 93 corolla XLI. I noticed when I drive over bumps or holes the back end looses traction or is thrown to the side. I new to FWD cars so i´m no sure if that´s normal. Could it be the dampers or loose wheel? I can be driving +60mph and the car goes perfectly straight.
