Another reason is some emulators allow for cheats, which allow you to "explore other parts" of the game (like in the video).

Actually, you wouldn't have to cheat for that. To get the Adult's and Giant's wallet, you have to talk to 2 of the sons in the House of Skulltula after collecting enough tokens to break their curses. It's not a manditory thing, and one could choose not to talk to them.
