• still a great live version

  • I always liked that outro MUCH more than what they went with in the end. The studio transition kind of jars...but I reckon that was the intent.

  • wanted to go to this gig so bad, looks fuckin amazin!

  • Live is so much better..

  • wow nice seats

  • best song on in rainbows, best of a great bunch, superb stuff!!

  • I love the way he sings "weird fishes" here.

  • I agree as well but can you imagine what a bitch it must have been laying that song down in a recording.

  • I know, I agree with you, Mr Slithering. There are a few songs on the record where they seem to willfully sabotage the emotional power of a song. Perhaps, in their view, to save it from a kind of generic, immediate, radio catchiness. I'm disappointed, for instance, with the funal version of Nude. I've heard versions, ten years older, that were far more affecting.

  • Why Radiohead didn't record Phil's drums in the robust, powerful way they sound on this live version, I'll never know. And why they added the extra section immediately after "weird fishes" on the LP, when the old transition her use to be so much more powerful? I'll never understand. They took a song with A+ potential in the studio, sapped it of it's urgency, and came out with a B recording...frustrating :(

  • You're so right.

  • This band has such great energy

  • Postminimal, I couldn't help but notice despite your criticism that your YouTube website is a Radioehead shrine. Good prank bud.

p.s.- and yes, you're right... "In Limbo" and "Fasttrack" are very "soccermom" and "yuppie" lol. Good one.

  • rocks!!!

  • such a good song, though i wish they'd kept the name to just arpeggi. weird fishes/arpeggi doesnt sound as good

  • 'spose you could call it either one though?

  • i love that drumming

  • AMAZING, can't wait til IN RAINBOWS!!!!

    free!!!!!!

  • Thumbs down because of the Free!! part.

Last night I downloaded the songs from their site and paid US$6... Great that MOST of that money goes directly to them and not to the the record company, as it happens with CDs.

  • At 1:10 Jonny's guitar is so amazing.

It looks like he is posing for the camera.

  • The drums really do it.

  • also radiohead songs change all the time, so you've no idea what version will be on the album. I think Johnny would not have wasted his days of work writing out the scores that the orchestra used. Like spinning plates went through many stages, and it is always played live using a piano not a synthesiser like on the record.

  • like spinning plates is 'i will' played on the piano backwards and then reversed i believe

  • It's not a synth on the album :P:P:P It's a backward clicking sound

  • wow you intrigue me as to how you know?

  • I believe you could check that out yourself by simply reversing LSP and listening to the result. :)

  • actually Iplayajazzmaster is only half right...there's no reversed piano in the recorded version.. those are all reversed synths.

you can hear it for yourself, just search for "like spinning plates reversed" here on youtube.

  • How was it done?

  • It could have quite easily have changed, radiohead change their lyrics all the time, theres only a small handful of radiohead songs where every lyric points to the same meaning, optimistic is one I think. It could have started off we're fishes and changed, who knows, they both sound so similar, and radiohead make songs mainly for the sound, not the lyrics.

well thats my opinion anyway if you wanted it or not.

  • calm down retard christ so we were wrong get over it

  • Can't Wait for the 10th!!!!!!! I was lucky enough to see them 3times during their last tour and ever since i've been anticipating this day!!!!

  • album's available for download on october 10th. check radiohead's website

  • aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i cant wait for the album<3

  • much passion!!! i love it, tto pretty

  • oh man! OH MAN! thats AWESOME!

  • will this version be on the next album ? or the first one ?

  • this one

  • its one of their best songs!

  • Great music!

  • This is by far my favorite of the new tracks. And from what I've heard of the recorded studio snippet they put on the website, this will be my new favorite radiohead track.

  • Nah you didnt xD. but i get the jist of it man =)

  • Comalilies, I think it's close...the Ether Version is intended to bring to the forefront just how disparate the melodies are in the piece, doubling their beauty. Yet, Phil's drumming in this version makes the song so propulsive, as to appreciate the "weird fishes" break more, and makes the outro fucking explosive. So close.

  • I agree that this song sounds better with orcastra nd no drums

but its sounds great this way as well

  • I like both versions about equally, I'm glad this is the one on the album though

  • no what the fuck? this version is so much better....what the fuck?! Besides, this is the version that they are putting on the album anyway.

  • y'all are with me abouth this song being a million times better with the orchestra and no drums right?

  • i like both versions, but i prefer it with the drums and guitars more.

  • ok, did i make sense there? don't think so... i'm kind of tired right now.

try again... i like both versions, but i prefer the one with the drums and guitars.

  • What's with this new rumor on all the Spin and NME sites that on the song "4 Minute Warning" studio version is going to feature guest vocals by American country-bluegrass star Gillian Welch?...must be coming out of New York's media market since the album is being mastered there?

p.s.- to be honest i didn't know much about her but the rumor made me listen to some of her stuff...in retrospect, I can hear how it's really an appalachian hymnal structure i.e. Allison Kraus' "Scarlet Tide.

  • yeah, they're all wrong, even AtEase and greenplastic.

    it's definitely "weird fishes".

you can make a thread on the message board either at AtEase or greenplastic and ask, if you really need some sort of proof, heh. prepare to be yelled at and called a n00b though

  • it's 'little fishes'. he doesn't pronounce vowels. and i hope very much, that they don't record this song with this drum beat, or any drums at all for that matter.

  • Look on any Arpeggi lyric site and it says We're Fishies. How can all of them be wrong

  • "everybody leaves

    if they get the chance

    and this is my chance

    eaten by worms" - i'm fishies :-(

  • You should check out the Frames album "Burn The Maps" for a Radiohead/Coldplay/Doves-esque sound.

This is such a beautiful song. Thanks for filming and posting!

  • i like very much how jonny moves his head when he's playing concentrated.

  • i'm high right now.. and this is so fucking amazing.

  • we fishies

  • fuck! Thom sings - we're fishies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no :p

    weird fishes

the lyric was scrolling across one of scrapbook pages on the official site (i don't know if it's still there). except it was misspelled (how very Thom Yorke)..."wierd fishees", if i remember correctly.

  • ... Just look at Green Plastic for the lyrics, it says We're fishies.

  • Green Plastic has been wrong about different things many a time.

    it's "weird fishes", trust me...or don't. i don't care either way.

  • Just think about it. from the other versuses in the song. Dont you reckon we're fishes makes more sense

  • it's "WEIRD FISHES" believe it or not. this is getting ridiculous.

  • just a side note, i'm not being a stubborn asshat for no reason, i'm always open to discussion, but here there's nothing to discuss. i don't just think it's "weird fishes", i KNOW it's "weird fishes". ok i'm done.

  • no you're wrong it's "we're fishes"

  • 'weird fishes' is what appears on radiohead . com and it's clearly exactly what he sings.

  • weird fishes. fact! lol

  • who me...no nothing =)

  • its with fishies

  • pretty sure it's "weird fishies"

  • Ed's vocals make this song perfect for me, but i'm sure it'll be Thom on the album...I think it would be cool if Ed did it tho. rambling=)Radiohead<3

  • we fishies

  • A little Coldplayish..........

  • lol u dont know shit about music do u

  • radiohead invented coldplay. lol. so its allowed.

  • i agree with you, almost bands like muse, travis, doves and many others get influenced by them.

  • I AGREE TOO!

  • wicked to the ends of the earth!!! x

  • everything about this is great. except for eds backing vocals are a little flat. he has a great voice but somtimes he just doesnt sing in tune with thom...

  • Hmm, sounds perfectly fine to me.

  • It's always a cool thing to watch Jonny bug out on the guitar.

  • reminds me of some old pink floyd stuff and avand garde classical music

  • probably The Best song of the new album....

  • really good song

  • I love this song.

  • exelente

  • This song sounds so beautiful - the twin guitars are like harps, eds backing works nicely, thoms voice is, as ususal, great, it has wonderful momentum, and it just has the soul, and pathos you expect from a good radiohead song. Its very urgent and open. Lovely.

For something just as raw and wonderful, look up the clip of Thom on the 'Henry Rollins show' performing an acoustic version of 'clock' - its better than the album version, and a real stand out!!

  • aww man the anticipation for the new album is killing me!

  • this song too good

  • Wow..just wow

  • You have had a bloody good view there!! well done!

    I was there as well!!

me and my missus loved it!!

  • They come over to my house everyday.

  • And EVERYONE needs to check out Ether Festival 2005 Arpeggi. Its even better than this version. I'm afraid the studio versions won't be good as these live ones, so afraid. Radiohead are so good live.

  • This is a very elaborate song. Reminds me of Let Down, but faster. Phil Specter, thick, convoluted music. A wall of sound. I also think Down Is The New Up is one of the best Radiohead songs I've ever heard, and I KNOW Radiohead. Spooks and 15 Step are dope too. This albums gonna kick ass. Now all we need is Radiohead to fuckin give a release date atleast. The buggers have been denying us far too long now.

  • you don't know radiohead....

  • I agree.

  • Quite superb...

  • jezus tittyfricking christ, i'd rather take a dump on my own vomit

  • phils bits during the "we're fishes" part is amazing. really helps emphasize the delicate breakdown... sounds like glass mosaic.

  • first!

  • the best song of all time?

  • maybe...

  • Can't hope more that they make this a single, this song alone on an album that is shaping up to top Kid A and OK Computer should give them the mainstream success they deserve, even though they don't want it I just wish I could hear stuff like this everytime I put the radio on than listen to half the shit thats out at the moment, don't make us wait longer!!!

  • This song is what makes me so excited about the new album...it isn't jus one of their best new songs.. its one of their best songs.

  • that's one of the best.

  • better with every listen

  • The great thing is, their music makes you FEEL as well as listen...it's a rush.

  • i couldn't agree more man.

  • soothsayer

  • OH. MY. GOD.

    OH.

    MY.

    GOD.

    this video is incredible.

  • i wish i could do that...

  • 02:51' is great!!!

  • the song is incredible.

  • I think that what turns radiohead in such a brilliant band is the fact that they can get much deeper that anyone else doing music nowadays... simply beautiful.

  • I can't love to see all the comments and just nod in agreement...RADIOHEAD is the BEST band out there NO DISCUSSION (who competes? Yeah Strokes are fun but not nearly as complex or varied)

  • They are so good, they make other bands just look stupid..!

  • I fully agree

  • doesn't make sense...fuck they're brilliant.

  • this isnt chil out, this has killer drums, and hevy emotional punch, not chill out, was at hammersmith gig, took the roof off with this trk!!

  • looking forward to new album 2007

  • thoms voice is more clear in this version i like it

  • lol i was there

    was fuckng amazing

  • My sister was at this gig (or the other date at Wolves as they did too)! Lucky!

  • wooooow. that is fucking awesome dude. were you this close?

  • nice move at the end there thom hahahha

  • god if they only could come to southamerica

  • shit, phil always adds a perfect beat.

  • i love the end to this song its so anticlimactic

    thanx for the vid!

  • i thing this next album will be like a chill one...great album, but nothing like hail to the thief... they look more chill

  • stuff like Bangers, Open Pick and Bodysnatchers is not that chill- we really don't know exactly what direction the new record will be and that's one reason why they are a great band

  • no, what i meant wasent chill as in the formal way...but in the ideas...compared with hail to the thief where there was a lot of political stuff, the new song sounds more like...music for the music...its like a fresh restart...lets hope

  • Except Down is the New Up. Hahahaha. Good song, but sooo political...

This album's going to be fantastic.

  • good quallity for a home video

  • Excelente! O melhor Grupo do mundo!

  • A fantastic link between ok computer and kid a. Awesome

  • this is brand new baby, for the new album in 2007

  • this song is one of the new best the other i like is videotape and 15 step

  • de las nuevas la mejor?posiblemente!!!!

    y tienen buenas, muy buenas

  • What a incredible fuckin' song!!! Radiohead Rules!!

  • de puta madre, si señor

  • Good clip. This song is great.

  • Thanks for the comment, I have a bunch of other videos I haven't gotten around to posting so keep an eye out....This video is amazing though, you must have been really close.

  • We're fishes, we're fishes.

    Thom, you are the sea.

    Amazing song!!

  • Not a bad song. I really don't understand why it's one of the most popular of the new songs though. I find it a bit dull. Good, but not as exciting as some of the other new songs.

  • Never though I would like the full band version as much as the original but OMG! I could hardly see a thing all night at Wolves so thank you for this....The footage is great. Not surprised its jumpy with people knocking around everywhere!!!!

  • great video quality (a little jumpy, but who's complaining?)... sound's not as good as the copenhagen video; still awsome though.
