  • up until recently GM vehicles like chevy were fucking quality shit! my 93 blazer and 98 monte carlo are in great shape still and every thing works and is soild, on recently the interior quality has gone down yes, but thats because of $ reasons, but the 2.5, and their stright 6 were great engines

  • there should be no debate unless your uneducated do the math cobaltt ss will beat any stock civic si and even modded without blower or turbo. i do not like 6 speed transmission either to much switching i only shift one gear to 60mph the civic is probably 2 gear shifts like most 6 speeds. hondas need 6 gears so they can stay in vtec lol.

  • @COBALTSSCALI yes, but on the other hand, it provides enormous deference in gas consumption because you can daily drive SI with a very good gas millage unless you hit vtec too often. Don't forget, both are street cars and both are supposed to be daily driven, so what ever works for you sir. As for me, I prefer SI just because I trust honda more on quality and don't want to bother with gas.

  • @LAVASTICK gas actually isnt as bad as youd think. If I drive like a sane person in my sssc i get an average of 28to 29 with about equal city and hwy. The power train is very good on the cobalt its just lacking in the interior cosmetic department. Thats typical GM though they always skimp on the interior.

  • 20 bucks says that the Cobalt "SS" was not the Supercharged or Turbocharged edition. There was a Cobalt SS that came with the 2.4L LE5 VVT ecotec, which only put down 171HP. It was widely considered to be a mistake for GM to call this particular Cobalt a "SS" as it caused widespread confusion. GM later renamed the LE5 model of the SS to "Sport" for the 2008 MY. The N/A (LE5) SS has a different body kit than the SS/SC or SS/TC.

  • Cause cobalt comes stock with it, common sense. Put a turbo or supercharger on an si and it will leave you in despair. Same with an evo, these cars are overrated. Without the supercharger on a cobalt it be like 180hp

  • @turbojellyfish actually without the blower it would be a great deal less. the parasitic loss from the blower is more than the difference between 205 down to 180. also the si has vtec so its not a straight comparison. the si isnt a bad car and it handles amazingly it just needs torque.

  • yeah right now stock it has 132HP but a chip for the turbo pushin round 18 19 psi and new intake and exhaust i think i can get bout 230 out of it... i plan on either boring the engine that is in it now or maybe getting and engine out of a Honda prelude and fitting in there then sup up the Honda engine

In about 3-4 years I should have a pretty good income, and I've always dreamed about droppin a 302 or a 351W into my ranger, and beefin up the suspension. that'd be fun as hell.   • Si uses a 6spd w/ close ratios to make up for it's lack of low end torque. It works well. Drive the car under 4k RPM and it's a very civilized, gas-sipping daily drive. Drive the car between 6-8k RPM and it's fun, quick, and sounds awesome (even if it's not the fastest car for the money). The 6spd is a lot of fun, if you're into "driving"

    You all need to realize that while it may be cool, its no longer special. Almost every company now a days has a i4 car with VVT. Sure it's not called VTEC, but its the same fucking thing.

  • do physics apply to you? the more you have to shift, the more down time you have! look at older civic Si's! some of their 0-60 times are in the high 6's cause they couldnt even make it to 60 in 2nd gear...cause they have a 6 speed.

    think of it this way, what do drag cars use? 3 speeds. end game. the less gears you have, the more rpms you have per gear and the faster you can go in a gear.

    oh and gear ratio depends upon the sizes of the gears you have, not wether the car is 5 or 6 speed.

    and im saying the same thing. speeds dont effect gear ratio, BUT if you had a 5 speed and a 6 speed with the same gearing ratio, the 5 would win. just because a car has a 6 speed, doesnt mean it has a shorter or longer gearing

I do like Chevy and their vehicles what I don't like is that something always goes wrong. It's either the speedometer,the windows,door handles or something else.   • If anything, the Civic is Phelps compared to the Cobalt, because the Civic has received dozens and dozens of awards for being a great car, and plus dozens of 1st place finishes in racing over the past 30 years it's been around. Much more heritage and prestige than a 1st gen cobalt lol. Plus the SS engine isn't anything without that turbo. The K20Z3 is a gem of an engine, afterall, Honda is an engine company. You don't need turbos when you make the planets best 4-cylinders.

  • No, actually, not any motor company can build an engine like the K20Z3. That would require many patents that are held only by Honda Motor Company. You see, Honda isn't just a car company, they're en engine company, they know more about building engines than any other company in the world. They're the biggest motorcycle company in the world, then they have an engine for anything else you can imagine riding on, and that you can't ride on. Add it all up and they're by far the biggest engine company

  • Yes it's a high revving engine, but I wouldn't call it torqueless, in fact, the i-VTEC engines have extremely flat torque curves. With only one camshaft lobe, peak torque is only reached in one place. But with two, (VTEC), the torque curve in flattened out, all the way to 7000 rpm I believe on this engine. Honda engines are so good that Lotus Elise owners are doing Honda engine swaps. The Honda K20 is also found in the Ariel Atom, they did away with the Chevy engine.

  • Because you are simply ignorant to quality, the cobalt feels like a cheap tin can compared to the civic, the steering is garbage, it handles like trash, the gearbox is notchy and cheap feeling, the reliability of the ss's is horrible. The only reason to buy the cobalt is the price.

  • The si is a much better car than the cheap cobalt, sorry but it is. It is much better engineered, has a much better and not so cheap interior. I have no problem with people liking their cobalts, but to regard them as better than an si is simply false. Because the #1 complaint in any automotive review about the cobalt is the fact that it is a cobalt......(cheap interior, harsh road noise,notchy tranny...etc.)

  • A race is a race but I mean come on..I love both cars a lot but the SS def should have one. That car is rated to do 0-60 in 6 seconds and the Si is 7.5. The SS is a full second and a half faster to 60 and I believe another 2 seconds to 100. That SS driver must be pretty shitty

  • listen to the cobalt clutch slippin at the start thats why he lost. my friends got a cobalt SS s/c and his clutch won't catch either.

  • Why do you say the Cobalt would have won if the clutch hadn't slipped at the start? The Cobalt smoked the Si off the line. It was in the last 40% of the run that the Si came from behind and edged by at the end for a 0.122sec lead and 0.1mph faster. I've never driven a new Si but it would seem to me that if the Si had launched better he would have humiliated the SS.

  • theres no proof that one has run 14.1....dont watch you tube videos and assume its true....the best ive seen one run is 14.6 (with intake and cat-back) and the worst i have seen is 15.7 (stock)

  • I has to be a SS/SC noway an regular ss or even LS can run 14.8, they cant even run 15.8...... SI FTW

  • HA HA HA, I find it funny how many people think that all the SS Cobalts between 2005-2007 were supercharged! There was an SS model with a HO 2.4 liter motor with 175hp which would put them on par with an Si Civic. Do some research not all Cobalts are BEWSTED!

  • They did come supercharged though...A cobalt ss with no s/c is not on par with an si...My friend hit a 14.4 at the track with nothing but a mugen cat back exhaust which gives you NO POWER...just a fancy exhaust of hondas mugen si
