  • Altamont was NOT Woodstock West. It was intended a free Stones-gig at the end of their very expensive, much critisized '69 tour, that had rather resemblance to their Hyde Park gig that year. As they missed out on the real Woodstock (Jagger was a dickhead about perf there), they wanted something Woodstockish: they knew there was a Woodstock-movie on the way. That came to be Gimme Shelter. Infamous movie about an infamous event.

Altamont was a Stones gig with a few bands as opening acts.

  • What a cluster f*ck it was, wine and reds and Hells Angels.Jagger was such a punk! The Stones were lucky to get out alive!

  • I wish the photo was clearer @about 2:10

  • Obma ad before the stones epic fail!

  • you mean 1969 billowens

  • Haha the naked dude

  • @bongnbud

Your spelling of Travesty is a travesty.

  • Maybe I missed something, but the title of this video says "Rolling Stones and the Hells Angels at Altamont," and there isn't anything about or including the Rolling Stones. Maybe, like saying the event happened in 1968, this was posted by someone who is literacy challenged. For the unaware, the song is "White Rabbit" by the Jefferson Airplane, and may or may not be from their performance at Altamont.

  • Get the year right, it's well documented that it was the event that brought the sixties to a dark close and was in December 1969. Why put 1968, it's a bit like saying the Battle of Hastings was in 1065. Altamont like the Manson killings are two events synonymous with 1969 casting a dark shadow over the sixties and the hippy ideal.

  • lindo vc s hells angels

  • lindo vc s

  • What a sad way to finish off the 1960s; especially after Woodstock. I was at Monterey for the Pop and Jazz fest in June 1967. That event was not marred by violence (even though members of the Bay area HA were there). The music at Monterey was better (my opinion).

  • Get that Nigger hahahaha

  • The concert was '69 and not '68 as mentioned twice here...

  • Altamont changed the world… for the better. We no longer have gun-toting punks like Hunter Meredith running loose, & everyone got to see those dinosaur bands for what they really are – pathetic druggies who can’t even play their own instruments, & resort to lip-syncing & pre-recorded backing tracks even at big concerts like this. Good riddance to them, & thank God for modern maverick musicians like Bieber & Gaga.

  • @JustinBieberKicksAs Meredith Hunter who was black, arrived with a white girl, and one of the angels resented the pairing, and went over to them to cause division. That is why he brandished a knife. Well.... what goes around comes around. Allan Passaro, hells angel who was found not guilty of murder, was found face down, in some ravine in March, 1985, with ten thousand dollars in his pockets. Live by the sword, die by the sword!!

  • @Helivz Hunter who was Black, that part you got right, tried to get on stage and was thrown off and had his hair pulled. Since Hunter was high off his ass on Meth he thought it was a good idea to brandish a REVOLVER, as seen in the Documentary "Gimme Shelter" . The Angel stabbed Hunter after he pushed through his gf (who was trying to stop him, pleading teary eye) pointing a GUN AT THE STAGE. Whether his target was one of the Angels who kicked his ass or The Stones he shouldnt have pulled the gun

  • @JustinBieberKicksAss You might be trolling I don't really care. But sure one can joke and say beiber and gaga are so much better.. and i would love to see beiber or gaga try and play an instrument with a band.

  • @andrewroach91 Hahahaa! Fuck you're stupid. You don't know that Bieber already does all the guitar overdubs in place of Keith Richards on new Stones material?

  • @JustinBieberKicksAss ... Oh okay, so obviously Justin is inspired by the Stones if he is willing to do guitar overdubs on their music. So you can't really say that the stones suck compared to justin beiber because he is willingly participating in their music.

You have obviously done some homework on the subject, which is great.. but in no way can you ever really compare anyone today, to the legendary bands of the 60s and 70s.

    Sorry bud.

  • @andrewroach91 Justin only lowers himself to do the guitar overdubs on new Stones material because they pay him millions of dollars to do so. Jagger himself stated in interviews that he has learned so much about songwriting from having Justin in the studio.

  • @JustinBieberKicksAss you're a moron,drink more fluoride child

  • What is the name of this song?

  • @Brunk42 White rabbit

  • at least the angels werent a bunch of wimps like all the hippie boys who got on their knees for anything with an english accent

  • @baleariclife89 They didn't select the angels, it wasn't their gig, the angels were always going to be doing it, just like the teamsters had to drive the rtucks. Read 'you can't always get what yoiu want' by sam cutler.

  • @baleariclife89 That poor cunt was just as bad, he was aiming a gun.

  • That concert was in 1969..glitcherooo..anyone who wasn't there is only kibitizing or opinionizing..Peace Tony

  • Look at those nipples

  • Who is the guy on the ground at 1:18? And is that who they're beating at 1:14 or was that when they were beating Meredith Hunter?

  • @loveyou9512 no meridith hunter was beaten and killed at night when the stones were playing " Under my thumb"

  • 2:21

  • It was 1969, not 1968.

  • go great uncle

  • this song is White Rabbit, with Jefferson Airplane...

  • Great post,but wrong year,was 1969!

  • Fuck a BIKER,thats all i have to say......They think they're cool and really they're nothing but classless insecure rednecks on wheels.Whoooo! that was a mouthful.....

  • Now, this great -- but where are the Rolling Stones and the Hells Angels?

  • it was 75

  • Comment removed

  • This festival took place in December. Is it hot down there at that time of year? Strange time to have an open air festival. It was 1969, last month of the 1960s. The rot had already set in with Manson, this was just the dark of night before the dawn of the 70s.

  • @flaxonx3 it's not usually warm in Dec - that day at its height it was in the low 60s and dropped into the 20s at night!

  • @flaxonx3 i was at altamont that day .some friends told me the stones were having a free concert there.all i remember is freezing my ass off in the middle of nowhere surrounded by a multitude of stinking people all fucking weird . the day was ugly the place was ugly and the people were ugly. that made me never wanna be a hippie!

  • Hells Angels talentless pussies, Jefferson Airplane awesome and the rolling stones enough said.

  • the official death of the 60's. Read stanley booths' " the true adventures of the rolling stones" he was there, off his tits, with his arse twitching. He describes it beautifully

  • Fuck, altamont wasn't in 68.

  • @MyAccount4TrollingU I know....that's kind of a lame goof

  • Is it true that Sonny Barger was considering to make Hunter's S. Thompson an honorary Hell's Angel. To me, it seems possible considering that they were soul brothers.

  • what's this song playing?

  • @mopito31 white rabit

  • thaat still shot makes me laugh at how dirty and shitty the weed was just like all the hippies

  • This is was the end of the flowers power . It ends with the stones gig !!!

  • Yep...'69, the Dec after Woodstock. Not '68.

  • That night the Hells Angels had their way...

  • What a tragic time. That overrated a-hole of a president Kennedy got us into Vietnam.

  • @guyNbluejeans - JFK had signed a directive in October 1963 that would have ended the war. The most profitable business in the world is war. It is more profitable than drugs, porn and gambling combined.

Kennedy was taken out when he made known his intent to end the war, and shrink the CIA. The CIA is 1000 times more violent than all the HA's combined. War is the lifeblood of the bankers and weapon merchants.

    nobody stands in their way.

  • @390bullitt1968 A while back I saw a promo of a kennedy documentary in which some aide close to him stated that "Kennedy said he wanted us to go to war with Vietnam because he wanted to show the world how powerful America was."

I don't know if that really happened because I wasn't there back then, but I'm inclined to think it's true and I never heard anyone say with the exception of you that he signed something to end it. What an absolute horror and waste that war was. I blame kennedy.

  • @guyNbluejeans - Kennedy was anti war, anti CIA anti - Federal Reserve. His pals helped steal the election for him, so that might not have been the smartest move on his part. Of course Bush stole both elections , but he obeyed the commies who surrounded him by the time he was in office.

  • These idiots are now running the country. Were doomed!

  • @motorhead1 I know what you mean....electing Jefferson Airplane for congress was a Biiiggg mistake.

  • @billheartyface I am talking about the counter culture in general. You must be one of them. LOL

  • Goddam would I have loved to have married that chick who was walking at the end!!! Anyone know who she is......if she has grand daughters available???

  • interesting clip

  • you can feel the ambience through the pics

  • i used a black crackhead girls face for toilet paper once!!! she loved tossing my salad for ten bucks!!

  • its ok its like National Geographic, Hippies and Africans are ok to show nude....full frontal.

  • can't believe grace is 70

  • this blows.....except for the boobs at the end.

  • @bobwall68 I agree, the girl at the very end has boobs like my girlfriend, no lie.........

  • lucky keith richards kept his cool..there would be one less ha chapter..i hear the hells angels love the stones and mick jagger..thats all you hear at the club house..the ha s owe the stones better send the who to collect

  • Fuck the Stones. It was their fault that shit broke off like it did.

  • @ameriskin74 You've wrote the most common sense thing on this thread. "Sympathy for the devil" is not a good tune. He needs no sympathy anymore than a repeat child molester / rapist / murderer needs sympathy. Lucifer is behind all pain, suffering and misery.

  • @ameriskin74 and you base that on what facts?

  • @ameriskin74 Not at all. It started before they even took the stage. Jefferson Airplane had the same issues during their set.

  • oh this was when rolling stones got the hells angels to do security.....cause that was a smart idea

  • @1894holmesy I read the book "Hells Angels." Allan Passaro, former H.A. saw Hunter paired up with a white girl, and he did not like the pairing. Translated: A black man is killed who otherwise would still be alive perhaps, if Allan did not prescribe to the KKK philosophy. Long story short, due justice surfaces. Allan was found dead, floating, in the Anderson Reservoir, with $10,000.00 in his pocket., in March of 1985 What goes around comes around. In this case, it's good riddance!!

  • Dumb ass...its Jefferson Airplane

  • 2:20..... Nice!

  • che was a coward and a murderer and got what he deserved

  • more like jefferson airplane and altamont

  • BOOBS

    ON YOUTUBE

  • at 0:49, it's like "Uh, excuse me sir, would you move your dick and balls so I can see the concert???"

  • Che was a murdering pig who enslaved and raped the people!

  • I bet that alot of soildures that came back from Veitnam joined the HAMC.

  • in the picture it is not altamont it is woodstock new york

  • Silly stones. US bike gangs were a little different to British bike gangs back then.

  • Im from Argentina.. in the 97 in every wall of this country was written "Viva el Che y los Rolling Stones"

  • @villafane12 no maradonna in the wall ..there should be,,,

  • 0:36 Obviously thought he had something to prove.

  • what's the name of the song in this?

  • @DIEGOZO6 White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane

  • @DIEGOZO6 Black Beaver by Franklyn Hovercraft

  • There is an enormous error in the date..the concert at Altamont was Dec.6, 1969..1969 1969,,if no one else has mentioned it..I thought it may be a good idea..Peace Tony

  • i'm sick and tired of people thinking altamont=hells angel killed a guy

fact: the guy who got killed came at security, which happened to be a HA member, with a loaded gun, and he lost to an unarmed man

fact: no hells angel was ever charged of a crime in this incident because it was self defense

judge not lest you be judged

  • @oakXXIII - It has also been suggested that the Glimmer Twins aka Mick & Keith should have made some other "security" arrangements, BUT -They thought it "cool" to hire HA-81 as security- The HA were simply following "orders" pre-arranged by the Stones management- doing what they were asked to do----

    End Of Lesson

  • @oakXXIII few things you failed to mention there, firstly the HA were drunk and intent on violence from the start. They bullied and intimidated even the musicians. (they punched Jefferson Aeroplanes singer in the face) They started on another guy because he was black and had a white girlfriend, she had an unloaded gun (because of rasist trouble they had before) when the HA began pushing him around she gave him the gun and they beat him to death. The HA were/are dirt man theres no defending them.

  • @prunch72 First of all he was not beaten to death.....he was stabbed, and second,he pulled out a gun,and third he was cracked out. That's what you get when you pull out a gun in front of the Hells Angels.

  • @ryanlovesmike Meredith Hunter wasn't cracked out. There was no crack in 1969.

  • @bobwall68 I used "Cracked Out " as a phrase.Sorry,I will use 1969 terms" He was far out man" "He was blitzed" "he was tripping the light fantastic" Can you understand now?

  • @prunch72 how do you know the gun was unloaded?

  • @oakXXIII watch the video einstein! Meredith didn't come at anybody! It looked like that he had been pushed or something and was staggering holding the gun then passaro came running over and jumped on his back and stabbed him! Yes an angel was charged with a crime because he had to go to trial where he was found not guilty. If he wasn't charged with a crime he wouldn't have had to go to court.

  • @gurumba1 yeah I'm not sure that would stand up in court, oh wait: it didn't!

  • @wungabunga gee what a surprise it didn't stand up in court! The person it happened to was dead and couldn't testify and nobody was going to risk retribution by the angels and testify!

  • Sorry this was in 1969

  • "TRUE COLORS" is a video of mine. It's about 4 bikers from opposing gangs, the HA, Mongols, Bandidos, & Outlaws, who are too hungover to recognize one another. The movie begins with the four sitting at a picnic table near an outdoor Justin Bieber concert. Suddenly Bieber walks by & the bikers scramble for his autograph. Bieber refuses, unless they hand over their colors. Quickly they hand over their colors, in return for the coveted autographs. Bieber thanks them, spits on the ground, & leaves.

  • @JustinBieberKicksAss your gay and stupid..sit down AND shut up..!!!!!i hope you do answer me so i can say fuck you again..idiot...

  • 1969, the end of the hippy dream...

  • @blogarage for you maybe, but you still can come to goa and live your dream bro' seems like the 60/70 generation forgot something "don't be another brick in the wall"

  • @blogarage: Not really the end. Hippy culture carried on into the '70s and beyond--but they did learn to keep their distance from biker-types, where previously they had had something of a symbiotic relationship.

  • Yeah, '69. The end of the 60's, both literally and symbolically.

  • Where's the video that shows the Hells Angel stabbing the guy with a gun who was about to shoot one of the Rolling Stones?

  • Goddamn hippies.

  • What fuck this up was young wanna bees hell angels swinging pool cues and bad acid. ok good by

  • thats a cool version of white rabbit

  • I didn't know the Rolling Stones played White Rabbit.

  • @Elmore3141 grinnnnn and mick can really sing !!!!

  • @Elmore3141

    They didn't ................ :{

  • BBC News, June 16: A German university student, off his medication, mooned a group of Hells Angels in Munich, hurled a puppy at them, & then escaped on a bulldozer stolen from a nearby construction site. The Hells Angels are now staying indoors, shaken by the incident. The Munich chapter passed on warnings to other Hells Angels around the globe to beware of similar attacks against them. There are rumors of the Hells Angels disbanding because of this incident.

  • The Angels knocked out Marty Balin, lead singer of the Airplane.

  • That's Jefferson Airplane singing White Rabbit and it was in 1969. Otherwise, nice pics.

  • Death to Hell's Angels.

  • @12stringsforme lol, oh really?

  • @12stringsforme Ditto!

  • The stones did their job, and they did it well. The stage was too low meaning crowd were constantly jumping onto the stage, making the angels job very hard. Not to mention the fact that the stones were meant to play in the day and they kept the crowd waiting for hours, aggrivating them, leaving the angels to deal with the fall out. Seriously, had it not been for the hells angels mick, or any other band member could have been shot..

  • I read where one of these new "hipster" music bands was starting to play at one of these huge music festivals..bannanaroo or some shit...some kid in the crowd chucks one of his flip flops up on stage...the band was so freaked out by the sight of a flip flop landing on the stage, they refused to play claiming that it was an unsafe environment. The Stones faced down the fucking Hells Angels, a bunch of drugged out biker scum that just murdered a guy in front of them...and kept playing...rockNroll

  • @VoodooPolitico Great point! gone are the days of "real bands"

  • @The6000Sabre I was there from 9pm the night before and we left past 9pm the day of the show. I was 100 ft from the stage in the center just front of the left scaffold with the American flag on it. Sonny Barger went by us on his bike and Mick Jagger walked by us. I recorded it on my Wallensack tape record and took pictures. Had a blast until the Stones came on...Oh they were great the crowd around the stage were not.

  • @7734Duke that must be a really cool memory .

    until it went wrong.

  • The Angel's did their job.

  • @428SCJ By starting fights with the crowd instead of keeping them calm and cool? Shut up stupid.

  • All the media saying it was a death of an era, well hell Woodstock had just taken place 4 months ago. Passing of an era so soon? I guess now I have to blame it on the San Francisco 49ers for using the first venue and having it canceled. In my opinion the motorcycle gang the Bandidos would have been a better choice. They were better outlaws bikers at the time! Hollywood just fell in love with those San Bernadino relocating bastard Angels. They really thought they were something. ADIOS!

  • You know if the Dead refused to go on stage, that should have told the stones there. Yet they had used the Hells Angels in Miami and another town that tour. God only knows what was on Merideth Hunter's mind when he pulled the gun. One would like to think he was aiming at an Angel, but it could have been a Stone also.

  • Jagger was horribly punched by a 'fan' that day.

  • would have been more popular about like woodstalk is had the hell's angles not been there and killed that guy

  • @Kalkas53 You dumb person. The hells angels were simply doing their job and defending the stones. Had it not been that guy killed, it could have been one of the stones themselves.

  • dec 1969 northern cali

  • photos marccurits com

  • Quite a contrast to woodstock!!

  • @TheDebtab Upstate New York is not California.

  • @amozartii Yeah, 90 degrees is the one I hate most...and 45

  • men. all stupid. just want to fight and cause mayhem. yep...stupid men.

  • Like their pussies on there own?? come on... obviously they can all fight individually.. but as a gang they are solid

  • all of them alone are just a bunch of pussies

  • yeah well belive it or not we need the angels they are a big white bike gang thats armed to the teeth, and when the shit finally hits the fan in this country, the angels are going to protect and perserve their race. go angels

Not making any moral comments here but inviting the Angels for bouncing is the ultimate act of high hipness and coldcut cool. A shame we arrived tooo late!

  • 196-fucking-8!!????

  • theres a naked khick in there.

    wicked

  • You don't know shit about Che Guevara man. You can't even spell his last name shit head. Che was the ultimate freedom fighter man. He was born to Argentine and Irish parents, completed medical school and fought liberating Cuba, the Congo and Bolivia where he was executed by the fucken CIA in 1967. He was a man's man's. Just before the CIA executed him he said "I would rather die on my feet than live my life on my knees". Feel like an asshole now randyxboozexmental you inbred hillbilly

  • @ECheGuevera that quote was actually by zapata

  • whats the name of the song playing in the background?..anyone?

  • it was 1969

  • Che was executed in the mountains of Bolivia in 1967. Altamont was in 1969. What the fuck did one have to do with the other?

  • Che guevera was just a little bit against capitalism. Isn't it Ironic now so many companies produce shirts with his visage? It's almost like a punchline by America.

  • crass-thats what america is-pure 100% unadulterated crass!!

  • The Rolling Stones concert at Altamont Music Festival -- where the stabbing occurred, was on December 6, 1969.

  • @dagosonfire just like it is for a white trash person to be racist ;)
