  • This is cool. I actually was looking for how to reattach the screws that came out that hold the screen on.

  • How do you delete everything on the computer

  • we have these at our school

  • i spent 5 minutes to remove the filter but 1 hour to remove the dust that went inside the panel....

  • He reminds me of Rainer Wolfcastle from the simpsons

  • Comment removed

  • @TheGdragon123 aye dude ur fucced up man this guy is putting and using his own time to show us how to do this and that man i bet you followed one of his videos before so dont say shit when ur not the one telling peaple how to fix and use their technology

  • They should have make it where you can slide the film back and forth, so you can use it under the bright sun, but no tint when you are indoor. Not a smart move by HP regardless..

  • Now, take a photo outdoors in bright light.

The film may have a use as a filter for bright sunlight.

  • EXCELLENT!!! Thank you so much! This also helped me figure out how to clean off this annoying dirt smudge on the inside of the screen that was there from the factory. Thanks!

  • works nicely. Just be careful not to let any dust or debris drop between the plastic cover and the screen (as I did). it's a bitch to get it back out

  • Love the accent. Thanks for the information!

  • thank you so muchhhh (:this really helped.

it was just scaryy opening my computer!

    lol

  • some of you are so ridiculously immature, making fun of him that way.

  • Hi, I have an exact mini notebook as this. Do you mind telling me how I can access webcam. I cannot figure it out. Thank you.

  • just use the force then later on he says lets use some more force hahaha

  • PEOPLE I GOT A EASIER WAY AND VERY USABLE.

DOWNLOAD ARCSOFT WEBCAM COMPANSION 3, AND THERE YOU CAN ADJUST THE SETTINGS AND CONFIG THE WEBCAM (BRIGHT AND THAT STUFF) AND YOU DONT HAVE TO USE FORCE.. LOL

  • @dfuentes14 : it doesn't work that way,.

  • who made this vid? yoda's tech brother from the planet hackobah... ive watched that part 20 times . love it

  • i opened it and i didnt see any paper..but my cam does start of very dark idk why "/

  • Thanx!! =D It worked on my Compaq mini =)

  • jajaja use the force lol

  • y para que le hisiste eso

  • just use the force, wtf

  • i agree

  • Nooo no no noooooooooooooooooooo I did it & it didnt work ,,,did i do something wrong hmm ? Well boo boo boo u & poop in ur wooooo ! everyone in here is a lame loser ,,except me ...u morons pigs oinck oinck

  • Oh fuck I cracked the screen

  • lol

  • lol you used too much force

  • I pried it open in the wrong spot, instead of the top I did it in the front where the screen meets the plastic. I didn't double check the video I guess.

  • yea it is a big difference did it as a watched the video its fixed now awesome

  • yes you are a lifesaver thank you!!! took my about 10 seconds :)

  • fixed my laptop thanks for sharing this!

  • LOL "Use the force" XD!

  • usee the force lmfao!

  • thnx jkkmobile!!!!!!!

  • my cousin did this and now dust gets on the lens and he constantly has to wipe it while hes on stickam, any stickam fans?

  • is there any program already on the laptop for the webcam to change the settings? my dell laptop has an integrated webcam too and it has a program called "dell webcam manager". i wish they had put more thought into the hp mini webcam. thanks for your video though =)

  • This also works with the hp mini 1030nr....I'm surprised at Hp. This is a big let down for me because i have always counted on Hp.

  • just watched your video and removed the film on my hp... amazing difference! thanks for sharing this amazingly useful info!!

  • my hp mini broke =(, it just suddenly stopped working and i only had it about 3 months

  • Great stuff-- wish I saw this vid before I started prying with a blade! anyway, I cracked a bit of the bezel with the blade... not smart. But I followed the vid and removed the plastic tint and I'm happy notwithstanding the small crack. Screw it, only I use this netbook anyway

  • my webcam works 100% better now. thanks youtube

  • the plastic peace is there so nothing touches the webcam u can remove it but put a a clear peace of plastic there

  • can you have another video file, and try the hp mini which you had took the dark plastic in the webcam.

    if its working.

  • so i did it and my webcam is a tad better but its still pretty dark. when i took my film off, itwasnt as dark as it was in the video!!! so idk what to do now... help me!!!!

  • having a clear plastic wont do. and the video comarpsion, its funny cause the new hp mini 1000 has a thin film which you can use the program to change the brightness.

it kinda sucks cause i got the hp mini 1033cl a month ago, and now theres the new hp mini 110. bigger and heavier, a lot better than the 1000 but its ok.. ill keep mine.

  • LOL i have the original 1000 and i like it WAYYY better then the new ones, since the new ones have that ugly stick battery.

  • Hey, could someone do a comparison webcam video capture with the film on and then off, please? And thanks for the how-to, video creator!

  • "just use the force"

  • gayd and random, wdf does that have to do with the video?

  • that looks pretty dark.. you sure its not polarized? if so, i wouldnt take this thing outside after removing it.... also dust will be a big problem down the line.... it would be better to put on a clear piece of plastic at least no?

  • Ok, I took the film off but you forgot to mention that I needed to do it in a dust free room in you video (I read the thread afterwords). So, how do you get the dust the hell out of there? The web cam works better, a little unsightly because you can actually see it without any type of zoom lens or any thing. It looks more like flat plastic with a whole but not really a big issue for me. I did however get dust in it. Any suggestions? Is it a good idea to take the whole thing apart to clean it?

  • *DUST* DUST DUST DUST!!

Do it in a dust free room.. like the bathroom. thats where i did mine.

to remove the film, you will need a blade b/c the film is attached to the screen itself, not on the camera. Also, it is glued so you have to use a blade, then a Sharpie to color in the chipped parts inside the screen. The sharpie is for the fill-in when you scratch off the black coloring. If you scratch and dont color in, you will see the webcam light on the scratched area

    (very easy to do btw.)

  • What chipped part are you talking about?

I did it and it's fine

  • like when you use a blade, you might scratch the inside of the monitor.. the black plastic part...

  • nice job i dont wanna break my laptop

  • you wont i just did it and it is soooo much better!

  • thnx :D great tutorial

  • Is there anyone in New York City who can help this? I'm slightly clumsy and I'm afraid to break my new laptop!!

  • Why the hell did HP put this dark film over the webcam. Thanks for this review I'll be taking mine off today!

  • for real! i just took mine off and it is soooo much better!

  • i just did it and it turned out to be a bit more difficult than in the video, because the plastic thing was glued to the chassis, but overall a pretty easy thing to do at home!!

thanks a bunch, i hope you soon show us how to put a ssd drive on this the hp mini 1000

    bye

  • Hey. Does this leave any scratches on your computer? I am getting one of these soon and dont want to put a bunch of scratches in it right off the bat.

  • no it doesn't i just took mine off and it is 100x better! i am in love with my mini!

  • Yeah...the man is right, nothing's better than the force !

  • the force is strong with this one

  • Why the hell would they put that on?

  • to make it look cool, i guess the foil is just the wrong type, the supplier must've messed it up..

  • "Just use The Force!"

  • when ur opening the laptop 2 get the film does that wreck it in any way lyk is it supose 2 do that???

  • a million thanks!!! my film was actually on the lcd side not on the camera, it took me a while to find out where it was but once i realized it, i just simply removed it... so easy!!! works perfectly now!!!

  • thanks a million, i just DID IT and it works like magic now.

  • why not turn on the netbook *.*

  • how do i make it where i can actually see myself its so dark on mine

  • "There is two snaps, just use the force" that made me smile. Thanks JKK.

  • yea mee too.. and some time after he said.. "let's use some more force"

  • My personal opinion is that HP may have been trying to reduce over exposure issues but instead got the reverse effect!

  • ThANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS VID. AT FIRST I WAS SCARED TO DO IT BUT MY BOYFRIEND HELPED ME AND MY WEBCAM WORKS SOOO MUCH BETTER!!! THANKS!!! =]

  • jkk got all netbooks!

  • hmm, nice tip.

  • they forgot to remove it in the manufacturing process

  • What? Is that what you believe? The film is there for a reason, to keep dust out of the webcam and screen (you can see the electronics) so removing it is a bad idea imho. The only mistake that HP made was to use dark film but it is there for a reason.

  • do some research before you comment, dumbass:

    tinyurlDOTcomSLASHhpmini1000cam

  • And you should learn to read before you comment, dumbass (to talk in your own immature words). They are talking about "apparently" as in "not sure". Next to that, you really think "someone" just forgets to remove it? Have you ever seen such a factory from the inside? I have (for my work)... it's a complete automatic process. Don't believe everything you read, or do you believe everything in your newspaper too?

  • i trust engadget more than i trust you, cheers.

  • Actually, there used to be a video very similar to this of an HP Employee showing people how to remove the film. HP has requested the video be taken down due to the technological incompetence of some of their customers.

  • Some tweezers would help.

  • exactly - sharp pointed tweezers are the tool of choice for this job
