I'm American and I agree with you most Americans are uptight I thought it was racist at first since I have no clue what was going on but I still found it funny, people call me racist even though I'm not I've been confused when talking seriously about something that had to do with ACTUAL racism. I personally, make jokes about other races my best friend who is Chinese calls himself black when he's hanging around with me while I say and go "I Chinee, Herro Mr. Ching Chong Lee." but we both laugh..

West Indians share no cultural similarities with stereotypical black Americans. The only similarity they have is skin colour. @HalfkastHybrid Well actually an advert is publically broadcasted so they should have to go by the publically percieved notions of what constitutes racism. so it makes no difference where they are from, if it is a commonly noted steriotype that all black people love fried chicken, then you can't put that kind of thing on the tv without is being seen as racist. @leltard The ad wasn't broadcasted in the U.S as it's an Australian advertisement. The stereotype does not exist here. It has been taken way out of context by people from the U.S because the ones that are arguing it is racist are trying to connect dots that don't exist here. It's exactly the same as all that "blackboard to chalkboard" and "bah bah black sheep to bah bah rainbow sheep" bullshit. You can take anything out of context and make it offensive if you try.

@auzziemate1 I'm not american, I'm English. and it's nothing to do with cultural. if a race of people have had centuries of grief because of a stereotype then it doesn't matter where it's broadcast, it's racist. it's like having an advert with the holocaust on it and saying, "oh it's OK because it didn't happen here, we don't have any stereotypes on the Jews" it doesn't matter at all, it's still broadly regarded as a negative stereotype therefore you can not deny it's controversy.

@chairde 2.7% of our population IDENTIFY themselves as Aboriginal. This means that a person of white appearance can claim to be Aboriginal if theyve had some Aboriginal ancestry. There are benefits to claiming ur of Aboriginal descent. Need i explain how that increases the Aboriginal population? As for how many in positions of power......well theres a few. It's not exporting racist imagery because the stereotype upon which the racist interpretation is based, does not exist in the country where it is being aired.
The racist meaning can only be inferred with a prior knowledge of the offending stereotype. if that prior knowledge is not present in the intended audience's interpretation of the scenario, or for that matter the australian advertising agency which made the commercial, your'e wrong

Even if they're is no cultural understanding of the stereotype of black people being genetically predisposed to eating chicken, KFC USA/Australia has responsibility in not promoting this type of racial stereotype. This is called exporting racist imagery and it does affect the way people think, even if subtle.

As an American with a background from the west Indies... i really wouldn't care about the stereotype and secondly i don't see why we (Americans) care seeing as how the commercial does'nt affect American society and also crickets not even a major sport. Finally the majority of Black Americans don't even care that fried foods are associated with them. Also KFC is one of the biggest/Popular food chains in the West Indies...
