Yes, the key is flushness and subtlety. When the overhead lights are on, you can't see the dioders; the lights and wires are hidden. Every other light is connected to a different control box so you get and alternating effect. It also helps to have a few mirrors in the room to reflect ambient light and brighten it up a bit.
