having listened to Elena is lots of very different roles...i dont think that she is out of tune in this video, yes there are pitchy parts, but for the most i think it is her really dark tone and colouring that causes many people to disputer her tuning.
Well, I don't know if the problem is tune, I think the problem is her vibrato; though I don't know much of opera I know I don't like that kind of exaggerated vibratos where you can't distinguish the notes being sung.
She is out of tune almost all the time PLUS she forgot the text at the beggining...Every singer can have a worse day, but I didn't expect this from her.
who was this actress? I have seen this wonderful opera performed live here in town. The New York City Opera Company put it lon. did a great job! a masterpiece! It lasted well over 3 hrs I was very tired after I saw it that night. Great cast and great singing of course the costumes were first rate! Where was this particular opera staged? sometimes prices for tix can be cheap. I do wanna say if u are into opera then buy a ticket, if not this should be your first one to try. go see this.
I'm sorry, but the low note at :50 is just SEXY. Wow. I think her voice is so hot. Lol. I also think she's a good actress. I don't understand people who thought she wasn't very good at all.
Do you know where I could purchase a copy? It's so good to hear a fully blossomed mezzo. Voices like hers allow you to watch her tell a story rather than be a critic. Fat-shmat, I'm sure she can sing better than the person who made the rude and unfounded comment.
My favourite Carmen of the 70's was Teresa Berganza. She sang the role with Domingo in Edinburgh, 1977. Very seductive! Clear mezzo voice. Transferred well to vinyl! (And Milnes was a commanding Escamillo!)
Why compare a soprano and a mezzo-soprano?! Callas is an absolutely Great soprano and Elena Obraztsova is one of the best Mezzo-Soprano. It's not the same and it's ridiculous to compare!
Not a femme fatale? have you seen the whole performence? and since when are the looks in opera so important? it's about expression and Obraztsova has that like few others.
I absolutely agree with you. In Opera it was never important how the singers looks! It's music, performance, expression, feelings...What about Monserrat Caballé, Pavarotti, Jessye Norman!!!! People leave stupid comments because they are just ignorant! Listen the music and feel it....
scusami ma tu non sai ascoltare perche se dici la sua voce e brutta !!!!!!!non e possibile !una persona che conose la musica classicca non puo parlare cosi
He he, the Charle Ive's version of the aria. She's like a step above the orchestra at times, it's a riot. In all fairness, though, it is sometimes extremely difficult to hear the orchestra when you are singing on stage. If you don't have a good sense of key, I can totally see how you can get off. The tenor doesn't seem to have the same problems, though. Really fun to listen to, especially for the unexpected dissonances.
Gosh... this woman has a wonderful vocal quality, but the intonation problems make this performance a pain to bear. It's almost comical to see how the expression in her eyes and forehead change when she realizes she's hitting all the wrong pitches at the beginning.
This woman was horrible. Bad diction, imprecise pitch all the time. She possesed a large instrument with poor technique and musical education... I remember that she ruined a complete recording of "Trovatore" with Price and Bonisolli (at his peak)...
still, it was a wonderful production, one of the first operas I saw entirely on TV as a kid; I remember how impressed my family was of the opulent stage setting...
I saw her sing Carmen at the Deutsche Opera in Berlin. It was terrible!!! I was thinking of walking out half-way into the opera, but I stayed: Micaela was good and very sexy...

Vraie voix de Carmen !!!! Je la préfère à Berganza, voix trop claire et policée qui faisait de Carmen une bourgeoise endimanchée.

Oh my dear, I DID listen, and what I heard is: she is very often out of tune.
No other singer plays and sings this part better? Do you ever listened to another one?
Hard to believe!
And: read all comments. I'm not the only one here with a good ear!

FAT? FAT? WHAT? She is NOT fat! And if you think she's FAT, then there's something wrong! Besides, size doesn't matter, voice does.
karatepanda13 3 years ago 5
We are talking about opera here, not about a concert, so size is as important as voice.
But even if only voice matters for you: do you realy think she is a good Carmen?
If yes, listen again
