Thank you so much for posting this - I have been searching for it for some years now and none of the major movie sites have copies of it. And for some reason, it features in neither of Richard Harris' or Jenny Agutter's filmographies. I can remember seeing it when it was first shown on BBC and it has always had a haunting place in my memory. Again, thank you so much for your contribution.
My sentiments are reflected in so many of the comments! I too saw this in 1971 and have never forgotten it. Thank you so much for making it available for viewing. Such a touching and tender film. Loved it just as much 40 years later!
I cried my ass off when I read the book and I cried my ass off again just now watching it for the first time on Youtube. Of course, I had the Camel theme music playing in my head both times. Thank you so much for uploading this. I have been waiting 29 years to see it (I got into Camel back in 1982).
I believe the reason it was never released on video was to do with a legal fight over the rights... Or something similar. I believe Hallmark own it right now but won't/can't release it... I too watched it as a teenager. Thrilled you posted it here... Both book and movie are timeless treasures. Thank you...
40 years later, and I still cried my eyes out. Some things don't stand the test of time, but this movie sure did. It has stayed with me all these years, and I never thought I'd get to see it again. Thank you so much for posting it.
I first saw this movie when I was a newlywed, and still full of romantic ideas. I touched my heart then, and forty years later, it still brings the same emotions, even though I've been divorced for almost 20 years. Thank you YouTube and Mark042683.
"For once Frith, I can be a man. I can fulfill my part." No matter whether I'm reading Gallico's novella or watching this wonderful movie, those two lines get me every time.
Thank you mark 042683 for uploading this long-lost BBC/Hallmark Hall of Fame show. Such a good adaptation of Paul Gallico's short story. I remember weeping at the end when I saw it as a kid, and it made me do the same 30+ years later when I watched it just now. It seems You Tube is now one of the few places one can see unjustly out-of-print films and videos like this. What can be done to get this great stuff re-issued on DVD? Okay, now I need to go find more tissues...snff.
@valkwahu1 Thanks for the nice comment... When you "get" or understand this movie it makes one realize the depth of what is taking place in the story and can become an emotional experience.
I stumbled across this on imdb.com and thought I would check YouTube to see if anyone had uploaded a clip and found the whole movie. A simple, beautiful story. Thanks for uploading.
Thank you so much Mark042683 for putting Snow Goose on youtube. We have been longing to see the film again for years and years and cannot understand why BBC haven't released it as a DVD. A great and poignant film (and book!). The connection between the Snow Goose and Rhyader is portrayed so eloquently by Richard Harris. Brilliant. Thanks again.

Some interesting observations! The parallel between the characters is, in my opinion the key to understanding this story. I found the painting to be interesting also as Frith carries the artwork at the end. The artwork, a symbol of both simplicity and what is "important" in life.
I first read the book, and its so difficult to capture, some feelings in it, in this movie, its a liked so much this story... in some way, the snowgoose, was Fritha`s heart....
This story is a classic...it has the delicacy of a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. Unforgettable, so beautiful and sensitive, but so sad at the end, like some of Andersen's stories. This film version of Gallico's novella couldn't be better--I can't see why they would ever bother to remake it. Many thanks to mark042683 for making it available here on YouTube.
This is the best film ever made. I saw it back in the 70's and wanted to see it again so badly. Over all of these years I never forgot how beautiful it was. Thank you so much for sharing it with all of us
I never noticed how beautiful the soundtrack was before. But having seen the film before, I practically had to start getting the tissues out right from the get go.
First time I've seen this movie in decades . Very Good movie, and Sad !

Didn't the Nazis bomb his lighthouse and everything was destroyed? Except the picture of her.
Prancer1231 1 year ago
@Prancer1231 You are correct. The lighthouse was destroyed except for the painting. The made for TV movie is "based-on". Thanks for the comment.

I just purchased a DVD (taken from TV) of The Snow Goose via the above address.
Quality isn't HD of course. Very reasonable price.
