Shadow was made in a lab, using the immortal genes of Black Doom combined with Eggmans grandfathers research. However, Shadow was imprisoned by humans for being too powerful and Eggman found him 50 years later.

This plan failed as Metal Sonic Inprisioned eggman most likely when Metal Sonic got hit eggman was doing this, high-jacked eggmans fleet and used it as well as kid napping froggy and chocola to lure everyone into a trap.

Shadow is pretty much Black Dooms son, made by Gerald! :') The Shadow the Hedgehog found at the start of Sonic Heroes who you play through the game IS the original. If you play the game, 'Shadow The Hedgehog' and finish every ending, when you get to the final boss in the true ending, Eggman tells you that when Shadow fell from Earth he saved him and pretty much put him on life support then cloned him. That's why Shadow was alone being guarded by Omega, because he was the original.
