  • Really love this; I don't know a word of what she's singing; and I don't really care - it's an authentic transmission of joy that I get from this. She could be singing about the muddy foot prints on the floor left by her son; and what I hear is the gratitude for his feet. Lovely stuff, the world can always receive more lovely stuff!

  • This woman want to make me go crazy!! I am from northern Nigeria( from the Hausa ethnic group to be more precise) I don't understand a word in her language but I have being listening to her songs for over a decade.I am a big fan of mali music, their rhythm is only what my soul can understand. May be I would have to re-trace my ancestors history weather they were immigrants from Mali.. Laughs*******

  • @TheBashir85 Sanu! I'm Nigerian too, from Calabar ,and I can quite honestly say,she puts todays generation of singers to shame! I love her music, and Malian music in general, because they keep it as traditional as possible,in either the music, the lyrics or both! I'm mainly based in England, but in Nigeria, people assume I'm from Mali because I mostly play Malian music......LOUD! lol!

  • @vixxy02 Ok, so u are like me? I listen to her and ali farka toure most of the times.

Ali blues is just great! you should check on him.. Peace!

  • Le nom Sangaré, c'est un mot Bambara? je veux savoire, ca veut dire quoi Sangaré...can any one help?

  • They are seriously grooving in the pocket on this.....UGGGGHHHH!!!!! SANG IT!!!!! SEYA!! Oumou is too smooth!!!!

  • real music right here no stupid ass taio cruz jason derulo annoying ass dog doodoo

  • @ Malila, Since when sangare is fulani, she is mandingo and she is from wassoulon

  • @ElDoum7

Indeed she is from wassoulou but she is also of fulani origin. "sangare(barry)" is a typically fulani name. (ask a griot if you dont believe me).

However many people have adopted bamana language and its culture through years in wassoulou.

  • @malila85

Sangare is a mandigo name, sangare been in wassoulou even before the fulani migrate to the western part of Africa, so you should tell your " griot" to have his or her stories check. Now concerning Oumou Sangare this is her biography that you can find just by streaming her name in Google or any site:

  • @ElDoum7

we obviously don't agree about the origin of this name. It is definitely Fulani (no doubt about it)yet, but you have the right to think otherwise...

When I said "ask a griot", I wasn’t talking about a griot in particular. I meant, any griot that knows a bit about west African genealogy would confirm this.

I already know her biography (I'm myself Malian lol!)

As for being mandingo what do you mean exactly? Because it has a very broad meaning.

  • @malila85

We are both from Mali then, and I am also from Wassoulou. I do know something in wassoulou we have what we call wassolou fulah and I do know Oumou Sangare is not one of that. My wife is a wassoulou fulani, so that names doesn't bother me cos we get pretty good along in the wassolon . All i do know is Sangare is not a fulani name but if we think otherwise then good, and concerning Diakite , wow, that is my first information about Diakite being fulani thanks for the information

  • @malila85 I am from the sudan, i don't know any thing about her origin, but i can testify that she is a beautiful African woman.I love the song"SEYA"

  • @malila85

Oumou Sangare (born February 25, 1968, in Bamako, Mali) is a Malian Wassoulou musician, sometimes referred to as "The Songbird of Wassoulou." Wassoulou is a historic region south of the Niger River, and the music there is descended from traditional hunting songs, and is accompanied by a calabash. Her mother was the singer Aminata Diakité.

  • @ElDoum7

and? what does it learn me that I don't already know? By the way even her mother’s name "Diakité" is Fulani.

Just out of curiosity, doest the fact she has Fulani origins disturbs you?

  • bonne sonoriter i like it niceeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee u Oumo!!

  • Is she mandingo

  • @Dainkeh1

She is Fulani but speaks bamana.

  • i love this song

  • Does anyone have the translation? Sound is awesome! Wanna go out dancing!

  • @gleyseh Yea... she is talking about going to Mali to get a dress.... She is going to go to the tailor to make the dress which she is going to sew for the people she loves (the people of Mali) then she describes the different types of dresses that she might make and then she's going to buy beads to put around her waist and shake them (common practice for some african women) and walk around in a sexy manner... very rough translation.....hope it helps :)

  • Allah blesses upon you Oumou Sangare for making africa pride with your talent..
