  • In a live performance I saw, when she was already grey, she stated she had been unlucky in love. We all know about Gram Parsons dying, but you would think one man somewhere could make her happy? Maybe she has found love since then. The music, the beauty and all in one woman.

  • GRAM AND EMMY LOU FOREVER !

  • I detest commercials!

  • @TruegrassBoy - I also hate the commercials !!

  • I thought it was great how you mixed the new and old pictures.

  • I've always loved this song but..... what's the deal? Not a single picture of Gram. Emmylou was singing backup on this song. He gave her the first big break. Not a single shot of Gram?

  • Because I love Emmylou, I follow her songs all thru You Tube. Many of you probably do, too. I observe that, in contrast to EVERY OTHER MUSIC VIDEO on YT, Emmylou's songs are accompanied by polite, complimentary, peaceful comments by people sharing their admiration for her. No rough stuff, no fights, and the ONE "dislike" on this vid is the ONLY one I've ever seen on an ELH video! Emmylou, you should run for some universal office ~ you might be our only chance for world peace until Jesus returns.

  • Thanks for posting . I always loved listening to Emmylou since the early 70's

  • Emmylou add's beauty in her harmony's with whomever she sing's with. A true legend and talent. I especially love her work with Neil Young .......

  • Gram Parsons was a complicated individual. His spiritual convictions were a reality in his life while he tried to balance that with his love for 'roots' country -rock ..... a walking contradiction for sure!

  • Only people who have lived long enough can understood this song. This song is a prayer. God is not needed until these sentiments flow through the heart like a river.

  • I love hearing Gram's voice again... never get tired of it. Love you, old buddy!

  • I would wall through hell in a gas suit to see her play again....

  • In your hour of darkness you gave us light.

  • Oh set me free

  • so many decades down the line I still think a mighty star had fallen when Gram died.He and Emmylou put their stamp on country music at that time - I sooo miss his voice!

    Thankyou for the posting

  • I can't handle it, God. You take over.

    their voices make them.

  • What more could anyone ask fo Emmy and Gram.

  • One of my favorite singers just about every song he wrote was sad almost like he knew he was going 2 dye young Emmylou loved him what a loss of talent he was great with the Byrds Sweetheart of the rodeo way head of his time

  • in my hour of darkness, in my time of need, oh Lord grant me vision, oh Lord grant me speed

  • Emmylou and Gram sang together like no others. I love Emmylou and truly enjoy Gram's beautiful sweet voice. The Byrds, Emmylou and Gram alone as well as Emmylou. Don't be offended Emmylou but I named the most beautiful dog in the world Emmylou. Alson amed another dog Townes. Love you Emmylou.

  • @goboats Hi goboats. . thank you for your comment. . without it I would not have known that there was an ad. . it seems that when a video reaches 100k hits YouTube grab it and place an ad without the poster having any say in the matter. The good news is that it is still there and not been blocked abnd if you hit reload it plays the second time without the ad.

    Ally.

  • Beautiful!

  • @robgroxyfan - didn't realize they both sang on this one; the album only lists Linda singing. Beautiful song. I wore out my copies of "GP" and "Grevious Angel."

  • I love Emmylou as well as the next person - but I hate to break this to everyone; this is NOT Emmylou singing here (if this is the version from the "Grevious Angel" LP. Linda Rhonstadt actually sings with Gram on this version.

  • @spearchamp It's Emmylou and Linda. first time they recorded together.

  • emmy is a delightful person. sings like an angel. very true singer. she traverses the world to meet same. she loves scottish music.

  • hey salgoud you know what they say america love it or leave it if we dont see you before it rains piss on ya

  • One of my favorite tunes...Thanks for posting!

  • video makes me dizzy, hard to watch...

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

  • wow !!!!!!

  • @rmeofiowa I swear it's all true. I also said wow, on that day. all the best to you. HG

  • She once sang in Paris, and I sent flowers to her, at the place she appeared. during the concert, she said " someone sent me flowers, you french people are lovely! I'm going to sing the next one , just for you, thanks a lot... " then she sang Pancho and Lefty; and I cried like mad during all the song... she's a perfection, like mozart or beatles.. I'm in love with her since "elite hotel", back in 1976. My daughter's name is Emmy. HG. PS: Nollafyzz, I love her nose too.

  • @123redwitch have you seen her duet with Johnny Hallyday of If I Were A Carpenter? It's outstanding. one of the best performances of that song i've heard. they sound great together.

  • @salgoudsamoht hello man; no I never knew about E.H singing with our good old Johnny. I am going to try nd find it, Johnny H. also sang a beautiful duet with Carmel, called " j'oublierai ton nom" ( I'll forget your name) it is on you tube, also; all the best; Hervé

  • @123redwitch thank you for your reply. i tried to include the link to the version by Mr. Hallyday and Ms. Harris in this comment, but i kept getting an error message in red, although it was well under the 500 character limit strictly enforced by the semi-literate automatons who mismanage this eminently useful website. so, please check you YT inbox for the links because i sent the message with the link there. take care and happy listening.

  • @salgoudsamoht thanks a lot, i found the video, I never heard of it before. Halliday went to Nashville for recording, back in 1984, and asked for meeting Emmylou harris. they did the song , straight in , and the video at the same time. not bad , hey? where do you live? Me in the french alps, near Geneva. I'm a "mountainbilly" regards Herv.

  • @123redwitch born in memphis, raised in arkansas. home has been the Tokyo area for the past 14 years. i like it here and am a permanent resident. it's eminently preferable to be a 'mountainbilly' in the French Alps than a hillbilly in the usa. your gift of roses for Ms. Harris was a wonderful thing, and i'm sure she loved it. also, thanks for the info about Mr. Hallyday and Ms. Harris' duet. they are excellent artists and sound great together. i'll search for the duet with Carmel. sounds good.

  • @salgoudsamoht what a blow-hard. Bowling between Tennessee and Arkansas and living it up in the French Alps, I wouldn't even brag about on a bathroom wall

  • @sanchojds reading comprehension skills aren't your forte. i live in Japan. i've never been to europe, but i would rather live there than the usa. 37 years was long enough. 25 years in the South, 5 in Seattle, and 7 in Philadelphia. i don't understand why you feel it's bragging when i factually state that i grew up poor, managed to escape poverty, chose to leave the usa because it offered little opportunity for me, and am married to a wealthy japanese woman. i've had some good luck. haven't you?

  • LOVE Emmylou and I agree she's beautiful, but her nose job is awful, seems like a shame.

  • the best

  • She is still so beautiful and with such a haunting voice. Love her.

  • perfect

  • legendary duet!

  • When she was younger she was just about the hottest thing on the country circuit. Gorgeous now too, but damn, just smoking hot with that talent, voice, and beauty.

  • @cgraber I think she has only grown more beautiful with age.

  • this is as good as it gets

  • emmylou and grahm are angels

  • such a lovely prayer

  • Why all the pix of Emmylou and none of Gram??

  • emmylou, has a voice that sounds great alone but even better in harmony. she is the sexiest lady on earth! thank you for sharing this work of art.

  • So damn good!

  • What do you mean "was"?

  • SHE WAS SO BEAUTIFUL

  • I must apologize. I don't recognize this version. This isn't the version that Reprise released, is it? I like it. Gram and Emmylou could not make a bad record. Even the out take in the boxed set is beautiful. What version is this? Gram is singing this with a little push, it's a half step down and the mix is bathed in reverb. Mark Mancini.

  • Emmylou / an American gem.

  • THIS, is the shit.

  • Emmy is more beautiful today as ever!

  • 40years ago. I'm sure copyrights have been stepped on. Thank you. I needed that.

  • wanted to see Gram but other than that still good pictures of Emmylou.....peace, cindy

  • Great pics, thanks.

  • Recently found out this song was dedicate to the late great Clarence White after he was killed by a drunk driver in the height of his career. Upon meeting, Clarence and Gram instantly became friends. Its tragic how both musicians went early, and how our country music today suffers from a lack of purity and soul that these two legends had in ample amounts.

  • @kdevine321 The first verse 'Once I knew a young man went driving through the night' refers to Brandon de Wilde who had died in a car crash. Whilst de Wilde never achieved his ambition to become a musician, G.P. was impressed with his talent and the two became great friends. Verse 2, as you say refers to the great Clarence White. There seems little doubt that G.P. took the loss of both friends very hard. I don't know who the final verse refers to. Could anyone enlighten us?

  • excellent

  • The classic version of this song for me.

  • I don't listen to country much , if at all. There is one exception - Emmylou Harris is an Archangel of country music. Gotta pay respects!! What an incredible voice! When I do listen to country every once in a while, I go for top notch stuff, and there is none better than Emmylou, IMHO. She's just Goosebump City when I listen to hear voice!!

  • @smkonwater23 Her and Gram are what got me into country music.

  • @smkonwater23 My exact same feelings. Angelic is the word that always comes to mind when I hear her. My favorite female vocalists far and away.

  • @myrjer Thanks. I totally agree. :)

  • She seems like a genuinely honest person, without pretense, who is true to her roots.

  • No Gram-No Emmy Lou!

  • @skippyxskippy You can't keep great talent down - we would have adoring her, Gram or no Gram.

  • And what a love affair . . . . she loved him so much, and it has been present in her music ever since he died . . .

  • Gram and Emmylou .... none better

  • That Emmy Lou is one beautiful woman.

  • Comment removed

  • Rest in peace, Gram. We miss you....

  • What a good sound and beautiful vocal harmonies !

  • nice... thanks!
