  • If you think about it, cats are the only species that domesticated themselves. The cat gave up some of his freedom for creature comforts, but kept his hunting instincts which are about the only thing that kept them around. The fewer mice, rats, gophers, and moles the better!. Servals are truly wonderful animals. I would hope these two have plenty of territory to roam.

  • Magnificent animal

  • Nice house - but doesn't that critter spray everywhere? I heard servals spray for five seconds or five feet, whichever comes first.

Whatever, he's gorgeous. I hope you can give him a home forever, and that he never ends up in a rescue - that happens to a lot of serval (unless they get put down first).

  • Many animals have become endangered or extinct because of hunting. Two other major factors are food supply and habitat. When wild cat fur was in vogue and not illegal as now many species were hunted to near extinction. In places where there is not enough habit or food since man moved in they are staying endangered. The serval populations in Africa are robust in some parts while still endangered in other.

  • This is just seriously bad taste.

That whole house badly needs remodelling!

  • LOL- I got a good laugh thanks. Very cool.

  • People only get in a huff about hybrids because the media got in on the topic and made everyone feel like a fucking pet expert, bottom line is, if its not your pet, its not your business. So go bitch about it to someone who will listen. Hybrids are awesomeeeee.

  • My hybrid F2 Jungle Cat, drags stuff around all the time, including a tunnel like that but smaller for a cat his size :) gotta love the exotics, they can cause alot off aggravation but it's worth it!

  • Such a beautiful and clever animal!

  • it seems no cat understands spatial reasoning.......if my cat wasn't half chicken, he would probably do what your cat is trying.....and fail in a more spectacular manner.....

  • omg hes so cute!

  • how does a serval go together with another animal? ever tried? my point is I've seen some where they get a bit harsh with mostly husbands. but I think that might be a bit territorial problem. all in all cats especially grown up doesn't go very well with strangers.

saw one video with a serval tolerating lots of family members without agressive/agitated or shy behaviour. though it did look like it was stressing out a bit :)

  • The Jack Russell and Daschund can still take him. As an added bonus, they would be dogs.

  • aww so cute he got stuck in the tunnel.....

  • Does he stay in his enclosure or loose in the house most of the time? does he spray? He's very cute ^_^

  • 20 лет :-)

  • THAT is ADORABLE. I don't know much about the animal, but this little guy you can tell lives here. His Bed, His little Mat thing....just ADORABLE....

  • the only drawback about servals is that they piss all over your walls (spray) so people keep them in pens or cages outside and whats the point of having them if your going to cage them

  • How does he/she respond to guests in your home? I honestly say that I don't totally agree with having exotic cats as pets, but I must say from what I've seen in these videos you are a lucky one. I didn't know servals could be so friendly even in a private home!!! How does he/she act around children?

  • класс!!! я вам очень завидую и тоже хотел бы иметь такого друга. с уважением hanswolf .

  • Big kitty seems to have a definite idea where that bed belongs, and is darn well going to get it there.

That cat's not just pretty, it's pretty smart.

    .

  • lol that's so funny. hard to imagine a cat doing this.. I want a serval!

  • @Eztini the animal is in the house because it's tammed. duh

  • whats wrong with people? servals are just big damn cats. Are you the kind of person that would be like "oh okay thats fine then" if the government decided these weren't "wild"? What exactly are you afraid this cat is going to do, go crazy and bite your face off? You dont need one then, fuck off.

  • hahah, calm down you fucker ;p how can the government (in what contry?) decide a wild animal suddenly is not, lol? im not afraid its going to attack stupid, im just saying its a wild endangered animal that should be in peoples houses, rather reproducing in africa - were it lives naturally.

  • So are dogs. So are cats. So are Ignuanas, So are fish, so are parakeets. Honestly, I've always hated this argument. How do you think the first animals became tame in the first place? Through pixie dust and tooth fairy magic? No, we took wild animals and domesticated them over many years. Why does this process occuring in the modern day just make so many people's heads explode. Is it that hard to actually contemplate?

  • @Rakkoz OMG finally someone who sees it the same way I do!!! lol

  • @Rakkoz

but we obviously cant go back and undomesticate the domestticated animals we have now.

why not just stick with a domestic cat? why keep countless generations of wild animals in captivity so we can have a "new" domestic cat that is slightly larger than the old one? Does that really seem worth it?

  • @maximum411 Servals have historically been kept as pets in Africa. The Ancient Egyptians worshipped the serval as gods, and kept them as pets. More recently, they have been kept as pets in North America and Europe. Servals develop an intense emotional bond with their original owners. Often, they will choose one member of the human family they live with to form an especially close and intense bond. They are not "new", get your facts right!

  • @marisoltrejos

Egyptians kept lots of wild animals as pets- hyenas, lions, cheetahs, jackals, but I doubt you'd suggest people keep those in their homes.

And it doesn't matter what Egyptians did- the servals people have today are not descendants of those captive animals- they are only a few generations from the wild and as a result still have all of their wild instincts. The modern serval-keeping fad has risen up recently.

Honestly, what does a serval have that you can't get in a dog or cat?

  • @maximum411 Do you like horses? Cause those are tamed wild animals.. You need to do some research and read a little bit more about wild animals. There are different types, and it all depends on where they came from and how they were raised. If you catch an adult Serval from the wild and bring him home and expect for it to be gentle and tamed, well then you have a problem. But domesticated Servals are generations of selective breeding. Dogs and cats have been domesticated this same way.

  • @marisoltrejos

No, actually, horses are fully domesticated animals. They have been bred in captivity for many thousands of generations, while captive servals have only been bred in captivity for a few generations and have undergone virtually no changes as a result of it. The horse is domestic and the serval is wild, and even if the serval is bred in captivity it will take a very long time before it loses its wild behavior.

  • @maximum411 Also there are awesome documentaries on Nat Geo about dogs! I don't recall the names right now, but it's really interesting on how the create new breeds of dogs. There's this "new" (35 yrs. actually) breed in Russia called the Sulimov. It's a hybrid between a Lapponian Herder and a Turkmen golden jackal. The primary use of this breed has been to aid airport security as sniffer dogs. These have been created through selective breeding for many years, and are now "domestic" dogs.

  • @marisoltrejos

Oh yes, I've seen the documentary you are talking about. The Sulimov dogs are just used for airport security though, and their breeders mentioned that they don't really listen to people- they just follow their noses. They are an interesting idea for this specific purpose, but nobody is suggesting that they be kept as pets.

  • Actually serval's are not endangered at all. Study before you debate.

  • cool...

  • those cats are amazing

  • what a smart guy :)))) servals are very beautiful

  • that is soooo adorable!!!!

  • LOL Yes a tough guy. He can't decide where he wants his bed. ha He has the run of his house. Fun to watch him trying to fit it in his tunnel. He likes that best I do believe. ha

  • Hope you watch this. Beautiful & funny cat.

    ~~Ava~~

  • What a beautiful animal! Tough guy.

  • smart cat:D ;)

  • I don't think it's coming out again for awhile XD I'm not a cat person but would LOVE a serval it's absolutely gorgeous! My dog wouldn't like that though XD

  • where do you get one and how much i want one so bad im 13 right now but ill get it in 4 years when i move out how much i want it!!!!!!!

  • Servals are specifically for breeding Savannahs. I'm pretty sure it's illegal to have them as pets in some states.

  • Neat he can put his bed anywhere he wants. I love him but couldn't have him. It would break my heart to lose him in 3 yrs.

How long can they live? Someone said the longest they have been known to live is 3 yrs. Maybe that is in the wild..

Thanks for sharing this funny & sweet video :~) Made me smile & laugh a little.

    *Ava

  • I've heard bobcats can live up to 18 years. Servals are different but I think they live longer than housecats do.

  • LOL omg Lol much that is the cutest thing ever

  • Be thankful he wasn't interested in the BIG SCEEN O_o

  • why would you want to domesticate a wild animal? Biology has been creating breeds for hundreds of years for the purpose of domestication.

  • Where exactly do you think domesticated animals came from? they started just like this, take a wild animal and tame it, she is doing nothing that hasn't been done already, she just doing it from start.

  • roaristhesound, why do you type things that you have no knowledge on?

Where do you think domesticated animals have come from, like Rakagea stated?

Also, this isn't a Lion or Tiger. This is a Serval. Serval are very worldy known to make good pets and are bred for being pets. They take work but are INSANELY loyal and loving if not the most of the cat genus.

Most get a savannah, a mix between several and a domesticated cat.

You act as if it's a damn Elephant man....

  • There's no need to get hostile, I was just just stating facts. Domesticated animals do come from wild animals, but that is after generations of adaptations to a more suitable and sedentary environment. I just figured that both parties (owner and serval) would have a better life if the cat was living in the wild.

  • First off, it's not hostility, it's called annoyance. Can google if you like.

Also, you made an opinionated statement, not a fact.

Several are wild animals, but that doesn't mean they are aggressive or vicious. It means that they have certain characteristics that they have developed that help them to survive and thrive in the wild.

It's the same with the domesticated cats ancestors.

Also, don't presume you know what the owner feels, or what the serval feels. Bonds are for life.

  • I don't really understand why you keep talking to me like I'm the stupid one.

  • They domesticate leopard cats into bengals in like 2 generations. Besides. Servals are awesome. they make great pets for adults who dont mind stuff getting chewed on oO

  • Servals have been domesticated for literally thousands of years in egypt.

  • these cats are born in captivity and have been used as pets for centuries.

  • Okay one word COMMON SENSE

  • That is one smart cat.I'd like to get a Savannah or a Serenegeti myself

  • um i heard if you put a males urine on what ever ur giving the cat preferably a female cat would help with the dominance issue which is why cats spray to show who's in charge

  • Aren't they beautiful cats? I have one named Tiger-Lily.

  • They spray everywhere.

Be worned if anyone is thinking about it. What ever you pay for this wild cat, just go ahead and double it with carpet cleaning bills.

  • I don't really think you could keep them on carpet. Tile, linoleum, hardwood floors (sorta) are better. There is an issue with inappropriate urination.

  • Ha, that's funny.

  • That was precious :3

  • That was too comical. I loved it!

  • That was too cute.

  • redecorating i see?

  • So smart!!

  • Roughly what do you care about when dealing with a serval ?

How does the wild still arise put aside he's a bit destructive ?

YT videos usually show these wildcats'

behaviour as so sweet but I guess they

need particular care and knowledge to skip from nasty reactions.

    Thx.

  • My serval is very sweet to me but he doesn't really like anyone else, including my husband. It takes a lot of care to manage these guys.

  • How long they lives? I love your serval... long time ago since I follow your videos

  • Lifespan varies. They are reported to live up to 20 years in captivity but that is very unusual. More reasonable would be 12 - 15 years, average lifespan for a regular cat. Unfortunately though, they are prone to self-destructive actions such as ingesting foreign objects. This could shorten their lifespan considerably.

  • @Spotsallover 20 лет!

  • @Spotsallover what do you feed your serval?

  • if you dont mind me asking, how much does a serval cost

  • $1800 to $2400 at the start, but that is just the beginning. :)

  • That's no so expensive... But I'm not quite sure that I could have such an animal in France, as per the law. Although I'd love to get one. On the top of that, he must be very... destructive !

  • just get a bengal cat. They're smaller and more tame version of this guy...

  • Or Savannah, since they're a hybrid with the Serval. (bengals are a hybrid with asian leopard cats)

  • I most definitely recommend either a bengal or a savannah as opposed to a serval. They have the exotic look with housecat habits. Much easier to keep.

  • That would be for a show quality cat. But you can get one that is not a show quality cat for less

  • Wow! You should get him to make your bed as well lol : )

  • lol, damn you bed, your getting in here lol

  • back off huuman, thiz heer is mah pillowz!

  • He claims all the fleece throws in the house. When I'm sitting on the couch watching TV, he routinely comes and takes the fleece blanket in my lap. A tug of war with the blanket either ends with him getting the blanket or the blanket getting holey from his rather large teeth. Doesn't matter how many he has already horded either. You never know when it might get chilly at night. : )

  • "This is mine! You can't look at it anymore." ^.^ 5 stars

  • My Eyptian Mau does this. Spike will kidnap random, helpless objects in the middle of the night and drag them into my bedroom. Your serval is beautiful, but I don't care how good you may be at taking care of it. Wild animals are not meant to live in a house with fluffy beds and tunnels.

  • Maybe not, but he sure enjoys it......beats the cold, hard ground any day. : )

  • i want one how you get it and how much whtado you feed him

  • lol!

  • I'm curious, is this Serval good with other people or just you? He's got a great personality.

  • He doesn't really like anyone else. He will tolerate them but there is no doubt he would like them to leave (this includes my husband who has been with him since I got him). They tend to prefer either women or men depending which one they bond the most with.

  • I actually find that with most cats in general. A friend of the family has a cat who is deeply attached to the wife but not so much to the husband. Then again, it could also be because it's the husband that usually has to trim the cat's fur and bathe her....lol. But still, she;s is more bonded to his wife in general.

  • Thanks for sharing...I learned a lot about Serval from your videos

  • I love it.. ABBA, my F1 Girl does the same thing all of the time with her bed or my clothing...

  • Very quite!

    Would love to have one...

  • acts like a dog

  • This behavior is just fascinating. I've never seen any kind of cat, wild or domestic, drag an object like that. I've seen them drag prey obviously, and play with small objects, but most of the time if an object is larger than them and requires a little more effort they just aren't interested. It's fascinating and also painfully cute!

  • @Mitejen my cat use to carry little bear around and a blanket, she's an average cat. she took her bear somewhere now it's missing =.=

  • amazing!

  • is this a F1 Savannah?

His patern is beautifle and his size is great.

    Is this an adult?

  • oh sry, got a link to a savannah... this is a serval right ?

  • Yes.

  • I love it,, ABBA and Elroy are always dragging there beds around...

  • hello.

I have a question. I am thinking about getting a Savannah. They are very expensive(2k-8k) But I saw that you said your serval was just 2500. If so why are Savannahs so expensive? Are cervals aggresive? I rather have a serval , I have plenty of room and patience. But I dont know if I owuld be over my head.wat does owning a wild cat intale when it comes to time, safety for the cat and myself, money ect? Can you please advice?

    thanks

    ~Rommel~

  • You have to feed them raw meat, fish and poultry for them to be healthy. You might also want to get a kiddie pool because they love water

  • Savannahs are so expensive because it is very difficult to get a serval and domestic cat to breed successfully. The advantage though is a large exotic cat with DOMESTIC CAT HABITS. Servals may be tamed but they still have wild habits. They do NOT completely litter box train and a 30 pound cat peeing in the house is a problem for most people. They also are extremely destructive. It takes a lot of extra care and expensive for servals.

  • i´d really like to know more about these animals. do you have an internet address?

  • wow so nice but be carefull he has a plan nahh jk he prolly wants to sleep in a softer place

  • That's quite a mesmerising animal...

  • I love how you have Rhythm of the Pride Lands, on this. I listened to this soundtrack repeatedly until my family wanted to shoot me when I was 12.

  • did you payed $2500 lol i got him for free :)

  • Now I know why domestic cats are so insane. Genetically speaking, they really didn't stand a chance, did they? LOL. I love your videos!

  • how much do servals usually cost?

  • Around $2500.....but that's just the beginning.

  • My girl friend wants a Serval, she used to have one when she was younger and wants one again so bad. She's willing to take out a loan for one <.<

  • Wow your tv's huge!

    (: Such a beautiful animal.

    Thankyou for posting!

  • I bought that TV so it would be sturdy enough for the cat to jump on and off. He used to lay on it with his legs hanging down like laying on a tree limb before I bought him the entertainment center to lay on.

  • where did u get him?!

  • I picked him up in Houston, TX.

  • He's lucky to have such a great life. Makes me want to buy my cat things. :)

  • You have such great soundtracks to your videos. Your Serval is so lovely. If only I had a "serval proof" house (and husband) I'd definitely want one. :D

  • Whoops. That's my comment above. I forgot to log out of my husband's account. Ha ha.

  • wow fantastic!

  • This is absolutely the most fantastic video demonstrating how intelligent these cats are. Apparently the cat would prefer to sleep with the kids.

  • Actually, that's his bunk beds and his room. Generally, he sleeps on the top bed and plays on the bottom one. He redecorates the house as he sees fit. The rugs, his cat bed, his bean bag chair.....he changes what room he wants them in.

  • Oh my God -- that is so cute. How incredible. What a sweet thing.
