Just when you think you've heard every U2 song there is, you stumble on a gem like this. This is why they've been my favourite band since I started listening to music. hell, they were the ones to get me into music in the first place.
I have the 7"single plus the album..this is when U2 were hungry.. just like any up and coming bands at that time. I'm afraid Bono & Co. don't do it for me anymore.
It was U2 stripped down to their most essential distinctive instrumental components, and, who and how they were at that time. A matter of character and sound. They were also most 'impassioned' in a focused 'grand' sense at that time, being young, fresh, and very eager, yet refined, though not yet 'established' in worldly way, though very well established in the Dublin scene.
I love this song. It almost has a NWOBHM feel to be honest, what with the heavy guitar and overall aggressive feel to it. I think October in general is a completely underrated album.
@ruralgraffiti they can't make the songs like this anymore because simply they are not the same people aymore, that would be a disaster if they would stuck in that era, they wouldn't survived so many years, that what makes this band so great and imortal
they got what they wanted and then forgot about the "music"....typical.

excellent. The build up to their finest album, War. After that it was all downhill...

I wasn't born yet when October came out, but after getting into U2 as I got older...I have to say their strongest work was definitely that era.
