  • How do you like the tones your getting from your Seymour Duncan 59 SH-1 in the Neck? I'm thinking about getting the New Fender Players Road Worn Telecaster and that's what comes in the Neck plus a Single Coil Tex-Mex in the Bridge.

  • @hawg427 To be honest, it's really hard to say for this guitar. First off, I use the bridge pickup much more with this guitar. Second, I haven't played this guitar in a long time, lol. And third, on my guitar, the '59 SH-1 sounds like its lower output than the bridge Custom 5 SH-14. Because of that, it always feels weaker. But if the bridge were a '59 too, I think it'd sound just right. But you know what, get the guitar if it feels right. You can always replace pickups.

  • hay arron are you going to get back to doing any more mule covers/lessons in the future?

  • @Espoacdc It's coincidental you mention that b/c I was just thinking about how it's been a while since I've done so. I'm kind of in a tricky situation right now because my normal audio interface that I use to record is currently not working properly.

But to answer your question, yes, I will be doing more in the future.

Btw, you got some nice Les Paul tone on that test video. What kind of Les Paul is that? Did you change the pickups? Sounds nice and chunky!

  • @tehorix789 yes im glade to hear that i cant wait for more of the mule!, my les paul is a 2008 les paul standard faded which i dont beleive that make anymore but i havent touched the pickups since i bought it, they came stock with burstbucker pros. a burstbucker pro 1 in the neck and a burstbucker pro 2 in the bridge. im glade you stopped by to check it out and liked it!

  • Babe, I listened to your rendition three times and other than "alright, alright, alright' that's where I lost you. You're a good guitarist, but if you want to pay tribute to the original Humble Pie, do the original guitar riffs. You could not do any better than paying homage to them. I'm a die hard fan from "way" back. Good luck with your future music endeavors. YOU ARE A ROCKER AND YOU WILL CONTINUE TO ROCK! Good Luck from an old Mom rocker!

  • @goldenstarpcfl This is a cover of Gov't Mule's cover. My channel (at least at that time) was devoted mostly to covering Gov't Mule songs and showing how Warren Haynes plays them on the guitar. I don't know if you're familiar with them, but check them out on YouTube.

  • @tehorix789 If I offended you in any way, I'm very sorry. Guess I was in the mindset of Humble Pie's 30 Days in the Hole. As strange as it sounds, with all the hate and discontent in this world, music seems to be the only venue where people can agree or disagree, most times, on a civilized level. Music is my escape. I will be sure to keep up with Gov't Mule. Thanks for educating me. Good luck in your endeavors-I'm a firm believer in music connecting our universe!!!

  • @tehorix789 2nd reply to you. As I promised, I listened to several songs and I can't believe I missed out on such great music. Thanks!

  • @goldenstarpcfl Haha, no offense taken, btw. I'm glad you like some of the Mule. I'll admit my knowledge of Humble Pie songs is lacking, so I'll have to reciprocate the effort and find out a bit more! =)

  • New to this band. Any suggestion on CDs I should buy first?

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980 I'd probably try Dose (their 2nd CD) or Gov't Mule (the self-titled debut). In fact, get both!!

  • @tehorix789 Thank you. Got Dose, liked it alot. So just the first two albums?

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980 Besides their self-titled debut and Dose, I'd also get Life Before Insanity and The Deep End Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. That should keep you occupied for a bit. =)

  • @tehorix789 Thank you.

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980

get your hands on mulennium...a true testament to the original trio...absolutely smokin' from beginning to end!

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980

get your hands on mulennium...the new live release, it's a true testament to the original trio...absolutely smokin' from beginning to end! you won't regret it

  • @Roose416 Thanks for this suggestion. I actually wasn't aware that this came out. I'm about to get it!

  • @Roose416 I just got Mulennium, and it is GREAT! That original trio was just right. And Warren did some playing I've never heard him do before. On "Towering Fool," at 5:44, he does some incredibly fast soloing, almost like what I'd expect to hear in a Dream Theater song, lol.

  • sweet man......

  • haha man you sound just like warren

  • Have you used any other S.D. pickups? This set up sounds great!

  • Naw, these are the only SD pickups I've used. Thanks!

  • when do you use the sh-14 in the video, and when the sh-1? i really like the tone, reminds me of the tone in metallica's load and relaod albums

  • I use the SH-1 on any solo/lead work in this video(parts starting at 0:18 and 1:22). The rest, including the "verse" part at the 10th fret is all on the bridge SH-14.

  • @tehorix789 thanks. it would be great if yu made another video with the sh-14. maybe playing some load era metallica :)

  • I am so sorry about that last comment omg i wrote that to the way wrong person omg dude I am so so so sorry I was totaly not talking to the maker of this video

  • Haha, no problem. I removed the comment. The song is called "30 Days in the Hole."

  • okay half way decent what was the song tho?

  • this is not humble pie

  • Check out the description.

  • @tehorix789

    wich description ?

  • In my video description, I noted that it is originally a Humble Pie song but that this version is a Gov't Mule cover.

  • Great tone.

  • hey man ur a great player...not tryin to bother but u should tab out smoke on the water for me.....haha jk

  • Hey, I'd love to help ya out, but that riff is just way too difficult for me. ;-)

  • @tehorix789

    hi there

this is great ! but a complete begginer and I cannot figure how to play it exactly, any you have or write a tab ??

    thanks in advance

    villanueva

  • love it, great work. Any chance of doing the Mule's version of 32 -20 blues for us ?

  • I like their version of it. Yea, maybe.

  • Im just a groupie, but he should be called "THE COMMANDER"

  • Sounds great man!

Now show me how to play the "Bad Little doggie" solo.

  • Man your playing is pretty awesome bro !! I am just starting ( literally ) I am using an Epiphone Les Paul Standard with a Peavey Vyper 75. I am a huge Warren fan, your videos are really helping me. I just wanted to say thank you for posting them.

  • hay man do you have any tabs for this song i cant find any accuret tabs anywhere

  • No tabs yet, but maybe eventually.

  • What amp are you running through?

  • On this vid, I used a Johnson JM120. It's a digital modeling amp, kinda like a POD.

  • sorry...kinda like a POD, except its a whole amp, with speakers.

  • Love the tone, sounds nice and gritty

  • Who needs an electric? (Not I said the spider to the fly)

  • cool sound

  • seriously sick playing bro. keep rockin.

  • cool...thanks

  • you toggled between your pickups while you were playing, just wanted to know which PU settings you were using before and after the toggle.

  • I'm on the neck pickup for the solo work at the 10 fret. Everything else is the bridge pickup. The first toggle (at 17 sec) was right before I did the intro solo, but it's not as blatant as the second, loud toggle switch (29 sec) before the verse. Hope that was clear. =)

  • On your PRS, when yo take the tone knob all the way down, does it get really muddy? Mine does and I hate it for that, it sounds like I got a wah wah pedal knocked all the way back. mine sounds terrible, yours seems to sound pretty good though.

  • I'm really not a fan of rolling the tone knob all the way down or even close to that. I think that's only good when you're playing a Gibson through a cranked Marshall Plexi with all the tone knobs on 10 and then you have a fuzzface in front. Then put the tone to 1 and you get woman tone. For most other setups, it'll sound like shit.

With that guitar, and with most of my guitars, I keep the tone at around 7.

  • That leads me to another question, lol. Do you prefer your SG over your LP? and which would you recommend for the cream and clapton era stuff? sorry, if I'm bothering you.

  • Haha, no bother at all. With the SG and Les Paul, they're each good for their own thing (same goes for Strat vs. Les Paul and so on). The Les Paul has a beefy, punchy barking tone which is good when you want a heavy crunch. The SG is harder to describe. It's like when you want humbucker-type, Gibson sound without the bark. There are other pluses to the SG that I know I like, I'm just unable to articulate them, lol.

Anyway, cream era: a Gibson/Epiphone Les Paul, SG, or ES-335. Honestly.

  • Oh yeah, I know the guitars Clapton used during Cream, Lp's, an SG, es 335 and the firebird. I'm just in a quadry about what to get. have you played the new 08' les pauls?

  • I've played the '08 Les Paul Traditional with the "tapered" neck which gets thicker as you get closer to the neck joint. A very nice guitar.

Anyway, about which guitar to get, I wouldn't base that decision just off of one band's sound. You gotta figure out what style you're going for. Play both the SG and Les Paul at a store, and then see which you like better. Just remember that pickups made a huge difference in sound, so when comparing, you want the pickups to be as similar as possible.

  • I'm trying to get myself to think that way. I don't wanna get a LP just to get an LP, same with any othe guitar. I'm just gonna have to spend some time at guitarcenetr when I'm ready. Thanks for the help friend, I really appreciate it.

  • hey, no problem. good luck!

  • thats sick man, love your videos keep em comin

  • Which pickup are you using?

  • Both, the neck pickup (Seymour Duncan 59) for the solo work, and the bridge pickup (Seymour Duncan Custom 5) for the heavier riff parts (power chords, etc.).

  • Sweet.

I'm looking to buy the SH-14 for my LP..

Do you think it's a good pickup? And how much did it cost you?

  • I think that pickups will sound BEST through a Les Paul. It's a good pickup for higher gain (beefy crunch) settings, but if you're looking for a warm vintage pickup, it's prob not your best bet. It cost either 70 or 80, I think 70 (US dollars) back two years ago.

  • Well, I play a bunch of different styles.

Recently, I got into the older, overdrive-type sounds.

like.. In the Mood by Rush, or Whole Lotta Love by Zeppelin.

So far, I'm thinking it will be a good fit.

  • What do you think about the 59 to the neck, in a LP? Which pickup did you use?

  • I think the 59 is probably best used in a Les Paul. But is it the best pickup for your Les Paul??? I dunno. I found it to be noticeably lower output than the SH-14 Custom 5 I have in the bridge. Yes, in this video the neck was the '59. Honestly, if you're looking for a new neck pickups in your LP, I'd get a better pickup. It's worth the extra cash. Maybe try the Gibson '57 Classic. It's a nice warm pup for the neck.

  • Awesome perfomance, can we get the tab for the whole song+solo? Thanks ..

BTW,just bought a guitar with a custom 5 in the bridge, can't wait to play it =)

  • Hey. I'll probably tab this eventually. Out of curiosity, which guitar comes with the Custom 5 stock?

  • What kind of amp are you using?

  • Johnson JM120

  • If that don't move you you're dead.

  • Gov't Mule covered it, but little Stevie Marriott & Humble Pie originally wrote it.

  • Brother, you NAILED it. Warren would be proud.

  • did that PRS came with the zebra PickUps coz' i can't find a santana se with zebra... did you chenge them youre self?.. if so then what do you think of the origenals?... BTW great job loved it!

  • originals were 'blah'. these are replaced -- the description box has more info. glad you liked it!

  • TABS PLEASE!!

  • any chance on gettin some tabs? your fingers are just too fast haha

  • hey man, thanks alot for the vid. my humble attempts at learnin this song by ear and even with tabs couldnt hold a candle to what i picked up watchin u play. sounds right off the cd. awesome job. do u do any original stuff?

  • hey, i'm glad it helped. i haven't really tried any original stuff yet. but i'm taking lessons again, so maybe after i learn some theory, i'll give that a shot.

  • dude, you have all the skills necessary, you don't need any more lessons to make good music. Sounds like you just need to use the force and find some cool people to jam with.

  • dude u rock 4 sure..ur sound is really unique and ur own ...hear a little sabbbath and even hendrix (0.20-0.30 secs) but dude maybe credit humble pie not mule, it's a steve mariott tune, right?....small quibble for a realy cool vid...weldunn...keep ur sound man cuz it's a good one....good luck&thnx 4 a cool vid

  • Hey, I agree about giving credit to Humble Pie. I mention them in the description box. Thanks for the nice comments, man.

  • Would you recommend the sh-14 or the sh-4?

  • Hmm, I don't know if I'm in a position to say. I have heard both in person, but in different guitars: my SH-14 in my Santana SE and my buddy's SH-4 in his Epiphone Dot. If I were you, I'd listen to the clips on the Seymour Duncan website.

  • ok. thanks man

  • I've just ordered a SH-14 for the bridge of my Epiphone les paul standard, so I hope it's as good as everyone says.

  • Excellent.

  • Are those both SH-14 ? neck and bridge.

  • Naw, just the bridge is the SH-14 Custom 5. The neck is the '59 SH-1.

  • is that a good combination ? thats what i'm getting, is it good sustain ?

  • I like the combination for the most part, but I think any little qualms I have with it have to do with my guitar and not the pickups. I think if you put those pickups in a real Les Paul, they'll really kick. So, I guess it really comes down to the guitar. What guitar are you planning on putting them into? It also depends on what style of music -- I'd say the SH-14 is really best for high gain sounds and not for clean stuff.

  • Ever think of making a video just for a good review on the pickups for those thinking about getting them?

  • I'll add that to the list.

  • yeah, please, i would really love that becuase i'm probably going to get them.

  • Yeah, I'm saving up some money for them right now, but I still want to know for sure if they'll be worth it.

    A review would be awesome.

  • sorry man i didn`t check this one out to see the comments on it as far as the humble pie thing.i`m a big mule, allman bro fan from way back.great job, wish i could do half as much.

  • Bro - Nice job. You killed it. I have the song in heavy rotation right now and you drilled it . Tight.

  • Thanks for the video of Warren's guitar work. It's an awesome song to see live.

One small correction- He slides up to Bb, not B, in the initial riff.

  • Whoops, forgot you were in Drop-D. I should have said you need to play Ab, not A.

  • You're right!!! I had already recognized that I should have been playing that part in the verse riff a step lower (with a bend, too), but I totally didn't catch that in the main riff. I tried it just now -- it sounds much better! Thanks!

  • Hey there,

Nice playing! Is the bridge pickup a SD SH-14? Because it sounds quite good. I'm thinking of buying one for my Les Paul instead of my SD Alnico Pro. I want a BIT (not much) more output, for Punk Rock/Classic Hard Rock. Can you recommend the SH14?

  • Hey man, thanks. Yea, it is a SH-14. Here's the deal with this pickup...it sounds GREAT at high gain/high volume settings -- super thick and beefy. But at lower gain/clean settings, in my opinion, it doesn't have the same warmth and fullness as, say an Alnico II style pickup. But I'd go to the seymourduncanDOTcom Community Forum. There's a ton of info on that forum.

  • to continue.......About the tone, in this clip I used a digital modeling amplifier, so I think a lot of the tone came from the amp. But I dunno....One thing I can say, though, is that if you liked the way that pickup sounded through my all mahogany cheaper PRS, I'm positive it will sound better through a Les Paul (with that maple top and stuff). BTW, to compare the output, listen to when I switch to the neck pickup (it is a SH-1 '59 neck).

  • oh yea, I switch to the neck pickup at 0:17 and 1:20 just for the lead work at those two points. The rest of the vid (the main riffs/chords) is with the bridge SH-14. Hope that helps!

  • Let's hear "I Wonder" next!

  • Sounds just like Warren bro sweet job!

  • nice touch! go for "the fixer"

  • Pretty darned cool man!!

  • good job man, could you set me up with the tab? can't quite catch it in the vid.

    Ian

  • i'd prefer the humble pie version

  • Sounds pretty good.

  • nice fuckin playin, put more videos up

  • badass great job.

  • Good job man... nice sound!!! Its a kick of mule!!! :D

  • sonds like the govt mule version nice job
