How do you like the tones your getting from your Seymour Duncan 59 SH-1 in the Neck? I'm thinking about getting the New Fender Players Road Worn Telecaster and that's what comes in the Neck plus a Single Coil Tex-Mex in the Bridge.
@hawg427 To be honest, it's really hard to say for this guitar. First off, I use the bridge pickup much more with this guitar. Second, I haven't played this guitar in a long time, lol. And third, on my guitar, the '59 SH-1 sounds like its lower output than the bridge Custom 5 SH-14. Because of that, it always feels weaker. But if the bridge were a '59 too, I think it'd sound just right. But you know what, get the guitar if it feels right. You can always replace pickups.
@Espoacdc It's coincidental you mention that b/c I was just thinking about how it's been a while since I've done so. I'm kind of in a tricky situation right now because my normal audio interface that I use to record is currently not working properly.
But to answer your question, yes, I will be doing more in the future.
Btw, you got some nice Les Paul tone on that test video. What kind of Les Paul is that? Did you change the pickups? Sounds nice and chunky!
@tehorix789 yes im glade to hear that i cant wait for more of the mule!, my les paul is a 2008 les paul standard faded which i dont beleive that make anymore but i havent touched the pickups since i bought it, they came stock with burstbucker pros. a burstbucker pro 1 in the neck and a burstbucker pro 2 in the bridge. im glade you stopped by to check it out and liked it!
Babe, I listened to your rendition three times and other than "alright, alright, alright' that's where I lost you. You're a good guitarist, but if you want to pay tribute to the original Humble Pie, do the original guitar riffs. You could not do any better than paying homage to them. I'm a die hard fan from "way" back. Good luck with your future music endeavors. YOU ARE A ROCKER AND YOU WILL CONTINUE TO ROCK! Good Luck from an old Mom rocker!

@tehorix789 If I offended you in any way, I'm very sorry. Guess I was in the mindset of Humble Pie's 30 Days in the Hole. get your hands on mulennium...the new live release, it's a true testament to the original trio...absolutely smokin' from beginning to end! you won't regret it
@Roose416 I just got Mulennium, and it is GREAT! That original trio was just right. And Warren did some playing I've never heard him do before. On "Towering Fool," at 5:44, he does some incredibly fast soloing, almost like what I'd expect to hear in a Dream Theater song, lol.
I use the SH-1 on any solo/lead work in this video(parts starting at 0:18 and 1:22). The rest, including the "verse" part at the 10th fret is all on the bridge SH-14.
I am so sorry about that last comment omg i wrote that to the way wrong person omg dude I am so so so sorry I was totaly not talking to the maker of this video
Man your playing is pretty awesome bro !! I am just starting ( literally ) I am using an Epiphone Les Paul Standard with a Peavey Vyper 75. I am a huge Warren fan, your videos are really helping me. I just wanted to say thank you for posting them.
I'm on the neck pickup for the solo work at the 10 fret. Everything else is the bridge pickup. The first toggle (at 17 sec) was right before I did the intro solo, but it's not as blatant as the second, loud toggle switch (29 sec) before the verse. Hope that was clear. =)
On your PRS, when yo take the tone knob all the way down, does it get really muddy? Mine does and I hate it for that, it sounds like I got a wah wah pedal knocked all the way back. mine sounds terrible, yours seems to sound pretty good though.
I'm really not a fan of rolling the tone knob all the way down or even close to that. I think that's only good when you're playing a Gibson through a cranked Marshall Plexi with all the tone knobs on 10 and then you have a fuzzface in front. Then put the tone to 1 and you get woman tone. For most other setups, it'll sound like shit.
With that guitar, and with most of my guitars, I keep the tone at around 7.
That leads me to another question, lol. Do you prefer your SG over your LP? and which would you recommend for the cream and clapton era stuff? sorry, if I'm bothering you.
Haha, no bother at all. With the SG and Les Paul, they're each good for their own thing (same goes for Strat vs. Les Paul and so on). The Les Paul has a beefy, punchy barking tone which is good when you want a heavy crunch. The SG is harder to describe. It's like when you want humbucker-type, Gibson sound without the bark. There are other pluses to the SG that I know I like, I'm just unable to articulate them, lol.
Anyway, cream era: a Gibson/Epiphone Les Paul, SG, or ES-335. Honestly.
Oh yeah, I know the guitars Clapton used during Cream, Lp's, an SG, es 335 and the firebird. I'm just in a quadry about what to get. have you played the new 08' les pauls?
I've played the '08 Les Paul Traditional with the "tapered" neck which gets thicker as you get closer to the neck joint. A very nice guitar.
Anyway, about which guitar to get, I wouldn't base that decision just off of one band's sound. You gotta figure out what style you're going for. Play both the SG and Les Paul at a store, and then see which you like better. Just remember that pickups made a huge difference in sound, so when comparing, you want the pickups to be as similar as possible.
I'm trying to get myself to think that way. I don't wanna get a LP just to get an LP, same with any othe guitar. I'm just gonna have to spend some time at guitarcenetr when I'm ready. Thanks for the help friend, I really appreciate it.
Both, the neck pickup (Seymour Duncan 59) for the solo work, and the bridge pickup (Seymour Duncan Custom 5) for the heavier riff parts (power chords, etc.).
I think that pickups will sound BEST through a Les Paul. It's a good pickup for higher gain (beefy crunch) settings, but if you're looking for a warm vintage pickup, it's prob not your best bet. It cost either 70 or 80, I think 70 (US dollars) back two years ago.
I think the 59 is probably best used in a Les Paul. But is it the best pickup for your Les Paul??? I dunno. I found it to be noticeably lower output than the SH-14 Custom 5 I have in the bridge. Yes, in this video the neck was the '59. Honestly, if you're looking for a new neck pickups in your LP, I'd get a better pickup. It's worth the extra cash. Maybe try the Gibson '57 Classic. It's a nice warm pup for the neck.
did that PRS came with the zebra PickUps coz' i can't find a santana se with zebra... did you chenge them youre self?.. if so then what do you think of the origenals?... BTW great job loved it!
hey man, thanks alot for the vid. my humble attempts at learnin this song by ear and even with tabs couldnt hold a candle to what i picked up watchin u play. sounds right off the cd. awesome job. do u do any original stuff?
hey, i'm glad it helped. i haven't really tried any original stuff yet. but i'm taking lessons again, so maybe after i learn some theory, i'll give that a shot.
dude, you have all the skills necessary, you don't need any more lessons to make good music. Sounds like you just need to use the force and find some cool people to jam with.

Hmm, I don't know if I'm in a position to say. I have heard both in person, but in different guitars: my SH-14 in my Santana SE and my buddy's SH-4 in his Epiphone Dot. If I were you, I'd listen to the clips on the Seymour Duncan website.

It also depends on what style of music -- I'd say the SH-14 is really best for high gain sounds and not for clean stuff.
sorry man i didn`t check this one out to see the comments on it as far as the humble pie thing.i`m a big mule, allman bro fan from way back.great job, wish i could do half as much.
You're right!!! I had already recognized that I should have been playing that part in the verse riff a step lower (with a bend, too), but I totally didn't catch that in the main riff. I tried it just now -- it sounds much better! Thanks!
Nice playing! Is the bridge pickup a SD SH-14? Because it sounds quite good. I'm thinking of buying one for my Les Paul instead of my SD Alnico Pro. I want a BIT (not much) more output, for Punk Rock/Classic Hard Rock. Can you recommend the SH14?
Hey man, thanks. Yea, it is a SH-14. Here's the deal with this pickup...it sounds GREAT at high gain/high volume settings -- super thick and beefy. But at lower gain/clean settings, in my opinion, it doesn't have the same warmth and fullness as, say an Alnico II style pickup. But I'd go to the seymourduncanDOTcom Community Forum. There's a ton of info on that forum.
to continue.......About the tone, in this clip I used a digital modeling amplifier, so I think a lot of the tone came from the amp. But I dunno....One thing I can say, though, is that if you liked the way that pickup sounded through my all mahogany cheaper PRS, I'm positive it will sound better through a Les Paul (with that maple top and stuff). BTW, to compare the output, listen to when I switch to the neck pickup (it is a SH-1 '59 neck).
oh yea, I switch to the neck pickup at 0:17 and 1:20 just for the lead work at those two points. The rest of the vid (the main riffs/chords) is with the bridge SH-14. Hope that helps!
How do you like the tones your getting from your Seymour Duncan 59 SH-1 in the Neck? I'm thinking about getting the New Fender Players Road Worn Telecaster and that's what comes in the Neck plus a Single Coil Tex-Mex in the Bridge.

On your PRS, when yo take the tone knob all the way down, does it get really muddy? Mine does and I hate it for that, it sounds like I got a wah wah pedal knocked all the way back. mine sounds terrible, yours seems to sound pretty good though.
joebrassmonkey 3 years ago
I'm really not a fan of rolling the tone knob all the way down or even close to that. I think that's only good when you're playing a Gibson through a cranked Marshall Plexi with all the tone knobs on 10 and then you have a fuzzface in front. joebrassmonkey 3 years ago
Honestly.

like.. In the Mood by Rush, or Whole Lotta Love by Zeppelin.

You're right!!! I had already recognized that I should have been playing that part in the verse riff a step lower (with a bend, too), but I totally didn't catch that in the main riff. I tried it just now -- it sounds much better! Thanks!

Hey there,
Nice playing!
