  • This is obviously NOT 1966, most definitely '67 seeing as JImmy Page is already the lead guitarist and Chris Dreja is on bass.

  • Jimmy Page is the greatest guitar player ever on this planet. No ifs ands or buts.

  • Beck was better than Page

  • @socrates1818 Beck is still better than Page. Jimmy Page was great, but he's pretty burned out now.

  • dang..Jimmy was out of tune and still cool beans

  • I Think that Grand funk railroad used the Main Riff of this jam for the song "Into The Sun" from their 1st album 'On Time'.

  • Thats not from 1966, its from late 1967 or 1968.

  • Wow! Never seen footage of Jimmy playing a Tele!

  • @searayus1, the early days of Led Zeppelin he played a Telecaster.

  • The Yardbirds forever !!!!

  • Gosh darn it, why do guys from the 60s all have to be so HOT!! ?!!!

  • @wouldntyoulike2know I guess it has something to do with feminism and emasculation of men in general in our wiley times of PC. Those cats were still the progeny of the guys that died onNormandy and Iwo Jima--it was still there the swagger u know. Mike Hutchence INXS had it, but those days will never return. Peace out.

  • @stuckinwhopast wow, you are exactly right. This is the most intelligent and direct response I have ever gotten on a youtube video comment. I love how you have put this with your words. It is a shame we won't see it ever again. But perhaps there are still some men out there that could have the swagger. Maybe not to the degree of men of the 60s but I still have a little faith. Thank you for the response, I really enjoyed it.

  • What a bunch of Childish bitter punks. Can't put a sentence together or make a comment without using profanity? Do us a favor.Put a sock in it. Kids have to read this crap that you write.Would love to have 10 seconds with you.YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!Get a grip..

  • Happenings pretty good....Jimmy needed to tune guitar on Shapes

  • Be a man, boy.

  • see: Os Velhos da Montanha

  • can't stand the yardbirds,

  • @buckkillerr ... then there must be something wrong with you head brother.

  • @ufofan1980 go fist your gradfather

  • @buckkillerr Get an education, you fucking simpleton!

  • @GeorgiiiiRaWK you dont matter to me

  • @buckkillerr You dont matter to anyone, you fucking ass drilling troll!

  • @buckkillerr why fucking listen then u twat

  • @armjos1 you're a fucking cocksucker you know it?

  • I was 13 when the British Invasion happened and remember seeing The Beatles on Ed Sullivan, and I knew then that the world would never be the same again, the world sadly passed that wonderful time that was the 60's and only after these great groups had their time in the sun and then garbage became the top dog,all we had in the 60's gone pushed a side, now in last 30 years only the odd person has any talent,.most only sound good at all because of better recording systems, 8 tracks was all we had.

  • Keith had a rich voice for a young guy, See him in the resurrection coming to Earth near u soon!

  • What kind of amps are those Watkins ????......never have seen those before ......Rickenbacker ???

  • Looks like someone threw the drumstick back at the drummer (1:55).?

  • Beyondthebeat your incorrect,this was in 1967.

  • So who's the lineup in this video?

  • This was great, would have been better if the ead guitar players guitar would have been in tune on the solo.

  • oh shee... yep... I'm pretty sure that is Jimmy Page on that there bass guitar...

  • @yoseewails Jimmy Page is playing the tele...and Chris Dreja was on bass at this point. :)

  • JIMMI& jIMMY GUITAR GODS

  • I was a teen in the sixty's It was a trip and will never be duplicated .

  • the motives of this generation should never die...peace and love, flowers, friendship, happiness, innocence...that's what life should be. not war and hate..terrorists and murder. The people that lived then should influence us now...we should take up the torch to carry on...for as long as we are here before some bad dude goes & pops a nuke...for his "God"...peace man...that's the only thing...music, love, LSD...whatever...be nice love ya all man. :)

  • I cant beleive jimmy page is playing like that in 66..I wonder who influenced him? I guess there were blues guys using distortion fuzz before mid 60's?

  • @dannyhood66

Who influenced him in his fuzz tone? Two words: LINK WRAY.

Seen the "It might get loud" doc?

  • @Bietel

    CORRECTION :

    Two words : Jeff Beck

    He'd say so too.

  • @asmorgan88

Erm... seen the "It might get loud" doc...?

    :-)

Link created the fuzz with Rumble. No, Link did not record the first distorted amp like some people claim, but he sure was the first one to actually modify an amp to create that specific fuzz sound for a recording. Illustratingly, Jimmy Page plays Rumble from his stash of 45s in the doc mentioned... I rest my case!

Needless to say Jeff Beck is a genius, and his influence is huge - no denying that sir!

  • @Bietel

    Yeah, Beck wasn't the first.

But, Beck got more of that thick, heavy, psychedelic sound that influenced Page in his playing with The Yardbirds...and he certainly brought the same tone & built off the same riffs from them off onto Led Zeppelin.

Of course they're influenced by Link Wray...

But, Beck was the contemporary who was doing it the best, & first...so Page was greatly influenced by his sound.

Beck was the first of the 60's breakout guitarists to use that sound.

  • @asmorgan88

Ah well... if you say they're both influenced by Link, well yeah...

And of course Beck was a great influence on Page, so... OK.

Still - DID you see that doc? Not to prove a point, I mean, it's highly entertaining to see Jimmy Page put on that Rumble 45 and play air guitar to it!

  • @Bietel

HHAHHAHA - I had no intent on seeing it until now, knowing Jimmy does an air guitar for us!

  • Jimmy Page- hard edged even way back.

  • What fucked up camera work. Let's just look at the singer's head and a guitar body.

  • Another GREAT!!!!!!

  • Suddenly Rock; Thank your lucky stars!

  • Jimmy Page is God!!!!!!!!

  • I was 10 when thissong came out those 1960s well never be duplicated ever again Humanity well extint itself before anything like the 1960s well repeat it self and im speaking music wise alone never mind the life style.

  • Keith Relf.....one of the forgotten voices of rock, along with Kenny Picket

  • seriously? all the sounds were better then

  • 1966?

    I think this from '67

  • in 1966 I was 12 and I remember this!

    excellence!

  • I was born in 66. I love this.

  • I was five years old in 1966, and I remember this song....

  • @rousse61 I am having a great time reliving these songs. I was 6. My sister was listening to this, my brother was into Clapton and Hendrix, Doors ,etc and my mom was into J. Cash, Conway Twitty, Hank Williams. But my heart has always loved the 60's.

  • Jimmy Page has a distinctive style.

He likes to bob up and down while playing.

  • some one wishes they were syd barrett

  • This footage probably pre-dates Syds Telecaster

  • that is not true at all. syd didnt use a tele. and paige even said in the 70's he got the idea from syd.

just like the bow trick he stole from lee jackson

  • 'Syd didn't use a Tele' you say? then you say he go the idea from him. Your contradicting yourself. Many of the early pic's I've seen of Barrett he is playing a semi-acoustic Hofner or something. The violin bow thing was pinched from the lad from the Creation called Eddie Phillips. Who is Lee Jackson? Do you mean the Hammond player Python Lee Jackson?

  • lee jackson from the nice.

    syd played an esquire

  • Page didn't steal shit...

  • 1:33 to 1:50 is great guitar!

  • Absolutely great stuff, but I have to question whether this performance could have been from 1966?? I thought 1966 was Jeff Beck's time with the band, & that Jimmy Page didn't join until maybe '67 or '68!!

  • Okay, after doing some homework & refreshing my memory, I realise that Page did join in '66 & supposedly, Beck left the band late in'66. So this clip could be from late 1966 possibly!

  • @jeffthrow6892

I have this footage on a DVD, & it says 1966...

But, in fact, it is 1967.

This was filmed in March of '67, in Offenbach, Germany.

  • @asmorgan88 ----- I would have STILL guessed that it was indeed from 1967.

  • @jeffthrow6892

Yeah - I think Beck left the group in December of '66...so, it kinda has to be '67.

  • @asmorgan88 --- It's a shame that the brief time of both Beck & Page being in the band (as shown in the movie "Blow Up", I think it was called) didn't last longer! That could have been REAL amazing.......

  • @jeffthrow6892

GOD DAMN - it would've been incredible for sure.

It sucks that they only recorded 3 songs with the two of them on guitar in The Yardbirds...they recorded "Beck's Bolero" together, but that was a Beck solo outing.

    "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago"

    "Psycho Daisies"

    "Stroll On"

...someone told me that Page was also on "What Do You Want", along with Beck, but I don't think that's true at all.

Check out Beck & Page playing "Immigrant Song" here on YouTube....what a fucking gem!

  • @asmorgan88 --- Hell yeah, it would have been amazing. And "Beck's Bolero" is a masterpiece, that whole "Truth" album is fantastic..........

  • @jeffthrow6892

    Absolute. Absofuckinlute.

Now - I know Jeff Beck is clearly the better guitarist between him & Page, but who do you like more?

I like Page a hell of a lot more.

I don't know much by Zeppelin, other than the 1st album & a handful of radio songs, or much about Jeff Beck & whatever he did after '68's "Truth" album...but as far as The Yardbirds go, I like the way Page plays Beck's songs a lot more than I like Beck playing them.

But - I haven't listened to much music made past '70

  • @asmorgan88 -- Beck probably is the better guitarist from a technical standpoint, but jeez, we're talking LED ZEPPELIN here, Page has accomplished MUCH more in his career............BUT, I happen to think the Beck-era Yardbirds is their best music, though it is ALL good........

  • It is from '66 and that is the year Jimmy joined.

  • Um, I DID say that I'd figured that one out, didn't I?? I was just tripping initially, but I tried to correct myself!!

  • Well you said it COULD be from 66. Im was just saying that it is in fact, from 1966...sorry

  • Beck played lead, with Page on Bass. Then Beck had a bit of a 'breakdown' and left the band (after about 30 gigs in 20 days. Jiimie Page took over the lead guitar duties, find Beck's version of the story (it's on you tube)

  • @cokeydear

No, absolutely not...this was filmed in March of 1967 in Offenbach, Germany.

  • jeff beck era yardbirds were the best. just listen to roger the engineer. absolute classic

  • This looks like it could be from1967 and from the German program Beat! Beat! Beat!

Sadly, this is after Beck left/was kicked out of the band. The Yardbirds were at their most creative and commercially successful peak when Beck was in the band. I have to mention that Page's guitar sounds rather out of tune on "Shapes". Otherwise this is exciting to see. Actual live, not mimed, Yardbirds footage is a welcome find.

  • this IS from the TV show Beat! Beat! Beat! produced in Frankfurt/Offenbach, W.Germany by German Public Boadcasting & American Armed Forces Network before a live audience. it has never been put on VHS or DVD ... or broadcast beyond the local area for that matter. artists such as Hendrix, The Kinks, The Monks, The Mindbenders, The Searchers, The Move, The Pretty Things and The Creation all played this venues and were taped in fine fashion. i really would like to get a complete set ... anyone?

  • google or the person who posted this?

  • sorry, some of the TV show HAS been released but not all of it.

  • its only rock & roll

  • Nevertheless, important group with a fantastic sound and great talent.

  • Page is so good, and I play guitar. Relf was a cool cat, too.

  • ♪ ♪ ♫ ♫

    wow!!...

  • jackie de shannon wipped jimmy page thats what the song stairway to heaven is about, but I like these guitar solos.

  • These have always been my two favorite Yardbirds songs, especially the psyche "Happenings." Pagey looks so straight...and mod. Thanx for posting these!

  • The Yardbirds, particularly with Jeff Beck, were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of their time.

  • LOOK ,AT 1:57 looks like some fan whipped the drumstick back towards the drummer after he threw that one out into the audience nearly hitting Keith Relf and Jimmy Page.Crazy ,I would have kept that drumstick forever.LOL

  • Maybe so,but the beatles were really a studio band.

  • Well The Beatles sure knew their way around a studio more than the other bands out there that's for sure. They were so inspirational in that sense it's not even funny. HOWEVER, The Beatles could put on an incredible rocking show when they were really feeling it! Their early Cavern Club stuff kicks ass, Washington Colliseum in '64 and definately Shea Stadium in '65!

  • Hey foppa123 Fuck that! Watch the Beatles live at the Washington Colliseum! You'll change your mind!

  • the beatles and the searchers played live endlessly in hamburg that made them tight listen to the bbc sessions with no screaming

  • they'd blow the Beatles off the stage.

  • the Beatles are the best They did more for rock than any other group.

  • what really happened to Keith Relf?

  • He was playin his guitar at home, and he got electricuted...pretty sad RIP Keith

  • he was accidentaly electrocuted by an electric guitar and a microphone that had the polarity reversed

  • Awesome.....

  • That will go over like a lead baloon.

  • I LOVE THIS ,,Blast from the past! WOW! Brillaint and High Octane!

  • Yardbirds got "too commercial" for Eric Clapton, so he left...I think the truth is Clapton lacked the vision to see where they were headed and jumped ship. I think they were better without him.

  • Amen, they were smart to split away from being a Blues cover band. And even Clapton broke down and joined the party with Disreali Gears later on

  • amazing live video from the most underrated '60s band, especially live.the band that had Jeff Beck.Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton in it!(at different times) iremember gfoing shoutie crackers over it in '65('66?)

  • i was at a similar concert, look and feel, city auditorium venue, up close and personal; knew they were good; but jimmie paige, jeff beck, eric clapton, at times, who could've known! wow, and they came to harlingen, texas during the '60's and i got to see them as a young teen at the city auditorium; ah, what a classic moment that was indeed!!!!

  • This is a 1967 clip, Jeff Beck left the group ion December 1966, leaving Jimmy on his own.

  • wow Jimmy Page solo guitar !!

  • I prefer the version with Jeff Beck at the New musical express. This one is also a great clip. Thanks for posting....

  • Jimmy page took their sound to a whole different level.

  • I always loved the version of "Shapes" on Beck's "Truth" album

  • I remember sitting in a Cafe across from the BR Hotel where I worked as a Commis waiter and listening to this on the jukebox and thinking There must be something better than serving food to strangers: Little Did I know it was the spring of 1967 and That Summer REALlITY would Change forever....

  • that second song sounded like a pre-garage version of 'boogie nights.' now that i'd love to see!
