Reading skills for the IELTS test - skimming and scanning

These tips are very useful! Are you sure it is not advisable to read the whole passage in detail? Couldn't that lead to possible misunderstandings and having to start again?

@AnonD253 The problem with reading the whole passage in detail is time - the idea of skimming and scanning is to locate the approximate area of the answer, then focus on reading a little more closely to identify the exact answer.

i got 7 bands bt not 7 in each skill which wz my requirement, im going to take it again bt i still hv severe difficulty in reading,im much worried wht to do now....

i got 6 in reading in previous test

@dramtulrauf - Reading can be very difficult, escpecially given the time you have. The best advice I can give you is to practice as much as possible. You might also want to visit our other site IELTSforFREE (dot) com and take the free practice that's on that site.

this video helped me a lot when I was preparing and I say - this (described in the video) is the main thing to learn about reading task in IELTS. Nothing else is as important. You should also look up how to answer TRUE-FALSE-NOT GIVEN questions on the web - these are real tricky ones!

I've just had my IELTS & don't know the result yet, but my advice to all would be - please pay attention to the timing & do really develop the skill 2scan texts for the key words (or paraphrased key words) & after that read this paragraph in details. Otherwise you won't have enough time! Out of three texts, I only read one in full! (as there was a task to name the passage) And it was not difficult at all, I did harder tasks at home while preparing

im attending coachign classes 1st week it was Reading .. in 1st test i got 6.5 band in 2nd test i got 4 band and in 3rd test i got just 3 band.. its very difficult specialy my focus gets off the pessage when im reading it. Im worried what im gonna do in exam....GOD HELP me
