I just found this video today - Thank you! I've tatted for a long time but never got fast & think I was taught wrong. My thread continually twists & after only 4-6 stitches I must drop the shuttle and let it spin so the thread untwists. But your video truly make this technique clear. TY very much! BTW, I see other tatters using shuttles with no hook at all and they are blazing fast! Hmm, they don't have a bobbin so that might not work for you.
I have been needle tatting for years but not managed to work with a shuttle. I couldn't get the flip right. I looked at so many videos on utube and somewhere it always got complicated but I really liked your method and keeping the shuttle movement simple helped me to concentrate on the 'flip'. Yep I am still slow but getting faster and more sure. Oh and I only found your videos 3 days ago so I reckon that's not bad. Thanks so much. Happy tatting, Ria
I am beginner and I cannot figure out why I can't make a loop, every time I try to pull the shuttle thread to close the loop, it just knots and won't move. Please help me. thanks for your help!
Nice! This looks it could be a less fiddly way to tat. I spend so much time repositioning things on my hand after picots and joins. Maybe this method will fix that.
I've tried this way and find it reasonably good, but I've never got really fluent with it like you. Have you tried tatting the hook end of your shuttle leading rather than trailing? I used to use that style of shuttle the same way round you've got it but find I like it better pointed the other way. Regs... Megs
I like to use the blunt end of my shuttle because I tat so quickly, and at times I don't even watch my shuttle. When going so quickly it HURTS if you miss a little and stab yourself with the hook end. I make sure that the hook faces inwards while tatting, if it is facing outward it will hook your thread. I am so fluent with this method because I have tatted like this for 20 years. It is the old-fashioned way, my DGM taught me, and her DGM taught her in the 30s.
