This is the Trinity burst, 100 ft/33m above ground. The "dust" seen as smoke on the ground, crawling ahead of the fireball is caused by the shock wave/condensation cloud/Mach wave or combination thereof. This shock wave (Wilson cloud) is not seen on this burst because of the film sensitivity & dark. The intricacies & technical details are classified or have been removed. There should not be any doubts in people's mind on what happens. The Nevada test site is "peppered" with scars from hundreds of detonation. I have also been to Japan and looked at the memorial on Hiroshima, it is mind staggering - so much suffering. Peace.

The "waves" apear to be in a straight line because they expand outward from the centre in a radial pattern and by the time they reach the camera they appear straight because the curve is too large to percieve at the angle the camera was placed. In the same way the earth looks flat because the curve is to slight to see from ground level.

Shockwaves cause the SAND in the desert to ripple like that. The camera is at least 3 miles from the epicentre of the blast, which is why the light from the blast is seen before the ripples.
To disprove your theory of how Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed by A-bombs, read up about Hibakusha. Not one of the survivors recall extended periods of dynomite bombings. They all remember the intense light and heat of a single blast.

The atomic bomb heats the air and the ground to incredibly high temperatures (as hot as the sun) and could easily have set the trees on fire, however the trees could have been far enough away not to be burned but still effected by the blast wave.

Your reasoning is flawed.
You get the sudden 'appearance' of waves is because of triggered control of aperture size. At first the operator or machinery compensates for the bright light coming from the explosion, obscuring most other details in the film that aren't as bright (our cameras can only capture a certain range of light information, much less than what the human eye can see). Later this is adjusted as the explosion intensity dies down, and so you can see the waves from the water appear.
