@juggaloskorpio Amen Brother! ! ! Thats the ONLY reason this dude has dislikes! What a bunch a cock sniffers! This dudes the SHIT and the tuts are simple, thorough and definitely informative.
WOW! I did this on a race car 48 years ago. Nice Trick.
It started out by spraying a few base coats on a car and pulling it out of the garage to dry and it drizzled out, and when I saw it I immediately thought of the affect it would leave if I sprayed another color over the rain drops. Great Minds Think Alike! Yes I am that old and was doing custom painting since I was 16 years old
in 1963 That's where the Lace painting affect came from etc. Still have my original Binks Air Brush.
As far as using enamel paint on this, perhaps using flat finish is better than gloss, so you can use an auto poly finish over it. Otherwise you would have to remove the gloss of the enamel so the clear would adhere better.
It doesn't have to be enamel paint... Ive seen this same effect happen in my garage when im sanding a car down, Its very humid where i live, so its common for water to build up on glass in the morning... When im sanding, the dust collects in the droplets and causes this effect when it dries... Not to mention that there are other videos that explain how to do this, that do not require Enamel paint
@hanzithaking hello there, can you give me some pointers on how to do my suv hood?? the hood is nblack and it has two yellow stripes i want the water effect like on the video or like yous came out,but i tried and it sucks!!! any ideas?? do i have to repaint the hood black all over??? and start from scratch???
@nightswan1984 u can keep the black and youst with a spray can mist it from about 1-1½ feet away u might not see it when the paint stil is wet but u need a heat source to make the water evaperate cuite fast and that should do the trick :D and u need to remove the old water effect
@hanzithaking hello, thanks for the input do tyou have pics of your work??? can we exchange emails so that i can see the results of your work?? also i do not have a heat lamp and heat gun is a no no right??
@nightswan1984 yeah if youst it isnt to cold that could make the clear paint faint or not cure right and remember to cover the truck before doing this
@LikeABossAirsoft The drying time is going to totally depend on heat, ventilation, humidity and size of water droplets but at 70-80 fahrenheit it should not take too long.
Easy way to test, put a drop of water on a piece of plastic and leave it. See how long it takes.
Only cos Ed used an airbrush with which he could control the psi and a spray can you can't do that you usually have a choice of just high or low pressure....
i've done a dark blue before maybe not a navy but if you start with a light silver (and i meen light, dont over do it), and then finish with white pops really well. also try gray's and white etc.... all paints around that end of the spectrum look sweet (and in my opinion the only to go for with a blue)
He means make sure you use an oil based paint. If it says enamel on the can its most definately oil based. All spraycans are oil that I know of. He was stressing that for people who use an airbrush or airless setup because you can use waterbased acrylics with those. Peez out
For "T" shirts and other clothing you spray or wash in NikWax water repellent as used for ski clothing which will make the water bead. Then the fogging of the paint and drying will work in a very similar fashion.
@Neeff89 if you can find out a way to keep the water drops from soaking in to the shirt then you'r good to go, i could be done i guees with putting water on a already painted surface of the t-shirt so the water doesnt soak in
007ecosse you make a very good point. Its not stupid at all. And uneekspark your attitude stinks. He says on there you can use a air brush. I think this is an awsome and simple affect very well explained. Thanks Airbrushtricks :D
@spawnron2 - i think once you put a few layers of clear coat it smoothens out. i did a 360 controller the other day, and the texture went away after about the 3rd layer of clear coat.
@spawnron2 Well imo if you clear coat it a few times (i'm assuming you ask for a car or similar), put a good few layers on then flat it back for a glassy finish like any other panel, it'll come out smooth!
Very nice indeed, just thinking though wouldn't a fine spray from the opposite direction in a lighter trnsparent shade make it stand out and look more like the light source the shadows came from? Just a thought, probably a stupid one though.
If you moved your finger over the 'drops' would they eventually wear off. Say i used this effect on an xbox 360 controller, will those drops chip/wear off?
the water doesn't get wiped off, it is allowed to evaporate either by putting the painted piece under a heat lamp or by just allowing it to sit over night. wiping the water off would do nothing more than smear the paint and ruin the effect.
This is the coolest shit ever! Thanks so much....you just solved a major hurdle I was trying to get over with creating waterdops!
