Alot of people keep saying that the production cost of the game was really high, which leads some (including people at Sega it seems) to believe it will not be profitable to make Shenmue 3.
What people ignore are all of the technological advancements since the Dreamcast era. Sure it may have been very difficult to pull Shenmue off during THOSE days, but in this day and age technology has advanced to the point that remaking Shenmue 1 and 2 shouldn't be a problem.
how can they not make shenmue 3 when they've made yakuza 1,2,3, and 4 and those games were freaking AMAZING and I'm sure they cost alot more money to make than shenmue i mean think about it the yakuza series story is just like a high budget movie
Yakuza sells like hot cakes in Japan, Shenmue didn't. Hell, for that matter, Sega had to be heavily pressured to release Yakuza 3 in the US and Europe due to the poor sales of the first two games in the west.

Sega has revealed in the latest edition of Famitsu 360 that they would be willing to resurrect the Shenmue franchise if console manufacturers paid them for an exclusive deal.
Lets hope Microsoft or Sony take a punt on this one, Im sure there are a lot of old Dreamcast owners that moved on to PC gaming but would buy whichever console it came out on in a heart beat. Shenmue 3 still has a faint pulse it not completely dead yet.

Oh my god, this made my day xD. Seriously, what the hell Sega. I know the first two games didn't do you much in profit, but when thousands and thousands of fans want to see something special, at least just an answer to what happens in this saga, I think the answer is obvious: Shenmue 3 has to be made. The way the first 2 games end, you can't NOT have a Shenmue 3.
The $70 million is for the project of 'Shenmue' rather than Shenmue 1 or 2. A lot of that money was spent in the early days at pre production on research/concept/music etc and that's why there is footage from Shenmue 2 on the SEGA Saturn, because AM2 had actually thought and built that far ahead.
Shenmue '3' cannot exist on its own and techniques SEGA where doing with Shenmue 10 years ago are old now. The series needs a reboot to make it accessible to a new market. That costs money.
Fuck that bullshit. What do you want them to do? Make it an FPS? A Third Person Shooter? That's pretty much all that's gonna sell to today's market of the fraghead McDonald's gamer. If they changed the gameplay so drastically to appeal to the mainstream masses, it wouldn't be Shenmue. If Shenmue III were ever to happen, it would/should be a love letter to the fans. I actually believe the Kikizo interview with an 'unidentified SEGA rep' and that Shenmue is ready to be ported. However, Yu Suzuki has been far too quiet for my liking.
Shenmue is expensive and I don't think SEGA are going to commission anything until they are sure they are going to make a decent return on their investment. Problem is, it's too late for Shenmue 3. Shenmue has to come back as the complete saga and if they want to attract new fans they going to have to spend more money!
I think Yu isn't given us all the information. If SEGA have removed him from his Creative Officer position do you think it could be possible that Yu has finished his involvement with Shenmue (finished story, concepts etc)?

We cant really be angry with SEGA, Shenmue was rumored to be one of the most expensive productions to date.

the only reason they won't do it is cos of poor sales from the 2nd shenmue. and thats cos they didn't market it properly, all they need is a good trailer a few months worth of teaser material maybe even some celeb endorsements some1 like jackie chan or tony Jaa and it would make a killing

Oh my god, this made my day xD. Seriously, what the hell Sega. I know the first two games didn't do you much in profit, but when thousands and thousands of fans want to see something special, at least just an answer to what happens in this saga, I think the answer is obvious: Shenmue 3 has to be made. The way the first 2 games end, you can't NOT have a Shenmue 3.

The $70 million is for the project of 'Shenmue' rather than Shenmue 1 or 2. A lot of that money was spent in the early days at pre production on research/concept/music etc and that's why there is footage from Shenmue 2 on the SEGA Saturn, because AM2 had actually thought and built that far ahead.
Shenmue '3' cannot exist on its own and techniques SEGA where doing with Shenmue 10 years ago are old now. The series needs a reboot to make it accessible to a new market. That costs money.

Fuck that bullshit. What do you want them to do? Make it an FPS? A Third Person Shooter? That's pretty much all that's gonna sell to today's market of the fraghead McDonald's gamer. If they changed the gameplay so drastically to appeal to the mainstream masses, it wouldn't be Shenmue. If Shenmue III were ever to happen, it would/should be a love letter to the fans. Because we're the only ones give a shit about it. Which is why it's never going to happen.

I actually believe the Kikizo interview with an 'unidentified SEGA rep' and that Shenmue is ready to be ported. However, Yu Suzuki has been far too quiet for my liking.
Shenmue is expensive and I don't think SEGA are going to commission anything until they are sure they are going to make a decent return on their investment. Problem is, it's too late for Shenmue 3. Shenmue has to come back as the complete saga and if they want to attract new fans they going to have to spend more money!

I think Yu isn't given us all the information. If SEGA have removed him from his Creative Officer position do you think it could be possible that Yu has finished his involvement with Shenmue (finished story, concepts etc)?
I know for a fact if I was Yu Suzuki and my company had decided to NEVER finish my biggest project, I'd be PISSED!

I HATE SEGA, THEY WONT GIVE ME THE ONE GAME I REALLY WANT. I used to play games all the time but after the dreamcast games just weren't the same. I play the old consoles and emulators more then th ps3 and 360 on my desk lol.
