if i was the owner of this engine/aircraft i would LOVE to have the compilation of the videos you made. to see the "human" side of what went into the changeover. [i never knew i was SUCH a gear-head!!]
@joelvh1 The manuals on the J47 do not really go into any detail about the screens, except to say they should be closed when taxiing, and opened after takeoff and in icing conditions. They are designed as a FOD guard, and are very solidly built. I think they would shred a bird at takeoff power, and probably would prevent critical damage, because the compressor blades are short and made of steel in this engine.
I was going to ask what was being tested on the run, but then i read the description. I need bigger computer speakers to get the full noise of this magnificent engine. good job as always
I'm going to give you a idea for free. Just be sure to give me credit. Instead of the EGT, you need the EGHdET. It stands for Ehaust Gas Hot dog Extinction Time. What you do is put a hotdog out the back and count the number of seconds before the entire hotdog is ready to eat. The lower the time, the hotter the engine exhaust. You can give pilots lookup tables or even gel overlaps for additions like mustard (yellow), Ketchup (red), and relish (green). What do you think? Maybe a sausage version?
@LarryCanFly Wikipedia lists .98 lb/hr/lb as the SFC. So, at 3k lbs of thrust, that's 2940-ish pounds per hour of fuel, given a density of 6.7 pounds per gallon. (3.78 litres) 835 gallons is just shy of 5600 lbs of fuel. So, bring your tankers with you if you want stay deep in the quadrant.

Hi Jay, Would the inlet screen prevent critical damage from a bird-strike? Keep up the great videos. Jet Engine Tutorial Series (JETS)

@TalksWithDirt What do I think? I think I'll keep this comment for a while, and see if you remove it yourself... ;)
AgentJayZ 9 months ago
@AgentJayZ Huhhhh, well I'd remove it if I knew how out of respect for you. The only way I know how to do so is with the owners panel. Rip away.

@TalksWithDirt We may actually use your idea in the future... part of it anyway.

How many gallons/hour? The F-86F-5 carried 835 U.S. gallons... not sure how many Canadian gallons that would be.
