  • It's as if Armando Ianucci is slapping him continually. Hilarious.

  • Brought to you by Cinco.

  • The bit with Asha-d had me in stitches.

  • Stewart Lee like Gil Scott Heron? Wow, he gives me more reasons to love him every day. So excited to see him in march!

  • KD Lang's let himself go.

  • I loved the stuff about Adrian Chiles

  • "The funny man is not a nice man he is a bad man he said badness about a famous writer he made the famous writer sad"

    Genius.

  • I don't care anymore, this segment is just the most awesome, funniest thing I've ever seen in my entire life! Man, I love this!

  • "So Solid Crew... They were taking British hip-hop in an interesting direction, what happened to them? Let's have a whip-round, see if we can't get them to come out again and drive around."

  • Everyone always says Armando Iannucci is underrated, which is not true at all. It just isn't comedy for the masses. Anyone who likes slightly left-field comedy will hail Iannucci, so it winds me up when people act like no one knows who he is. He's not meant to be Jack Whitehall. I think he's a god but he's not underrated.

  • @paddyfromthelane

Fair enough, let's just agree that Jack Whitehall is vastly overated for some reason when in reality he's shit.

  • love how stewart references chuck d, brilliant.

  • I love it when Stew can't hold back his laughter, at the "observer" and "trains don't have legs" comments, bless him.

  • These three interviews are up there with my very favourite works of television satire

  • 2 Great comedians - give Armando his own show for crying out loud BBC!!!

  • I'd love if after he said 'you've pressed the red button, now here is something of no value' it just went to a scene of david dickonson reading aloud russell brand's 'my bookie wook'.

  • Post-Chilesian?

  • If you haven't seen Armando Iannucci's previous work you should check it out. He was a writer for "The Armando Iannucci Shows", "The Day Today", "Time Trumpet" and "The Thick of It" - some of the funniest shows I've seen. You can watch them on Youtube or, better still, pick them up for next to nothing on Amazon (£3.99 for "The Armando Iannucci Shows" for example). Stewart Lee is certainly an outstanding comedian, but the other criminally under-rated genius in this video should not be forgotten.

  • 'The tones I tried to put into the saying of the words'

    INCREDIBLE

  • "... or dance." (unison)

Amazing, simply amazing. This is just so refreshing and giggely funny.

  • One of the funniest 12 minutes on YouTube. The look on their faces when they're talking.

  • I have never seen Stewart Lee almost cracking up, but during the So Solid Crew's message he is blatantly trying to look down to stop laughing...With Armando Ianucci trying his best to catch his eye. Fucking hilarious.

  • I can't recall the source but I heard that Stewart Lee was quoted as saying series 2 of Comedy Vehicle, currently being pieced together, will be 'even more annoying'.

  • two of the world's best satirists in a battle of wits, what a treat!

  • Iannucci is the only person who can say "trains don't have legs" and make me burst out laughing.

  • love how at 09:10 he has to pull back a smile..

  • Armando's assured nodding to the tape recording cracks me up.

  • post chilesean britain

  • wow stewart lee is a bad man

  • @ScotlandMaleGlasgow hes like part italian i think

  • Post-Chilesian Britain.

  • brilliant.

"people don't want experts no more, they want someone who looks like they might know."

  • iannucci is the funniest mofo in the land.

  • @blatspanner

    Second that

  • lmao 9:05-9:15

  • So Solid Crew actually have a new single out. Stewart Lee should demand some kind of promotional royalties or alternatively appear onstage as their hypeman

  • he'd find something wrong with it given time

  • @TheIkaraCult

I'd fucking love if Stewart Lee was So Solid's hype man.

    "T to the H,

    U to the G,

    Thugging, and we'll be til we D I E.

I can't express the importance of that message. Thank you and goodnight."

  • 7:28 Armando's face as he tries not to laugh is genius.

  • Stewart lee's expression at 08:55. Bwaa ha. Great.

  • We're in a post-Chilesian world

  • He is making himself to look the baddy as part of a joke.

  • Iannucci and Lee together. Speechless.

This entire clip reeks of genius.

  • Clever chaps, and the cutting edge is the mind.

  • Is this all improvised?

    It's brilliant!

  • Where it all comes unstuck for this argument is that Armando was probably told by BBC people (who pay his wages) to appear on the OneShow. The bringing up of the subject of Chiles being compared to a toby jug full of hot piss isn't exactly a suitable topic of conversation at 7pm on a weeknight in the BBC's eyes I would imagine.

Hopefully, Armando would of taken every op to be "rude" to Chiles off camera, thus making all of this much much funnier than it already is.

  • No.

To NORMAL people who can create a line of text without sounding like stuck-up snobs it is already funny enough.

  • It's the only way to deal with retard arguments like the one I was replying to.

I wouldn't class correct spelling, paragraphs and common sense as snobbery, the opposite in fact, I would think it to be quite normal.

  • You think that saying "piss" at 7pm on a little known bonus feature on interactive TV is such an offence that you have to comment about it.

You haven't really a clue about just how much shit (gasp) happens in the world otherwise you wouldn't have made such a snobbish comment.

Why don't you put on the News and start whining about real injustices.

  • No, the comment previous to mine was asking why Armando didn't compare him to a toby jug full of hot piss to his face while on the one show.

The one show is at 7, so I said that Armando would probably show more tact, as would the program makers themselves.

No where did I complain about the word Piss being used before watershed, as mater of fact I encourage it.

And this little interactive bonus feature was shown around 9, so it wouldn't be a problem.

    Learn to read.

  • It's up to Chiles to bring it up, he was probably afraid to bring it up because it's obviously true. WHy would would Armando say "Did you see Stew Lee's comedy vehicle, he slagged you off. It was funny, wasn't it?".

  • you are so pathetic you made me sigh in real life.

  • I don't agree - I love innovative comedy but I'm not so bothered about pushing parameters and 'bottle' or proving you're fearless by going on 'The One Show' and insulting your hosts or arguing with them. If I wanted contrived sensationalism I'd watch Sasha Baron-Cohen doing an interview for T4. Armando is a professional that's why he's so good at television. ("he's good at television, he's so good at television"...)

  • It's a joke about Chiles, just like jokes he makes about loads of other comedians and contemparies - just jokes! I'm sure some other comedians get it.

  • "When should we expect to hear if we have a second series?"

"well...you should have heard by now..."

I cracked up there. BBC needs to bring back the Friday Night Armistice.

  • definately, what a great forgotton show

  • More Charm Offensive, please, Armando! And put Dr. Buckles and Mr. Lee as regulars on said show. Ooh, ta!

  • Adam Buxton's input is clear, but I think he wants you to figure it out for yourselves so don't make it implicit in the comments. Black Squadron will get it instantly of course. 'What's Black Squadron' I hear you say? Well it's like the Bullingdon club for people with genitalia.

I love all three people featured in this video so very much. Thanks a lot for being hilarious!

  • Is that Adam Buxton doing the impression of a So Solid Crew member?

  • "There runs a train - trains don't have legs... If you want to make that clear you should have a footnote"

    Fucking hysterical.

  • This is absolutely priceless. As with a lot of Stew's talking head bits on Time Trumpet, I can't imagine how they both keep a straight face doing this!

  • These boys are almost 90% of the greatness in "Great Britain"

  • sublime stuff....awesome comedy.

Lee is so under-rated by the mainstream...its criminal.

Iannucci will always be a legend for Partridge/Day Today etc.

I see Morris is also script editor.

    Happy days.

  • What a combo. Well spotted!

  • This is the best TV-interview I have ever seen. And I have seen almost 6 TV-interviews, so I know what I'm talking about.

  • Brilliant.

  • Very good. I love Stewart Lee, and I've never seen anything bad that Armando Iannucci's been involved with.

    Thanks for posting this, BBC.

  • I love Armando Iannucci, he has the most deadpan delivery and it's always such utter absurdity that comes out of his mouth

    best line: He's a know-a-bit-of-it.

  • Oh my goodness. I can't believe the BBC spelt Stew's name wrong in the tags. What idiots.

  • Brilliant!!!

"Post-Chilesian Britain" - I thought they were both going to crack then...

  • I havnt got Russell Brands my booky wook

  • i think this'd be pretty much inpenetrable to anyone not already intune with armando and stewart's style of humour

  • Watching Stewart trying not to laugh during the tape from the 'So Solid Crew; was one of the best things I've ever seen.

  • Five stars!

this was even funnier than the broadcast on BBC2

  • Armando Iannucci's clearly doing a piss take of Mark Lawson - it's very well observed by him.

  • That is simply stunningly deadpan. I am in awe -- and I was already in awe. I am in awe-er.

  • Awesome stuff, I'm so happy that Stew is back on TV and back in the public eye, he really deserves it!

  • Newsflash. What you're watching here is a genuine comedy genius. He's up there with Bill Hicks and George Carlin.

It's a bit of a gamble for him to do TV again, I suppose, as he isn't really 'mainstream'. He is a stand-up master. But I'm glad he's done it. Not everyone will like it. Good. They can run off back to Alan Carr.

  • you were born as a joke

  • @biopsychosocio Alan Carr can grill my piss!

  • @biopsychosocio agreed, i must be honest i hadn't seen much of his stuff before i saw his show recorded in glasgow. the single funniest thing i've ever seen. HIcks Pryor Carlin and Bruce are legends but that show stood out for me it was absolute genius on lots of levels. Armando is also amazing probably the best comedy writer around with jesse armstrong and lennihan and mathews in his slipstream

  • @biopsychosocio Stewart has a consistent viewpoint through all of his routines. None of the material he's produced over the last twenty plus years contradicts its self. He is a loud voice in my internal dialogue but a quiet one in mainstream media, of necessity since the corporate machine in practice runs in the opposite direction to Stewart Lee and he knows it all too well.

  • No he hasn't.

    What are you talking about?

  • It isn't necessary. The whole thing is a piss-take and is aimed at the culture you are complaining about; it is very funny too.

The fact I have to spell this out is quite depressing.

Armando Iannucci is the producer of the show, btw.

  • stewart lee has pissed off for the entire run of the show. Thats not a pisstake - thats real..because he knows the hysteria that can blow out of all proportion other the slightest thing.

  • Well the religion episode (which will be ep. 6) may do that though it focuses on why people find religion funny not actually attacking it, its hardly fleeing though after making his first show in a decade and all the ups and downs of his career its not surprising he just wants to ignore it and have some time with his family, even comics need a holiday.

  • I was confused on what the message of this was. At first it seamed really serious as if stewart was being acused of really hating people and these were open attacks but then u turns and tries to be funny? Either way glad to see Stewart finally getting a bit of airtime

  • It is a mock interview conducted in the name of comedy.

The message is that those who take offence and think that gives them some right to censor people can go fuck themselves.

  • I got the message just when i first saw it I kinda fell for the seriousness at the start. Shows how sarcastic stewart is almost decived to the end

  • Many would disagree. I actually think he is funnier than he himself realises.

  • sadly you're a retard

  • You're just giving the So Solid Crew the oxygen of publicity with this kind of programme.

  • Armando Iannucci did write some of Alan Partidge so he's a very talented guy.

  • Indeed and much other great stuff besides.

Search for 'the thick of it' and 'armando iannucci shows' on youtube. Funnier than most things you will find.
