Am I like, mentally retarded because I can't get this?! I've tried it SO many times!! Someone HELP ME!! LOL. I'm getting so freaked out about a paper crane...
If you're struggling, orient the paper the exact same way as on the video and turn it every way she does. Don't worry about listening to what she's saying, but watch really carefully and pause it to do the folds. That helped me when I went wrong.
mush better than the other crane one you did :) i understood and my crane didnt turn out to bad :D, ill keep precticing though i as i folded one thing wrong but it still turned out ok :) x
@msreserved Remember this is not a beginner shape. You shouldn't start here - start with the cup, and the dove, and some of the other shapes to get the hang of the basics. You need to practice those basics first. Sort of like practicing skiing on the easy slopes before you tackle the straight-down-the-hill one! Let me know how you do on those basic shapes first!
Thank you very much for these helpfull intructions!
I have always wanted to learn how to fold an origami crane, but I always found the instructions too difficult. Now my freshly made origami crane is right beside me and I am so proud! Thank you!
@allisonrocks427 Did you start with the easier designs first? Remember origami is a skill so it's good to work your way up! Did you try the cup and the dove first?
@lisasheaorigami a skill? i didnt do either of the things you mentioned and i learned to do this in elementary school but i forgot and as far as i know i followed the exact same steps on every video and it came out looking like some cripple deformed bird with both wings on one side of its body
@cmsmiley13 Dear CMSmiley13 - Yes definitely learning how to manipulate tiny pieces of paper with exact folds and lines can be challenging to learn, and we often start with little kids because they have tiny fingers! It can be much harder for adults. I suggest practicing with the more simple shapes because that helps you get the alignment skills perfected, which are then necessary on this shape. Post on the other forms how you do there and we'll get you on the road to success!
@DUDEJUSTSTOPTALKING Did you practice with the other shapes first? Try the dove and cup and get those down they help teach some of the folds in an easier way. Good luck!
Thank you sooooo much!!!!!!!! I couldn't figure out how to do this by any other video because they wouldn't say what they were doing and were going wayyyy to fast! So thank you so very very much! I couldn't have completed my first crane without your vid! Thanks again!!!!!!
Really good instructions I was able to make 3 so far 2 by watching your video then one without having to watch it, the only time I had trouble with was at 2:50 when the square is flat on the ground and your turning it around I wasn't able to tell which way the opening was so I folded it backwards on my first one and had to go back a few steps but good instructions thanks!
Thank you so much for doing this for us. I have tortured so many paper squares to find a crane and I finally did! The origami instruction books show how to make a crane with ten lined illustrations. Impossible! You didn't have to do this. You must've known that there are people who would like to join the ranks of Origami Crane Makers. I'm glad to be one of the few. Thanks again.
God, thank you. My 16 year old friend Tia had a brain tumor and she had it removed and they found out that it probably was cancer related. I'm in Japanese (so is Tia) and my sensei, me, and two other students had decided to fold 1,000 paper cranes for her. Your video helped us tons. :) I hope the cranes help her feel better through her treatment. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for your excellant instructions - very clear and great to follow with all the angles seen.
Scray thinking of me trying to make 1000 of them though - I better not be in too much of a rush to make my wish - I think it will take me awhile. :) :)
I finally got it but, honestly, you don't make it easy. You forget that people are doing this for the first time. The first mistake is when folding the side points to the centerline, you don't explain which side points. Then at the end, instead of explaining how to turn it "inside out" you start explaining what to do if you messed up as you continue to do new steps without explaining them. You should have paused to explain if you messed up, then continued and explained what you were doing.
That was fun and relaxing. Got it right on the second attempt, smegged up at 2.45 with the first one. Still tricky to do with ordinary notepad paper though.
I assume the real origami paper is a sort of rice-paper?
Still, I'll probably will try to get some of that ''official''
origami paper. The finished product looks so much better with those fancy prints on them.
The main reason why I had some difficulty with the note-pad paper was the 3 by 3 inch size. (first thing I could grab when I saw your vid, just had to try it. :] )
Ok, i totally dont understand 4:32, my opening is on the opposite side? The end shes opening is a cone to me, with no opening.. do i do the opposite side instead?
Great lesson thanks! I had a hard time doing something, only because it froze and I was just folding, my crane doesn't sit up, but it's the second thing I've made in two days!
In fairness to Lisa, I should say that this is the best of the "make a crane" videos I've seen. I think Lisa is a good narrator and should consider re-filming the video to make the moves a bit more clear. Anyway, thank you Lisa!
I'm glad you worked through it! A crane is not the easiest shape. If you are new to origami, start with the easier shapes and work your way up to this one.
wow thanks lisa i too had problems at 4;30 but i realized that where yours opened up mine did not so i had to start over and fold in the opposite direction. i got it now! thanks so much!!!!!!
Yipee!!! OMGsh! Thank you!!! *hugs* I have been staring at the *&^%$# origami book for the whole night, and finally decided to turn to yuoutube ^.^ Thank you!!
Make the creases REALLY sharp. You should have a triangle set of creases. Then take the point of the flap of paper and pull it gently towards the other point. You will see the paper naturally fold along those creases.
The inside out part isn't shown as well as the other parts, but if you guys have enough paper, just mess around a little you'll get the end result ^^. I had to start over once, but luckily it was quite early on, so I only needed one piece of paper (I was shocked). Probably took me 20 mins, but I think, now, I can do it quicker!
The reason I used one piece of paper and the reason it was so easy for me: PRAYER. Seriously. lol
Benn trying it now for a few days and its going great untill i turn it "inside out", havent mastered that part yet, but its still fun to do and if I can get one just right I'm going to give it to my girlfriend
THis is the best so far, very clear untill the inside out part at 7 minutes thats when i lost it, but gonna try again and do my folds a bit better this time.
I have been looking in books and at other videos repeatedly... your video is the only one that was clear enough for me to follow!
I did it with plain paper for the first test run, but I plan to pick up origami paper soon. Having tried it now, I understand now why that works better. It's not just a crease, but a crease the will bend both ways. Normal paper doesn't do that.
Anyway, thank you so much! I've always wanted to know how to make a crane! XD
Absolutely awesome. Did it first time. The only slightly confusing part was the inside out fold right at the end but that was only because I didnt watch you properly.
Basically make 2 squares and then a kite, then another kite then end. I loved it. I am gunna practice until perfect and then move onto something harder :D ...
Excellent, I wanted to make one of these for my girlfriend as she loves prison break, so i followed this using a piece of A4 printer paper, which i squared off and it worked first time! Few little problems but easy enough to correct, thanks a lot!!!
You don't necessarily need origami paper to do this. You can measure copy paper or even wrapping paper to the right size (Usually 12 cm or 6 inches), and start folding. But you can get origami online (Ebay) or you can go to regular arts and crafts stores such as Michael's to get it. Good luck!
Go back to spot 2:12. Make sure the open side of your diamond is at the BOTTOM when you fold the left bottom edge in to the center line and the right bottom edge in to the center line.
I managed to get right up to 8.20 then got totally lost lol. And you're right it does go into a mush! I left plenty of space between the centre line though.
It sounds like you're new to origami :) Start with the cup, then the dove, then some of the other simpler shapes. When you come back here this will make much more sense to you!
if you're having problems with following the turning it inside out thing, you're probably doing it right, but its just difficult to do because the earlier folds are too close together, and will take some finesse to fold the other way. i didn't understand it either, but then i kinda just forced it to fold inwards and it worked!
This is a complex shape - try starting with the other shapes first - the cup, the fish, the dove and so on. Get those down. Then do this one again - and use *really* sharp creases. Watch what happens to the sides as you pull those points out slowly.
Manage to get there with the crane, will go to basics to get better though. I really am sorry for being rude in earlier comment, feeling really bad for that now! Videos really are very useful and muchly appreciated
Look at spot 4:42. Are you pulling the two parts gently away from each other? If you are using origami paper - and gave very sharp creases - then the two long sides of the diamond will fold towards the center along those creases. Are the sides folding in towards the center as you pull the two points away from each other?
If you feel they are not, then what are they doing? Paper does not stretch, so they must be moving in some direction as you pull the points apart. They cannot stay still ...
Make sure you crease your folds very sharply. You are causing your paper to fold on those folds you made previously. Also make sure you're using origami paper, so that it is thin enough to do the fold.
I am a total rookie and I found out that it is hard to find a video explaining how to make origami so good. In every video there is always a step I just couldn't follow but in your video I can see everything so perfectly.
It's ok to make origami with anything you want - some people use tin foil! Just keep in mind it will be more *challenging* to make it from regular paper. Origami paper is thinner than most papers and is easier to fold. So if you're up to the challenge, enjoy!
There are tons of sites online that sell them plus local craft stores too. I use pretty much all of them since each location has a different stock of paper. So start with your local craft stores since you can actually see what you're getting there.
I am a total newbie as far as origami is concerned and I find your video's excellent and honestly the only ones I can follow without making a mess. Thank you so much. gre

thanx alot.. i get it in the 1st time cauz of ur simple n great way of teaching! keep up the good work.
starfireisNOTugly 3 years ago
Arrgh I must keep doing it wrong cos at 4.50 I just have folds at the top & bottom.. so there's nothing to pull apart :'(
shamalicious 3 years ago
Go back to spot 2:12. Make sure the open side of your diamond is at the BOTTOM when you fold the left bottom edge in to the center line and the right bottom edge in to the center line.
lisasheaorigami 3 years ago
I managed to get right up to 8.20 then got totally lost lol. And you're right it does go into a mush! I left plenty of space between the centre line though.

It sounds like you're new to origami :) Start with the cup, then the dove, then some of the other simpler shapes. When you come back here this will make much more sense to you!

beautiful, i made smaller
lukepevensie 3 years ago
if you're having problems with following the turning it inside out thing, you're probably doing it right, but its just difficult to do because the earlier folds are too close together, and will take some finesse to fold the other way. i didn't understand it either, but then i kinda just forced it to fold inwards and it worked!

hmm... now to make 1000 of them so i can get a wish! ^_^

Thank you so much for this video! I tried so many tutorials, but I always got lost.
hawaiiatheart 3 years ago
I don't get the whole 'turning it inside out' bit at the end...
davidwoodrow79338 3 years ago
This is a complex shape - try starting with the other shapes first - the cup, the fish, the dove and so on. Get those down. Then do this one again - and use *really* sharp creases. Watch what happens to the sides as you pull those points out slowly.
lisasheaorigami 3 years ago
Manage to get there with the crane, will go to basics to get better though. I really am sorry for being rude in earlier comment, feeling really bad for that now! Videos really are very useful and muchly appreciated
davidwoodrow79338 3 years ago
sorry didn't mean to be so explicit, is just that its 1am and I shall now not sleep until I do this!
davidwoodrow79338 3 years ago
Yes!! :D Thank you, finally even I could do one

4 me it is a little to slow but i already no how to do it from my friend. he taught me to do a real cool dragon out of paper
ApplesAreSweet 3 years ago
If this one is too slow, I do have the "normal speed" version for you! This one is explicitly slow to help out newbies.

got lost in 4:30 even though i creased it perfectly i didn't understand that.
MissyPilipino 3 years ago
Look at spot 4:42. Are you pulling the two parts gently away from each other? If you are using origami paper - and gave very sharp creases - then the two long sides of the diamond will fold towards the center along those creases. Are the sides folding in towards the center as you pull the two points away from each other?
lisasheaorigami 3 years ago
no they arent
MissyPilipino 3 years ago
If you feel they are not, then what are they doing? Paper does not stretch, so they must be moving in some direction as you pull the points apart. They cannot stay still ...
lisasheaorigami 3 years ago
awesome! this is 5/5 go origami!

spikedmini0728512255 3 years ago 2
i get lost there too.
miaz2011 3 years ago
Make sure you crease your folds very sharply. You are causing your paper to fold on those folds you made previously. Also make sure you're using origami paper, so that it is thin enough to do the fold.
lisasheaorigami 3 years ago
uh hi i relly love your origami where can you buy origami paper cause im kinda running out
smartypants967 3 years ago
Pretty much all craft stores, like Michael's for example, stock origami paper!
lisasheaorigami 3 years ago
Your instructions are perfect!
I am a total rookie and I found out that it is hard to find a video explaining how to make origami so good. In every video there is always a step I just couldn't follow but in your video I can see everything so perfectly.
Thank you for adding this video!!!

is it oke to make origami with just regular paper? greetz
morphinrangers 3 years ago
It's ok to make origami with anything you want - some people use tin foil! Just keep in mind it will be more *challenging* to make it from regular paper. Origami paper is thinner than most papers and is easier to fold. So if you're up to the challenge, enjoy!

where do you buy origami papers??
8D
0RPG 4 years ago
There are tons of sites online that sell them plus local craft stores too. I use pretty much all of them since each location has a different stock of paper. So start with your local craft stores since you can actually see what you're getting there.

I am a total newbie as far as origami is concerned and I find your video's excellent and honestly the only ones I can follow without making a mess. Thank you so much. gre
