HPI's DM-1 is a kit so you can put in your own elecs. plus its 1/8 scale so you can actually race it. it also has a alum frame. it will do over 100+ and the kit starts at $260.. I can build it how I want it and it will still cost less and have a better warranty.

No, only to initially unlock it. After that, 100+mph! Traxxas makes their transmitters with upgrades in mind. The buttons/dials at the top of the transmitter are for their standard radio. The docking base that supports the iPhone/iPod is the accessory add-on, in this case, which happens to come stock with the XO-1 and other select models.
Ive heard that if you have a friend that has an iphone/ipod, they can unlock it for you. once its unlocked, it will run and its not tied to "only" the i-device.

This is meant for people with iphones which is dumb. Traxxas should've came out with a transmitter that can tell you how fast, the temp and all that. Its seems like this would be pretty cool for about an hour but how many times can you run it up and down a street. Its only in view for a few seconds at 70 to 100 mph. People are going to need to chase it in a helicopter to keep the hammer down for anymore then a few seconds or a chase car. Another road block is going to be where to run it. How much does it cost to rent a day at the Texas Motor Speedway?

One problem i see with this video. none of those passes were 100 mph in the video. since my jato does faster in video then that thing and it only goes 80 mph. unless my jato suddenly became 20 mph faster overnight i dont belive that he was doing 100 mph. maybe 50 cause i highly dought that they had it unlocked
You still have to give Traxxas some credit for not just slapping another shell on the same 'ol chassis and calling it a new car. The $1100 bucks is steep, but look what's inside: Two 3S 5000mAh batteries SADDLED, A mamba ESC and (thought it says traxxas) a Mamba Motor. Now I'm no mathematician, but those parts alone would normally retail at least around the $500 range alone... Not to mention you get a top of the line radio and a chassis specifically built for the car. Is that unfair?
@LS1Heli pick up the pieces and head to tower or amain cause I am sure your local shop is not going to be carrying all the things you brake at 100mph. The good thing about this is at those speeds the faster it goes the more it hugs the track. I guarantee you this thing probably creates enough down force that if you have a place to drive it upside down in a straight line and if you wanted to, then you could.
I have a rustler that go's a 100+mph for about 2yr's now, i told traxxas about it and they told me, why go that fast, and the forum's showed me no love on my setup and now traxxas is coming out with 100mph car. wow that's funny

@Flippit1303 and i'm guessing since you've already driven one you can tell us all about how it handles? i'm not excited that it requires any type of crapple product to unleash it's full potential but being a REAL rc enthusiats i can already see about 6 other types of car requiring (at the most) only different wheels and/or a chassis' designed specifically for whatever platform it's destined to be. within six months people will have turned this into every type of RC imaginable.
@viciousroadietom I've RACED R/C for over 20+ years. I know what will work and what wont. Yes, I have driven it, no, it is not going to beat a true race car imop. It does handle well but the throttle is touchy which can make it a hand full to those who are not familiar with rc. it would definitely have to be in its own class obviously for its 1/7 size but to expect it to corner like true breed racing rc cars would be a huge misconception. This is just my opinion and experience on this vehicle.

that is a neat design but will Traxxas integrate the ipod technology in there other cars? This is a real cool idea but the only problem I see is where would you run a car like this? I already have a fast car and Im having problems finding a descent place to drive it.
Just swap the TX/RX to go 100mph-yes you loose the telemetry but you won't have to buy an iphone/ipod touch to unlock it. A $35 GT3B is a lot cheaper then an iphone/ipod touch. I like the XO-1 but I'm not an on-road person. Hopefully they re-release it as an off-roader that goes 70mph.
dont you realize that if you get rid of the radio you still can't go 100 mph. The govenor is built into the esc. And it isnt possible to go 70 mph offroad and have any handeling. the electric speed govenor is in the esc. i just hope that the castle link programmer will work with it. but the govenor isnt in the radio but in the esc.
@guys2nv-Atleast hopefully someone will figure out a way to unlock it. I read a message from someone that said direct from a head honcho at castle said the castle link will not unlock the esc. It's totally a traxxas deal and castle has to protect themselves. You do only need to hook up an iphone/ipod touch 1 time to unlock it and your good to go-you don't need to own an iphone/ipod touch. Clearly if a jail break is found then your warranty goes bye bye. I really want that esc for my e-revo.

- I don't need to tell you what will happen when you crash at high speed. (you can check video on youtube of what happen to RC at high speed). If that ever happens, oooops! there goes $1100+tax.

@xxgg I'm thinking this is an on-road car designed more to bash, like most Traxxas models. The longer arms and larger size at 1/7 scale, slightly bigger than 1/8, is meant to make the car easier to control at speed and just have a day with on regular roads and not need a groomed track to open her up.
Out of the box it seems made for top speed runs. I bet with a higher down force body and/or wing, it'll be much better at "less fast", more track normal, speeds.
@LeMieux250 i'm sure it could be turned into any platform you'd want it to be with a tire change and/or a chassis designed for that application - just like the rest of thier cars.

Too pricey and not very good for anything but speed runs. I think im just gonna spend my money on the Axial EXO and put the money i saved into electronics that dont need an apple product to work at their full potential.
@rcmike311 it could been alot worse, the ipod dock could have been on the car and not the controller. on the up-side - you're going to be able to find these cheap once kids start crashing them and instantly losing interest in the hobby and throw it on ebay/craigslist to help cover the cost of being sued for breaking someone's leg off
Pretty cool...except the price tag and the fact you need an iphone or itouch to go full speed. And for $1,000, they really should have thrown in a balance charger for the lipo packs. Still an amazing accomplishment.

I have a rustler that go's a 100+mph for about 2yr's now, i told traxxas about it and they told me, why go that fast, and the forum's showed me no love on my setup and now traxxas is coming out with 100mph car. wow that's funny

I was all for it at first til they said you need a damn phone to unlock its true power. For the price, they have a iphone in the box with this. If they was goin to do something like that, they should've allowed the use of any smart phone as well. Now you gotta go out and buy a iphone. CRAZY!

WARNING!!!! For those of you who DONT know, the only way you're going to go over 100 mph with this is if you HAVE a IPOD TOUCH or IPHONE!!! So expect to drop ANOTHER $200 on top of the $1000 you paid for this P.O.S. that will only be worth going in a strait line. If you want to go over 100 mph in a strait line, strap a rocket to a cheap R/C car. Hell of a lot cheaper

@Flippit1303 and i'm guessing since you've already driven one you can tell us all about how it handles? i'm not excited that it requires any type of crapple product to unleash it's full potential but being a REAL rc enthusiats i can already see about 6 other types of car requiring (at the most) only different wheels and/or a chassis' designed specifically for whatever platform it's destined to be. within six months people will have turned this into every type of RC imaginable.

@viciousroadietom I've RACED R/C for over 20+ years. I know what will work and what wont. Yes, I have driven it, no, it is not going to beat a true race car imop. It does handle well but the throttle is touchy which can make it a hand full to those who are not familiar with rc. it would definitely have to be in its own class obviously for its 1/7 size but to expect it to corner like true breed racing rc cars would be a huge misconception. This is just my opinion and experience on this vehicle.

@Flippit1303 wow - you know what will work and what won't work, impressive. sadly, i've noticed 80% or more of the people in this hobby would also claim they know everything. most of them are under 15, own 2 RTRs, and just bought a lipo a week ago. you've driven it? how's that possible since neither the car or the app. have been released yet? sounds highly unlikely. it's also unlikely that you're going to see someone "not farmiliar with rc" attempting to run an $1100.+ car.

that is a neat design but will Traxxas integrate the ipod technology in there other cars? This is a real cool idea but the only problem I see is where would you run a car like this? I already have a fast car and Im having problems finding a descent place to drive it.

Just swap the TX/RX to go 100mph-yes you loose the telemetry but you won't have to buy an iphone/ipod touch to unlock it. A $35 GT3B is a lot cheaper then an iphone/ipod touch. I like the XO-1 but I'm not an on-road person. Hopefully they re-release it as an off-roader that goes 70mph.

dont you realize that if you get rid of the radio you still can't go 100 mph. The govenor is built into the esc. And it isnt possible to go 70 mph offroad and have any handeling. the electric speed govenor is in the esc. i just hope that the castle link programmer will work with it. but the govenor isnt in the radio but in the esc.

@guys2nv-Atleast hopefully someone will figure out a way to unlock it. I read a message from someone that said direct from a head honcho at castle said the castle link will not unlock the esc. It's totally a traxxas deal and castle has to protect themselves. You do only need to hook up an iphone/ipod touch 1 time to unlock it and your good to go-you don't need to own an iphone/ipod touch. Clearly if a jail break is found then your warranty goes bye bye. I really want that esc for my e-revo.

- A-arm sure is looonger for a On-road.
- $1100, sure you get some expensive electronics on there but it still is $1100.
- I don't need to tell you what will happen when you crash at high speed. (you can check video on youtube of what happen to RC at high speed). If that ever happens, oooops! there goes $1100+tax.
- Other than going straight,,, what can it do? They did bother showing.
- You need your own Speed Track. (haha)
- You need iPhone/Ipod to unlock? (hahahaha)

@xxgg I'm thinking this is an on-road car designed more to bash, like most Traxxas models. The longer arms and larger size at 1/7 scale, slightly bigger than 1/8, is meant to make the car easier to control at speed and just have a day with on regular roads and not need a groomed track to open her up.
Out of the box it seems made for top speed runs. I bet with a higher down force body and/or wing, it'll be much better at "less fast", more track normal, speeds.
Frankly, I'm sold.

Too pricey and not very good for anything but speed runs. I think im just gonna spend my money on the Axial EXO and put the money i saved into electronics that dont need an apple product to work at their full potential.

Pretty cool...except the price tag and the fact you need an iphone or itouch to go full speed. And for $1,000, they really should have thrown in a balance charger for the lipo packs. Still an amazing accomplishment.
