I still do not get it what religion has to do with creating an environment for science. In every culture there were smart people and in your comments you alyways mix that up. And you talked about Muslims and their contributions, even these contributions, which were mentioned here, came from pre-Muslim culture. And algebra was an idea of many intellectuals in different cultures and there is no true inventor.

You wrote that Muslims contributed to our world ...ok, but Babylonians were not Muslims and its a historical fact that a lot of Muslim philosophers used the knowledge of ancient cultures (like every culture did). And to say, that algebra was INVENTED by a Muslim, is not accurate. It was an idea which developed in different cultures.
I would never dare to say, that a Christian invented that or this...because the most inventions are based on THINKING, not religion.

If you care to read history well, Islam didn't develop science, math etc.., but Islam created an intellectual environment based solely on the Islamic concept of "seek Knowledge". Moreover, a good citizen would be defined by his/her level of education and knowledge. To achieve that, and under Islam, 270 universities were built in Baghdad alone in the 7th C. Ancient Mesopotamia was the birth place of Math and Babylonian Semites came to Iraq from the Arabian Peninsula. In Math, many cultures had one form or another of Algebra as a natural progression of math, but what we use today is Al Khwarizmi's Algebra, that's a fact.
