The last thing you said was the last thing I heard may be the greatest pop song of all time. Please excuse the word pop but if this had been released on it's own with a little longer version man O man1
I'd have to put Todd in that class of genius like Frank Zappa. Just too damn smart for most people to get. He was too smart to write cliche crap. One of my all time favorite musicians.
This song was inspired by the great Laura Nyro. Todd's personal friend and one of the most underrated artists of all time. But Laura's music will some day set things straight. Just like Van Gogh, she was way ahead of her time. If you don't know Laura Nyro's songs, start by listening " Stoned Soul Pic Nic" right here in You Tube.
@MrAlexAllan Someday Laura's music will set things straight. Beautifully said. And it reminds me of the great Rickie Lee Jones's own tribute to Laura. In an essay Rickie comments about Fox News and other bad things that Laura would surely have disapproved of and she says that someday they too will fade away. Laura's music evokes that kind of revolutionary spirit in me. By the way, I think Todd wrote a great ode to Laura here. The piano riff is fantastic.
@pnyc1969 Thanks for the comment. It's great to know Laura's music survives in the hearts of so many fans. There are fan clubs and a definite proof her music is that it keeps winning new listeners every day. The media circus is always trying to push the latest "megastar" who hardly has any real talent or enduring songs. Todd is another overlooked genius. I blame to the inept media the fact I only got to know his works pretty recently! OMG! They should play his music more often and every where.
@MrAlexAllan I knew Todd was inspired by Laura Nyro, but I never made the connection in the lyrics to this song. Anyway, I need to tell you that I did what you've recommended and I am now a Laura Nyro fan. Seriously, that was one of the best songs I've heard in a long while. TY. :)
