  • Today is the 26th of July and I captured a queen when it still had its wings and i put it in a jar and it has started digging a hole already to start a colony, if you want to start an ant colony then make sure tgat you;

Feed them with sugar, syrup or honey

Give them water every day and keep the soil moist or they will die overnight

Care for them and add soil if you need to and give them leaves or bits of bark to make their environment more suitable

Respect their right to exist, they are cre

  • @theslothfulone i found a queen fire ant in my house when i was on my computer yesterday loli gave it a big cheeto and it doesnt eat it i gave it sugar it still doesnt eat it and by the way i have it in my ipod case

  • @interVention559 they do have energy stores in their abdomens so you may not be able to fedd it until it has started laying eggs and needs energy to keep producing them however this is just a guess as I don't really know much about fire ant's, but I expect it's probably pissed off that it doesn't have anywhere to properly burrow. however it will eventually lay eggs regardless of where you keep it, don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with keeping it in a see-through container, after all...

  • @interVention559 ...people have done it before but when it DOES start laying eggs I would suggest putting it in a larger container, if you want more info. on fire ants then I would suggest looking it up but I hope what I've just said will help you.

  • @theslothfulone thx for the info but sadly my ant died :( his name was carl

  • @interVention559 thats too bad, how long did you have it before it died?

  • @interVention559 thats too bad, how long did you have it before died?

  • i couldn't help but imagine the looks the pedestrians gave you as you followed ants around with your video camera

  • i found an ant queen but it still has wings, is there a way to find a male ant to mate with it or...

  • @Jezzajamo male ants also have wings

  • once i saw a queen and it layed eggs... i think i even heard farts!

  • i wanna find 2 different queens and make battles after 3 months, and then get like 10 fire ant soldiers, they'll be like spartans in there! yeah that would be cool

  • Had a mad idea when reading Bernard Werber's Empire of the Ants yesterday. Can someone with an intelligent, experienced mind tell me if i can actually keep an ant colony in a well sealed, properly ventilated fishtank? Told you it was a mad idea. Can i keep at least a small colony? Thanks. I'm from Scotland BTW.

  • Dude im going to go on a hunt for the queen ant and Im going fucking kill it! I hate ants, they have no purpose on earth. The only insect that I still hate but don't mind theyre existence are bees, because they help pollinate shit.

  • @HOLLYWOODBOY818 No purpose on earth? You sir are wrong. They are natures garbage men. They clean up dead insects and animals. Every insect (even the most annoying) have a purpose on earth.

  • i would've lmao'd if u were filming and a bike ran over it XD

  • ass hole said The N word

  • how do you not mix drones up with qeens and how big are ghost ant qeens???

  • my way of getting a queen is kill all others then the queen will apear

  • i didnt know but now i see that is a queen i killed one yesterday

  • were can i find Lasius Niger

  • I cant step on cracks or lines... your pathway gives me the creeps!

  • NOOOOOO i finally found one, after searching is fking hot weather...and it fell into a pile of earwigs....and died >.>

  • do you see them every year?

  • it looks like to got the ant queen that i got at basket ball practice :/

  • lol i was playing basketball 1 hr ago and on the wall after destroying an ant farm a queen poped out lol i knew it was a queen so i put it in a bag and brought it home.

it trying to find a proper nest right now. but i keeps switching betwean them.

this guy gives info i say just pray to god that at any moment an ant queen will pop out. or just destroy a nest and waith for 20 mins. i got bit probably 30 times doing this

  • Be careful with Fire Ants! The larger the worker ( usually ) the more painful the bite!

  • The streets are covered in flying ants where I live! Theres no need to look my dog eats them

  • So... finding an ant queen is like finding a whore?

  • @oliver2555 Not at all. They mate once with one partner and they have enough sperm for the rest of their lifes and the oldest ant in capture was 31 years old (Lasius Niger, The black garden ant).

  • @Fridabeekman

Thank you for the information. I just tried to make an attempt at a funny comment. I learn something everyday. Thank you.

  • In Hong Kong, Many queen fly into my house during at night!

  • @aaa984 They wanna fuck on your bed!

  • i dont get it :(

  • Can you explain why if she carries another dead ant you don't pick up? It sounds stupid but I don't understand the "founding parasitic".

  • my queens are doing fine i have 2 queens with eggs and larvae i even have 2 habitat for them they are also same species but different size

  • If it's wings have dropped is it 100% certain it's fertilised? Also, if you catch it still flying, what's the chance it's been fertilised?

  • @Lkonae catching a "princess" still flying makes it a one in a million chance that you caught one that has mated but didnt realize/landed. On the other hand, picking up an already landed queen that shed one or two of her wings, you will have only one out of a hundred or a thousand that was not fertilized. Among them, though, some have other problems and will die, their nuptial flight too stressful, weak etc. In short: take one from the ground, after shedding her wings.

  • @NuptialFlight Thanks mate, you sure know your shit :)

  • Have you ever kept carpenter ants?Had a nu[tialflight of them last night got ten queens.

  • @carpetbeetle98 no. no experience with them. beuatiful animals though.

  • Question: Do They Bite?

  • @bugsd4 actually I don't know, whether they try. these are like 9 mm and their mandibles (the jaw) are so small that they can't make you feel their bite. you skin is so thick in comparison, it is like trying to carve an escape tunnel into rock with a banana. be careful though, since some ants may even sting or emit acid which can well irritate the skin or provoke allergic response, swelling, pain, etc. but these in the picture not so much.

  • @bugsd4 I've never had a new queen bite me. They are usually too timid. Common black ants DO bite, but aren't very painful. Larger ants however pack a larger punch.

  • if u cant be botherd to wait til nuptial flight season buy an ant farm get bout 20 to 40 ants they dont need a queen

  • @OverKillers666 the workers can live without a queen, yes, but it is different. and they will just die without new workers coming. it is like a body without a head.

  • one flew into me when i was tanning today,

    it has wings

    imma try make more

  • It's easy to find an ant queen. Just grab the one wearing a crown!

  • @Aivottaja lol

  • @Aivottaja you sir are full of win you earn a green hat or any other color of choice

  • @Aivottaja XD

  • after catpuring the queen how long is it before she lays eggs

  • @AMDEATH45 depends. if you do it all right (which is, right season, right species, right time), you can see the first small eggs within 24-48 hours. set them free when in doubt, since there might be queens that don't found on their own ("claustral"). they will not be happy with you, they need to find another ant nest to infiltrate.

  • also you are suppose to dig one up who wants a big hole in their yard if your a kid your dad would be angry

  • this was uploaded on my bday =)

  • hey i dont get it ?how to get a ant queen ?

  • @qq23860450 just keep your eyes open and pick one up from the ground when the time is ripe.

  • @NuptialFlight Heyyyy. I found an unmated queen (She still has wings) Do you or anybody else know how to capture a drone?

  • @NuptialFlight i would say aproximately 3 days ago the swarm of young queens happened i caught around 5 and stupidly put them in the same area (a clear plastic box filled with damp dirt about 8 cm deep ) the queens ended up having a fight to the death now there is one queen left and she has already laid a few eggs yesterday i also put in aprox 3 ant workers the species is lasius niger any tips on what to feed etc

  • @garsole2 i checked on the queen today and i cannot find her i think she might have dug underground and started laying eggs but i am not sure, however two of the workers have disapered but some of them pop up from underground i think that they have been with the queen but i am not sure as i cannot see under the dirt i put in it ,the colony i had in another clear box died i think it is because the queen was not laying eggs and the workers died out.

  • neh I'm planning on making my own ant farm..and I'm having a hard time finding a queen in the garden since they're mostly in the cracks of cement..but if i put a non mated female in an already filled ant farm, will it become fertilized and be the queen?

  • @yachiru0peanut No, she would never mate they must mate with a male with wings and by the time you catch one they might have died out. But I dont think they will mate under NONFREEDOM condition cause they might be too uncomfortable.

  • ive seen like 50 of them

  • SCARY!! having to dodge footsteps and even a passing bicycle to avoid being crushed! Good luck ant queens!

  • @ThePoopChef thank you :)

  • nice vid

    make one in the forrest

you could show Temnothorax and so on

maybe Ponera if you are really good at this!

  • Yes, let's see what spring and next summer brings!

  • please tell me how to catch an ant queen i never found one my whole life

  • Hi insect1997, didn't the video help?

  • When does the nuptial flight season start?

  • Normally at early summer, is when most species fly.

  • if you make like a farm do ant like eat anything??

  • woot, found 2 outside my house within 5 mins =]

  • lucky you!!all i found is the male and im sure the queen probaly have hiden..

  • haha i have six of them now.. i dont even know what im going to do with them :P

  • LMFAO!!! i guess she does, i dont know where else she'd cary it

  • I found a Queen ant on yesterday at school! I found it roaming around on the ground. =]

  • Hey I'm starting in the ant area . I found 2 queens a week ago but they never lay eggs. I live in Alabama and fall is just starting there are a lot of carpenter ants here but they take so long to become A big colony. Do you no any tipe of ants around here.

  • its takes months for them to lay eggs

  • this vid is exactly 1 yeaar old! hopefully i can find some in my area !

  • Queen ant is full of jizz.

  • 12cu294xxx, found, as in "found a colony" means to establish or create lolz :P

  • u use past tense to much its example: She will then *find* not found a colony lols

  • lols.... she's not looking for a colony... She is establishing one... hence "Found"

  • Males are very slim and leggy. The females do not lose there wings until they have been fertilized and ready to lay eggs

  • thank you

  • ive killed like 4 fire ant queens.

  • @Soldierman345

Bravo, good sir. For those unfamiliar with Fire Ants. They are not native to North America and are spreading too quickly, displacing other ants.

  • @Soldierman345 wow ur so tough u killed an ant

  • @6wweben he's a real soldier man XD

LOL bragging on youtube about his ant kills. XD

  • Comment removed

  • Are you sure that they are queens and not males or unfertilized queens?

  • How would I go about catching an ant queen? I live in southern Ontario, it's early August, and I'm pretty sure its Carpenter ants that I'm seeing around, if that helps. As well, I've seen your other videos, and it occured to me that I don't have access to test tubes. Anything else you could recommend? One last thing: do you have the precise measurements and ingredients for making gypsum plaster? I tried to "ballpark it", and it was a disaster.

    Thanks! :D

  • Carpenter ant queens are huge. But they dont make the best pet ants as it can take a carpenter ant colony 14 years to reach full size.

  • lol i got simple way just throw a water melon out w8 a while and come out with bug vacuum no harm done and they coem in full so u dont provide dinner for that day =)

  • o god are queen ants like 2 or 3 times the regular size of ants? I think i stepped on one outside... It was a black ant (not being racist just giving details)

  • lol we know ur not being racist and a young queen usually has a very large rump(abdemon)they grow larger as they progress in age

  • lol just making sure bcuz this chinese girl was saying something in chinese and she said "nigga" or something and this girl next to her got offended. o.0

omg yay! i thought i saw a queen ant with a big ass(or rump) but then thought it was like a large soldier or something D=

Can ants have wings? Like i saw a ant with wings and i smacked it down(thought it was a misquito) and broke off a wing... T-T

  • yes they have wingswhen they are in condition to lay eggs they will rip there wings off but look in the street like this vid says and im positive you will find one

look for it on a hot humid day around

    1 o' clock

  • Do queen ants walk on streets and alleys? My alley way is pretty big and Im hoping to find one there before i start collecting those small ants. I have a lot of them in my garden

  • where i live (texas)they have streets damn near everywhere so check the street but otherwise check anywhere on the ground where its humid and also hurry and get ur queens cuz the nuptial flight is almost over

  • Hello there awesomw videos :). To find an ant queen

1 dig around a nest and then put the whole nest in a container of plastic that doesn't let the ants get out (or siply a container with a top)

2 If you have dead flowers, dont forget to check in the dirt inside the flower pot.Thats how i found 7 queens today

3 if you are too lazy to dig, w8 for the nuptial flight months (July-August) and w8 to see a winged female getting impregnated or look under wood logs or big stones in your garden

  • NEVER DIG OUT AN ANT NEST!

    this is Terrible .

And the Chance to catch the Queen is so low ! You can even kill her.

Think of the nestless ants that you leave behind.

    Theyre dying slowly.

    PLS reimagine that.

  • There were 7-8 queens in that nest. Unbelievable but true. I captured 5 of them and the rest 3 are now in my antworks aquarium. They have laid plenty of eggs but they dont dig too much...

  • when you start with ants, you want some and you want them now, I get it. if you just want to watch them, get some workers and keep them at home. that doesnt hurt the nest so much. digging around is really ruining the day for those ants, just imagine how they took years to get there when you destroy this in a matter of minutes. picking up a queen in nuptial flight is the coolest way to start the hobby, my opinion!

  • yes listen to NupitalFlight he's Pro ^^

  • I agree that its better to do it this way from a moral point of view, but its extremely difficult i think. I tried to do that, i found like 20 males but no females, what are the odds of finding a queen before she digs in the ground?

  • Jezus dude there like 1.000.000.000.000.000.000 ants!!!

  • im back from my trip! she is stil alive, it does look as nothing happend in the week i was gone. at the place where i was i also saw ant queens running around XD

  • you schould have killed that bicth

  • woot i found one a couple of days ago walking around the street.

  • where find queen if she is digged in ground , and in what deep is she ? and u cant find queen on dirt becous they dig in ground

  • will they be on the dirt too, or just on the street or does it not matter?

  • sigh... ive looked everywhere for a queen ant and cant find one.. I've dug up ant holes, but i always loose the hole when i dig... i want the queen so bad...

  • Whoa whoa whoa.

I gues about 100+ those at my doorstep every night.

    Are those it?

  • over a week im on a trip for a week, can i leave my ant queen alone for a week? (i think its possiblle but for sure i wantr to know)

  • if she has a big bottom and already laid eggs she is probably founding claustral. You can leave her alone for weeks now and she will probably be fine.

  • Comment removed

  • my queen ant is a Lasius Niger. she already laid eggs on the second day and she is protecting them now in her own room

  • can you catch a queen ant and add it to a bunch of ants you have already caught?

  • this might work or not. depends on many things. for Lasis flavus I have a video - see at the right side under "Lasius flavus queen affiliation"
