I just feel that this is exactly what modular system owners do. They turn knobs like mentalists, and nothing really musical comes out of it other than random beep-boops-noise comes out of it.
I know its popular, but most of these noises, in my opinion, could be achieved by browsing through broken radio frequencies.
If you know how to use them currently, you can achieve some very interesting soundscapes. A lot of ambient/noise/industrial/electronic artists use this stuff.
A lot of guys usually will filter modulators through computer programs and add more texture to it.
I agree that he is doing this for a demonstration. But why do most demonstrations of modular systems have to be like this one, and not musical?
Its like you own a Ferrari, but you will only drive it at 40mph to "demonstrate" it.
Either its a lack of skill or musical ability, or sounds like these are what humor most people. Which is sad when they have these awesome machine at their hands.
i find it to have great energy and a refreshingly care-free musical wit.
raw, to be sure - but then he's not presenting any sort of finished composition now, is he?...no, he's just showing a variety of available sounds, and right quick.
