I love how you keep assuring us that we'll be doing it someday if we keep practising after a couple of weeks or so and don't rush it. Lol Anyway, thanks a lot xD this is helpful!
@Laukenpauken Yes of course, thats the correct way of doing since you have more control that way, but I wanted to show the barre version just so you see that you can do this as well.
hey dude, when u play the pentatonic scale, do u always cover the whole entire 5th fret with ur first finger at all times, even when pickin other strings? it looks like that in this vid and wouldn't that be pickin two strings then instead of one? kinda confused here
been messin with the guitar for abt a year. A keyboardist/pianist/organist by design but you can't beat the expression the axe gives. thanks for this helpful vid! I'm off to practice, YEAH ROCK ON!
Hey, great videos! Your the best! I had a question if your not too busy. If you hammer-on and slightly touch other strings on the back of your finger, but it doesn't effect the sound of the hammer on is that ok? I know I'm slightly touching other strings when I hammer-on, but I can only hear the hammer-on.
@johndeerishere It would be better if you get to the point where you only hit the string you are aiming for, it will come with practice. Just practice it over and over again, try being accurate, and it'll come with time.
anybody tested Sally Hansen's latest range of products?? there very decent , i keep on buy more and more :) did u know u can receive free of charge samples of make-up from "Gratis Makeup Samples". i received my samples on 30/09/2010.
@death251 They may not make it anymore. I originally bought it about 4 years ago, but have sold it since, so I can't even tell you the exact model number, sorry...

@kaiserCRG 7h9 = hold down the string at fret 7 with your first finger, pluck it and hammer onto fret 9 with your third finger.
9p7 = The opposite of the above, hold down fret 7 with your first finger and fret 9 with your third finger at the same time, pluck and pull off from fret 9 to 7.
@TomFontana okai i have a question: about the 9p7 thing, you pluck 9 and pull off 7 ryt? so if you pull off 7..are you still placing yur finger on the 9 fret when you play??or how about when a tab says 8p7p5,,,how do you play it??...pls reply :)
@saber7fatality Hey, 9p7 means you hold down fret 7 and 9, pluck (so you pluck fret 9) and pull off to fret 7, where your first finger is in place already. You don't pull off any further, or if you do, that would be this: 9p7p0
8p7p5 would mean that you hold down all the frets, so 5 with first finger, 7 with ring finger, and 8 with pinky, pluck to sound fret 8, pull off to fret 7, than pull that off to fret 5, where your first finger is waiting :-)
great lesson i favourt it it,,, i still ac dc with pluggin and its ok but way too fast ,, when i get these pull offs and hammer ons down it ll be way easier... the scale is cool to had that down before the vid was over xD anyway thanks for the lesson !
Hammer ons can be learned quicker, if you've been playing for a while already, you should have them sounding at the same volume as the initial pluck within a week.
Pull offs take longer, but keep at, watch that part of the lesson a couple of times, and make sure you don't just pull your finger off of the string, but you pull the string down slightly than let it go.
hey how did you do the hammer onns and pull offs at the end with out pickin the strings plzz did you just tap it as if the string has all ready been struck ifyou get what i mean plzzz thanx
Those were consecutive hammer ons and pull offs. The pull off goes to the open string, and the hammer on to the given fret. Add distortion as well, it really brings out the whole AC/DC feel :-)
Sure, I do it in this lesson. You have to just get your index finger position right, experiment with it. Move your finger over the edge of the fretboard, some people actually have their first joint at the edge of the neck. Also, you'll want to turn your finger slightly onto its side, that eliminates the grooves in your finger deadening strings. Watch my lesson on barre chords as well.
hm, when i try to do a hammer on on my guitar, it just cuts off the sound and becomes barely audible. is this normal because i'm not using an amp with a bit of distortion, and instead just playing on my Electric guitar like normal?
Well, pluging it in helps, but the sound shouldn't be cut off, it should be around the same volume as the pluck before it...
You probably just need to practice the technique a bit more, remember to come down straight and hard right onto the string with the tip of your finger.
yeah, i probably do need to practice, but i am going straight down and pressing it hard with the tip of my finger...
i have a fairly small amp (literally about 1 square foot high/wide, very portable) and the most it has is a boost button and of course the knobs for gain, volume, bass, etc.
i don't have a distortion pedal or anything like that, so...
It's ok, small amps are enough to practice on in the beginning. You don't need a distortion pedal, just press the boost button and adjust the gain. You can upgrade your gear later on, don't worry about it.
Well, in the video I do, just so you guys can see that it is possible. But under normal circumstances when playing, I wouldn't, I'd move my first finger along the strings as needed. Of course, sometimes you do barre 2-3 or sometimes even 4 strings if you want to play the different strings fast.
Tom Fontana ty for all the help I've become so much better at the guitar from ur lessons thanks alot!!!! I can play the blackbird by the beatles working on classical gas by mason Williams and dreamcatcher u helped so much keep it up!

OK, I'm a bit confused... the position that you've demostrated is the whole minor pentatonic? because on other places there are 5 positions which reminds a puzzle pieces...
This is just one of the shapes, the one I like to use to get beginners started. There are 4 other minor pent. shapes which you are referring to, you can see them on our website.
do you need an amp to do hammer-ons and pull-offs? I don't have an amp and I won't be able to afford one for a while, I can do 2nd fret to 3rd ok and 3rd to 0 but that's about it because I don't seem to get enough sound, any help? great lesson though!
If you have an electric guitar, you really need to get an amp, otherwise you won't really be able to enjoy your guitar playing to its full capacity.
I would suggest you look for a small used amp or a new mini amp, they go for around $30-50. It'll be enough to practice on in the beginning, and later on you can upgrade to a larger amp when you get a chance.
it's definitely harder with out an amp, but it is also definitely possible to do with out an amp, but the point of an electric guitar is for it to be amplified so, invest in that :P
