  • Best lessons ev0r :D

  • He seems a little bit shy.

  • practice makes perfect... but nobodys perfect... so why practice ?! XD

  • thunderstruck! \m/

  • I love how you keep assuring us that we'll be doing it someday if we keep practising after a couple of weeks or so and don't rush it. Lol Anyway, thanks a lot xD this is helpful!

  • @xXxIMMORTALxXx Yep, practice makes perfect, so keep on practicing and you'll get it soon ;-)

  • can i do this without baring my long finger?

  • @Laukenpauken Yes of course, thats the correct way of doing since you have more control that way, but I wanted to show the barre version just so you see that you can do this as well.

  • are you supposed to have a certain amp setting? because I have a cheap amp...all I have is volume, drive, bass, and treble..

  • hey i gotta question... hmm how do u train ur finger to have more power for a hammer on

  • @anakin159 Do lots of hammer ons, but also make sure they are precise, so spot on.

  • I have the same guitar brand! :D nice lesson

  • Is your guitar tune differently? That A minor pentatonic (5th fret) sounds the same as the G minor pentatonic (3rd fret) lol

  • Thank you. At last I found really informative video on hammer on's

  • what does 5p3 mean??

  • @Climbingblackbelt It means you have to do a pull-off from fret 5 to fret 3.

  • mine hammer on is not as load as your, i'm doing something wrong?

  • Is that a Sammick Guitar???

  • Holy fuck he's good!!!

  • MINS 9.00 OMGGGGGG

  • Thunderstruck!!! I know how to play it but not the hammer on way. This video really helped.

  • Why is it that when I play fret 3, it is the same as when you do fret 5

  • can you do hammer-ons with an acoustic guitar also?

  • youre talking too quick, saying Uhh too much and your voice is low.. was quite hard to follow :/

  • what kind of guitar is this? :)

  • Thanks for these vids man, they helped me out alot.

  • Thank you very much

  • Fantasitc

  • hey dude, when u play the pentatonic scale, do u always cover the whole entire 5th fret with ur first finger at all times, even when pickin other strings? it looks like that in this vid and wouldn't that be pickin two strings then instead of one? kinda confused here

  • been messin with the guitar for abt a year. A keyboardist/pianist/organist by design but you can't beat the expression the axe gives. thanks for this helpful vid! I'm off to practice, YEAH ROCK ON!

  • Perfect! Thank you so much!

  • How much is membership to your site m8???

  • @rhythm2007mc It varies from $1 to $54 based on which package you go for.

  • Hey, great videos! Your the best! I had a question if your not too busy. If you hammer-on and slightly touch other strings on the back of your finger, but it doesn't effect the sound of the hammer on is that ok? I know I'm slightly touching other strings when I hammer-on, but I can only hear the hammer-on.

  • @johndeerishere It would be better if you get to the point where you only hit the string you are aiming for, it will come with practice. Just practice it over and over again, try being accurate, and it'll come with time.

  • can barely hear what you're saying!

  • THUNDERSTRUCK!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've got a friend who is a beginner at guitar and I'm trying to teach him. This video is fantastic. Thanks alot!

  • now i understand how to pull off and start rocking !! thnks man!

  • so wait if its 0 h3 and thats the open thing and hammer on at fret 3. what if it just says h3 is that the same thing as 0 h3?

  • Best hamemr-on tutorial i have found, but whenever i do it it's incredibly quiet compared to the previous note (hammer-on)

  • lol. And i was actually plucking the wire when lifting my fingers. hehehehehe . good tutorial my man.

  • tom i love u:D u r really very good!! hope i can be like u!! my teacher!

  • thank you for the tutorial i learned so much with it

  • thank You!

  • okay no problem, thanks anyway!:D

  • hmmm, i cant seem to find it on the greg bennett website.. wad model or series is it?

  • @death251 They may not make it anymore. I originally bought it about 4 years ago, but have sold it since, so I can't even tell you the exact model number, sorry...

  • thanks! great vid(: btw, wad brand is your guitar?

  • @death251 This one is an inexpensive Greg Bennett guitar, they are great quality for a decent price.

  • ur vids really help me out!

  • Thank you!

  • and this works for acoustic guitars too right?

  • @AlazarMarkose Yes.

  • how do u play a hammer on or pull off when the tab says 7h9 or 9p7?

  • @kaiserCRG 7h9 = hold down the string at fret 7 with your first finger, pluck it and hammer onto fret 9 with your third finger.

9p7 = The opposite of the above, hold down fret 7 with your first finger and fret 9 with your third finger at the same time, pluck and pull off from fret 9 to 7.

  • @TomFontana okai i have a question: about the 9p7 thing, you pluck 9 and pull off 7 ryt? so if you pull off 7..are you still placing yur finger on the 9 fret when you play??or how about when a tab says 8p7p5,,,how do you play it??...pls reply :)

  • @saber7fatality Hey, 9p7 means you hold down fret 7 and 9, pluck (so you pluck fret 9) and pull off to fret 7, where your first finger is in place already. You don't pull off any further, or if you do, that would be this: 9p7p0

8p7p5 would mean that you hold down all the frets, so 5 with first finger, 7 with ring finger, and 8 with pinky, pluck to sound fret 8, pull off to fret 7, than pull that off to fret 5, where your first finger is waiting :-)

  • @TomFontana ohhh~~thank you thank so so ever so much!!!thank you for replying and all i have to do is practice :DDD

  • great lesson i favourt it it,,, i still ac dc with pluggin and its ok but way too fast ,, when i get these pull offs and hammer ons down it ll be way easier... the scale is cool to had that down before the vid was over xD anyway thanks for the lesson !

  • hey when you do the hamer ons and pulls offs at the end what song is that off plzzz

  • @SuperMetalmad Its Thunderstruck by ACDC

  • i cant understand the diagram

  • hey what is that song your doing at the endplzz where you do all the ammer ons and pull offs i cnt think of whre i hurd it :) ty for all the help

  • WOW thanks for this video it has helped me a lot! The directions are so clear not like Expert Village.

  • hey thanx for all the help :) and im just wondering what would be a good song to to start learning plzzz thanx :)

  • Hey, go onto our website and you'll find a bunch of songs to learn under the guitar lessons section, most of those songs are suitable for beginners.

  • Whenever I hammer-on its not loud enough. How long do u think it will take me to perfect the hammer ons and pull offs.

by the way, u r an awesome teacher

  • Hammer ons can be learned quicker, if you've been playing for a while already, you should have them sounding at the same volume as the initial pluck within a week.

Pull offs take longer, but keep at, watch that part of the lesson a couple of times, and make sure you don't just pull your finger off of the string, but you pull the string down slightly than let it go.

  • hey how did you do the hammer onns and pull offs at the end with out pickin the strings plzz did you just tap it as if the string has all ready been struck ifyou get what i mean plzzz thanx

  • Those were consecutive hammer ons and pull offs. The pull off goes to the open string, and the hammer on to the given fret. Add distortion as well, it really brings out the whole AC/DC feel :-)

So the tab would look like this:

    h5-p0-h9-p0-h5-p0-h9-p0........ and so on...

  • is this a special programm which recognizes the notes you're playing or did you time the graphic below just that well?

  • I'm confused

how do you use the scale in a solo

  • thank you!!! I'm getting my electric guitar next month can't wait!! nice video by the way.

  • hey is there a way to hold down all of the strings because i cnt seem to do it for eg like holding all the strings down on the fith fret

  • Sure, I do it in this lesson. You have to just get your index finger position right, experiment with it. Move your finger over the edge of the fretboard, some people actually have their first joint at the edge of the neck. Also, you'll want to turn your finger slightly onto its side, that eliminates the grooves in your finger deadening strings. Watch my lesson on barre chords as well.

  • hm, when i try to do a hammer on on my guitar, it just cuts off the sound and becomes barely audible. is this normal because i'm not using an amp with a bit of distortion, and instead just playing on my Electric guitar like normal?

  • Well, pluging it in helps, but the sound shouldn't be cut off, it should be around the same volume as the pluck before it...

You probably just need to practice the technique a bit more, remember to come down straight and hard right onto the string with the tip of your finger.

  • yeah, i probably do need to practice, but i am going straight down and pressing it hard with the tip of my finger...

i have a fairly small amp (literally about 1 square foot high/wide, very portable) and the most it has is a boost button and of course the knobs for gain, volume, bass, etc.

i don't have a distortion pedal or anything like that, so...

  • It's ok, small amps are enough to practice on in the beginning. You don't need a distortion pedal, just press the boost button and adjust the gain. You can upgrade your gear later on, don't worry about it.

  • hey nice vid :) erm when you do the pent scale do you hold your first finger on all fife strings on the 5th fret plzz

  • Well, in the video I do, just so you guys can see that it is possible. But under normal circumstances when playing, I wouldn't, I'd move my first finger along the strings as needed. Of course, sometimes you do barre 2-3 or sometimes even 4 strings if you want to play the different strings fast.

  • are u not playing different notes to what is on the pent chart?

  • nope

  • Tom Fontana ty for all the help I've become so much better at the guitar from ur lessons thanks alot!!!! I can play the blackbird by the beatles working on classical gas by mason Williams and dreamcatcher u helped so much keep it up!

  • Your vid is awesome just one thing. Whats with all the uhs? nothin major and im not makin fun just askin

  • Uhmmm... :-) we recorded these early in the morning and I had a gig and a couple of beers the night before, so I was a bit tired.

  • Excelent!!!!

  • I Suscribe

    THANKS!!

    10000000/5

  • hey mr. Tom nice lessons...actually all your lessons are:) but i would really appreciate it if you make a lesson on soloing and how we spice it with pentatonic scales and arpeggios.thnx alottt):)

  • i can do everything in this lesson apart from the backwards pulloffs : (

  • any chance you will have a lesson or a video showing how a distortion pedal works? looking at Getting one but i dont want to get one and then find out that i didnt need it :)

  • is that a prs?

  • Omg that was so awesome!

  • can we play an electric guitar without speaker or amplifier?

  • Well, basically yes, but you wouldn't want to. The whole point of a solid body electric guitar is the amplifier, and the sound you get out of it.

You can buy small amps perfect for beginners for around $30, and upgrade later on if you choose to.

  • @MegaSharprazor Go to TABABUNGA . COM There we have guitar video tabs with the tablature to go with the video, anyone can upload videos and tabs TABABUNGA THE YOUTUBE OF GUITARISTS

  • thanks for the video man and it was 2 days after my birthday... your videos really help me thanks =)

  • my pleasure :-)

  • hey wats the name of the song by ac dc played in the beginning?

  • The intro has Back in Black under it, than later I play Thunderstruck.

  • THANK YOU TOM! your videos are great and have helped me out alot

  • My pleasure, I'm glad I could help :-)

  • you played the intro to thunderstruck

  • :-D

sorry about that, but at least it keeps you awake if you want to learn at late hours ;-)

  • what model is your guitar, really cool!

  • OK, I'm a bit confused... the position that you've demostrated is the whole minor pentatonic? because on other places there are 5 positions which reminds a puzzle pieces...

  • This is just one of the shapes, the one I like to use to get beginners started. There are 4 other minor pent. shapes which you are referring to, you can see them on our website.

  • mmm... that's for standard E tuning right... anyone knows the format of the pentatonic scale or the notes for a Drop B guitar?

  • 5:25 LOL Guita

  • do you need an amp to do hammer-ons and pull-offs? I don't have an amp and I won't be able to afford one for a while, I can do 2nd fret to 3rd ok and 3rd to 0 but that's about it because I don't seem to get enough sound, any help? great lesson though!

  • If you have an electric guitar, you really need to get an amp, otherwise you won't really be able to enjoy your guitar playing to its full capacity.

I would suggest you look for a small used amp or a new mini amp, they go for around $30-50. It'll be enough to practice on in the beginning, and later on you can upgrade to a larger amp when you get a chance.

  • oh cool thanks, I didn't know you could get 'em THAT cheap!

  • yeah, check out amazon for new ones, or craigslist for used ones in your area, they always have some.

  • it's definitely harder with out an amp, but it is also definitely possible to do with out an amp, but the point of an electric guitar is for it to be amplified so, invest in that :P

  • This is the best lesson :D 9:00 -

  • I have to learn that damn it

  • I got kind of short finger, so the Pentatonic Scale is har for me to reach. But I won't give up :P

  • DAmn good lesson, yo.

    Respect,man.

  • wow im better than you chek out my vids pal

  • cool

  • *THUNDERSTRUCK MAN! u rule i learned so much :D

  • ac dc is the best
