  • I have same 97 stock and goes far past 112. Dont think I had it much past 120, as its my daily driver

  • should go get your car checked cause i got same car with 10 grand under the hood and it still does 112 because THE REV LIMITER stops it there. to go past 112 you needa get it dynotuned which would make your car unstock. so get your facts straight and your car looked at haha

  • good video also lookin at one of these cars and very helpful info in the comments.

  • not hatin, but my 97 max pulls faster gettin to 140 than u did gettin 120. did somethin happen to that car, cause mine is completely stock

  • I have taken mine to 130 racing a honda accord 2door coupe nailed em..... and it wanted to keep going....pushin!!! love it!!!

  • I use royal purple oil and have a K & N air filter and get over 10 extra horses!

  • if yall install a piggy back racing chip u can get a max to do over 150mph.. did it with my 1999 gle...... b4 it crash.. ma ex could handle da power

  • holy shit! i have issues getting my 97 up to 110, impresive, you must take good care of it

  • agreed with kingofquartz

i also live in seattle but i got up to 120 in my 96 with overdrive off, bone stock.

  • My maxima stops accelerating aftr 110mph its an auto, autos suck so im planin 2 swap d tranny wit a stick

  • If its stops at 110 then something else is wrong. The auto should bog down at about 116, if you take the overdrive off and allow it to redline before taking over drive off then it should be good for around 135mph.

  • I really dont know tried everything, d last time it passed 120 wz d previous winter. I am thinkin of spoonin a B18 with a stick. thats worth than putting a manual tranny in there

  • You my good sir have something we call a governor which limits the top speed of your car good thing i have an SE which doesnt have one.

  • Its not a limiter. The autos will sometimes bog down around 116 because they shift into 4th at too low of a RPM.

If you take the OD off and let it hit 120 then hit turn OD on then it will shift into 4th with more revs and will carry all the way to 135-140ish.

Just one of the pain in the asses of the auto tranny.

  • This all depends on how strong your motor is. We are talking about cars that are over a decade old.

Some just dont have the power left in them to get above 110.

After I installed 00VI on mine.. it had plenty of power to get to 140 without using the OD off trick.

  • Only the GXE's stop at 110. The SE and GLE go 140-something

  • I have a 97 Maxima GXE, and I love it to death lol, I pamper it like crazy, and I only have 96,000 kms on it

  • I have an automatic 1997 nissan maxima and mine stops accelerating at 112 mph. Yours must have been a standard.....

  • got my 99 maxima up to 115mph.

    then got pulled over.

  • I WOULDN'T DARE do that on my 96 Max Cause my car is VERY unsafe. The rear axle bounces WAY too much. Swerves too much (lacks stablizer bars). I can kill myself when the car starts swerving and loses traction and hit a pole. Although I DEFINITELY would NOT doubt my car can go 130+

  • Smart.

  • Well your really not supposed to go that fast well at least the GLE and GXE models. The tires are rated to go about somewhere between 106-116MPH so i don't think its a good idea unless you have v or better rated tires.

  • yea and on top of that the SE can do it easily, I feel fine with my kuhmo doing 120!!

  • can you mix premium with regular in a 97?

  • Im sure you can.

  • nissans can take some big damage, I gave it some beatings over a 4 period month ( to much cervesa's *cough*) but I'm a little afraid to overheat this baby though its just the outside body, what tires should be good for street?

  • some mickey thompson et streets are awesome all year tires :)

  • I have a 1997 GLE. Although its automatic, it can go up to 140 mph. I live in north central California. I was driving up highway 99 one time and I let the maxima go up to 130. Damn was that fast...

  • i have a 98 with headers and some bolt ons and at 6400 in last ive clocked 144.3 exactly

  • thanks for posting such a great video. Highest i have taken mine was 100 or so (could go faster though) It is nice to know that a maxima can do 130 and probably over...

    BTW, is it stock?

  • thanks. yeah its stock.

  • also, gets pretty good gas mileage. Too bad it only requires premium gas...

  • well it my sisters car and she just fills up on regular, and it still runs to this day...

  • i once filled up with regular and suffered terrible gas mileage and the car rattled...

Now, premium all the way even though it's a 95 and has many miles.

  • Really? The instruction book for the 1997 says it recommends premium, but it can take other octanes too. Premium just gives better performance.

  • i always go with premium... at the end i am really not saving anything... just putting my engine in greater risk...

  • Whats the risk if you use premium? I always use regular and the car has run just fine. I am in college, so I don't usually buy premium. I would love to use it more often, but I can only afford it every blue moon. Does using regular put the engine at risk or soes using premium put it at risk? I need to know, because if using regular isn't good, although the manual says its ok, then I need to change what fuel type I use... if its that detramental to the engine...

  • I ran ethenol for about 6 months then a gas sensor "mind is off right now" went bad BECAUSE of using eth and in turn led to a 13mpg before i got it fixed. Use 91 octane its like 10 cents more.

  • Thats the middle octane, usually, right??

  • You should use 91 at the very least. 93 can be found but here where I live it all has ethenol - in our cars it fails. So 91 is the minimum you should use you can mix it if you're not driving it dumbly with say 87 then 91 then 87 / 91. It will just help your car last longer. kinda like using better oil.

  • So I can mix 87 and 91? Because Friday I am going to be filling up, so then I am going to use 91. I am getting rid of all the 87 thats inside the tank right now.

  • You have scheduled fill up days lol??

You can mix it. If you can find 93 that would be better. We are suppose to use premium only in our cars 91+ no ethenol. You'll get better mpg out of it too. better overall reponse from the vehicle and it wont feel sluggish. Drive around with pure 91 in your tank for a while then drive around with 89 just once and you'll feel and hear the difference the motor will be louder. if you put ethenol in it...well you will really notice that.

  • LOL! Don't make fun! :D I've got a hectic schedule and few dollars, so I time everything.LOL! :D I will start off with 91 tomorrow. Hopefully I will have enough money to do 93, but I hope 91 will be okay for now.

  • Oh I see. Yeah 91 will be okay I just put 87 in my car today if that makes you feel anybetter? Although i have a VI swap and run mad rich w/ no tune so far so I will burn up this 87 by tomorrow on my way to school ;)

  • I just out in 91 today. So far, the changes in the gears feel more smoother than they did with the 87. I went to Chevron.

  • no Premium is just recommended for best performance IE powe....r when you put in regular the engine it senses it and just retards the ignition timing u make less power but its harmless to your engine. and only 09 maxs and it require 91+ @Hazafan88

  • @bignin102 actually I thought the same with the regular gas...put PREMIUM into it. What happens is it causes the knock sensor to over compensate because regular fuel burns at a lower temperature than the higher octane, so when the air and fuel mixture goes in, it'll end up chocking itself out because it;s causing it to pre-detonate your cylinders which you'll feel misfires. This can screw up your pistons and the cylinder if you do it long enough.. don't learn the hard way like I did!!!

  • @bignin102 my 97 maxima requires premium fuel...

  • i get out of my driveway doing 130 on my maxi.

  • sick dude. which do you think is better, the '97 or the '98? im thinking about buying one myself

  • i really dont know. i like my 97. i dont know if there is a big difference between the 2. but i dont know much about cars

  • 1997's definitely. I am not saying that just because I have one, but because I have had a 1998 as well. I think the 1997's handle better.

  • What? It was literally 100% the same exact car rofl.

  • Chill man. It was just an opinion. Just an opinion, not a fact, thats all. You obviously feel different....

  • No it is a fact that they are 100% the same car how could they handle differntly? Like there is literally no way unless say. When you drove these different cars, I'm assuming the 97 must have had less miles or OR he had replaced his stock struts and had newer tires? But there is no way that it would handle better since they are 100% exactly the same car.

  • Yeah. It must've been the mileage.... Because the 97 only had 5,000 on it.

  • i wreckd my 2000 maxima se around a 25 mph corner. some asshole cut me off

  • Is that your seat belt light on? If so you are doing 130 mph without a seat belt?

  • no, this maxima has been crashed before a few times, replaced the tranny three times,... its been through a lot. i think its the check engine light... or the air bag.

  • You are right, I went out to my car and checked it. It is the check airbag light. Mine is a 97 with original engine and tranny but can still post up to 137 mph (highest I have dared gone since I almost lost it at that speed on a slight curve).

  • i was in the backseat right there.. =D
