I doubt Switchfoot would ever sing about their political ideas, it's not who they claim to be. And I have yet to see them write a song that goes against who they claim to be.
well, there will always be war and hurt as long as the world leaders dont believe and follow God, which they never will. Every "countries" for themselves, slipting people in groups and start confilcts for what ever reason they can think of. so the only world peace we can find is in heaven, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try and be those few that remind of others there are still good on this Earth.
I've seen him perform this live on several occasions and he is talking about our country (USA) and our politicians. He says it before this song is played - every time. Sorry to disappoint anyone who believed otherwise.
@wilderm88 no lol. I have never heard him say this at a show before playing this song. I've always heard him say what I stated above. Either way, one of my MOST favorite tunes.
This song can be interpreted as political, but it's actually talking about how Heaven is a land without borders, politicians, an agenda, and the only one really trustworthy enough to be pledging allegience to.
@aperfectcircle007 oh sorry bro, I didn't really mean for my comment to be offensive. That comment can be informative to anyone who actually thinks it's anti. Sorry my bad man
@aperfectcircle007 look at a live version of this song, jon always says that this isnt anti-bush and this isnt anti-war and this isnt anti anything. this is about how we are being politicians only looking out for ourselves and talks about the coming of the kingdom of the heavens as @CoryThomure had already said
@aperfectcircle007 There's a vid of Switchfoot doing this song live and Jon Foreman says that the song is about the coming of the Kingdom of Heaven. "Watchin' for my sky to get torn apart" is in reference to where the bible says that Jesus will split the Eastern sky at his second coming.
people own thier land and shoudnt have to pay the government for that. the system is broken. we are losing rights to stuff goverment pockets. the system is colapsing. go ahead call me an anarchist, but i speak the true rights of a human. right now we are caged animals.
this song is deep. it promotes my beleifs for what the United States should be. we should have everyone who is affected be able to vote on laws. putting that power in the hands of greedy bigshots is deadly. most politicians are. i beleave we should have an option of if we suport the government or not. if we chose not to pay taxes then we lose some benifits such as voting and health care.
This song is the reason I started playing guitar. When I was 13 I listened to it over and over on my iPod on the way to school, the riff is amazing. I just kinda thought "hell, I can do that" =D Four years later and now a metalhead and guitarist/vocalist in 2 bands, I never forget my roots.
@MichaelaHighVideos That's probably because they don't suck...just because you don't like them does not mean they "suck." That just means you're a hater.
I don't think this song is directed towards George Bush. That was a bad idea to put his photo in here, and certainly disrespectful. He is taking about us!
You're right, for example he says "I'm the problem, I'm the politician." I consider it in the same vein as "American Dream," it's chafing against the materialist, political culture in this country. It's about unity, not divisiveness. I did laugh when Bush's head popped up; I don't think it was as disrespectful as Bush's politics (especially his approach to the environment). But no, the song is not targeted at him specifically. It is about us!
@akdoc11 - Ditto! Even though I did not agree with a lot of his political strategies (well, actually those of his advisors), I find this move (using his photo for a personal anti-political statement) rather ill-mannered as well.
the song is addicting...i cant stop listening to it probably because of how true it is...switchfoot is the best, they grabbed the theme and overall emotion perfectl... GO SWITCHFOOT YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!! XD
I don't know anymore how many times I have listened at this song and every time it feels just as good and not just this song. Switchfoot is probably one of the bast bands I know. They really know how to make good songs which tells us something each time. It's just so sad that I don't think they will ever come in tour on Finland.
this song is addicting hahaha lost count of how many times i've listened to it in a rowm Foreman is such a talented song writer, and he comes up with amazing songs like this, truly great
i just wanted to say that they arent a christian band all of them are christians but jon says that "Christianity is a faith not a genre" and they dont like to single anyone out they want to be open to every one i'm not trying to be rood but thats why most of there newer songs dont just straight out say there christians but there music always hints and if you think about it you can tell there christians. i didnt want to be mean or anything i just wanted to let you know and great video they rock
wow i ran out of text in that coment lol. oh switchfoot is amazing there my favorate musicians and i base all of my music on them they inspired me to become a musicians especally Jon is an amazing musicians. there are all really skilled. rock on
I'm pretty sure that anyone who has a decent interest in the band has already been told that they're not technically a Christian band, but it's just easier to shoehorn them into that genre since they fit there too.
Ya but in most places if u look at the Christian music inventory, Switchfoot is the first recomendation They fall under Christian, Rock, and Inspirational music
if you listen to some of the songs you will hear very christian lyrics, and they may not totally be about christian, but at least they dont sing about shootin' it up while smokin weed in a shack with 4 whores
"I pledge allegiance to a country without borders, without politicians"
that line right their pretty much says it all, what country can you think that has no borders of politicians. Gods kingdom has no borders, every one can come and experience Gods love.
also i just found out yesterday that stars is talking about God almost the whole song
switchfoot does a lot of this metaphoric stuff in their songs, you just have to listen
I LOVE switchfoot dont label them theyre for an anything nd everything band k plz just leave it that way NON LABELS thats the prob they so commonly speak of! goodness and if u love switchfoot leave them alone NO LABELS let everyone every type of person listen to them and lve wat they stand for and thats so many amazing things no matter wat reilgous aspectits based on just focus on the message not where it comes from =]
