Disaster relief and protecting civilians, both countries have had what could be called civil wars and there where plenty of militia running around with things from machetes upto old Steyr's we had given them years before.
In East timor we also had a few small fights with Indonesion troops and supposedly killed a few though neither govt admitted it.

Yes the TNI is after all only really experienced in internal security Ops, against local factions or unhappy civilians. Any credible foreign force is going to put the wind up them.
As for contacts, yes there were some between TNI and ADF troops, but mainly militia. The TNI wanted to have a go, but the US had MEU Pacific off the coast with 20,000 marines on hand to intervene if Mr Indon grew some balls and had a shot at us. It was a good experince and valuable learning curve for the ADF given the large size of the Op.
Canada is not in the latest Iraq conflict. We were in Desert Storm as it was a UN mission. The latest war was not UN sanctioned so Canada is not involved in that US war. We are in Afghanistan b/c it is a UN sanctioned action.
Canberra supported the original Indonesian takeover of E.T. when the Portuguese gave up their colonies. They didn't want a political vacuum. And Indonesia was happy to share the mineral resources with Australia. It wasn't until the situation deteriorated and the so-called DSP, pseudo-leftist protesters called for our troops to go in that Howard knocked back the Indonesians.

they didn't liberate it. They just transferred ownership. It was prearranged. Were there clashes between the Australian and Indonesian armies? No. Last I recall the ownly people attacked by us Aussies were refugees in Dili protesting at having their homes demolished.
East Timor is Australias imperial vassal state. And the last Prime Minister was kicked out for not handing over most of the oil to Canberra.

Disaster relief and protecting civilians, both countries have had what could be called civil wars and there where plenty of militia running around with things from machetes upto old Steyr's we had given them years before.
In East timor we also had a few small fights with Indonesion troops and supposedly killed a few though neither govt admitted it.

The only American unit which would operate similar to Australian SASR were the Green Berets.

Australian soldiers have about a minimum of 2-3 years of training were the standards of compassion, endurance and mateship are drilled in. As for contacts, yes there were some between TNI and ADF troops, but mainly militia. The TNI wanted to have a go, but the US had MEU Pacific off the coast with 20,000 marines on hand to intervene if Mr Indon grew some balls and had a shot at us. It was a good experince and valuable learning curve for the ADF given the large size of the Op.

Canada is not in the latest Iraq conflict. We were in Desert Storm as it was a UN mission. The latest war was not UN sanctioned so Canada is not involved in that US war. We are in Afghanistan b/c it is a UN sanctioned action.

they didn't liberate it. They just transferred ownership. It was prearranged. Were there clashes between the Australian and Indonesian armies? No. Last I recall the ownly people attacked by us Aussies were refugees in Dili protesting at having their homes demolished.
East Timor is Australias imperial vassal state. And the last Prime Minister was kicked out for not handing over most of the oil to Canberra.
