The dry bearing noise is a high-pitched, near sqealling sound. Lubing periodically may not be the answer for the bearings making these noises. Also, if the grease zerk(s) are plugged, little or no lub may be making it into the bearing. Also, worn bearing seals can allow grease to exit the bearing without fully wetting the inside. Without a physical inspection, it's impossible to be sure, only the sound is evidence.
Also, the hydraulic power is too limited for the saw's cutting pressure - more.
The main thing, from my perspective from my career with industrial machinery is the over-force being exerted on the equipment. Not that the steel framework is inadequate - it appears adequate - under-power and uncontrolled loose material that may cause equipment jamming would be my focus.
Safety? This contraption has so many engineering no-nos it's dangerous to even watch! Even the video sound picks up noise from way overworked and dry bearings! Hope nobody gets killed by this junk!
@claudius2u where are the overworked and dry bearings? everything is greased every 10 hours of machine run time, it takes 2 tubes of grease to hit all the bearings properly
Does the big circle blade have cross-cut inserts? Do they make such a thing? I'd imagine that 99.9% of all circular saw blade inserts are for a rip cut. I'm a band saw guy. Don't know much (enough!) about the big circle mill stuff. Nice setup!
@dinieXx Those useless blocks as you so call them is what America was built on. Without lumber, America would never have become what it is today. America would never have been found. The frontiers people built their cabins with good trees, made their furniture, made their tools, cook their food, kept their children warm. Wood is an invaluble resource even today. Most saw mills are involved in forest renewal schemes so will you stop been such a green tree hugging dork. Tree's are never useless.
@dinieXx do you live in a house, trailer, apartment or condo? was it built around the trees and shrubbery that was present at time of building? you enviro-kooks are not "good people concerned with conservation". You are selfish, self-promoting kooks who can't think clearly. You have no idea where this guy got those trees. Proper forestry care means thinning out various types of trees for the benefit of most of the trees in the forest, for example. Grow up and learn something you dolt.
In my country, one woman with small powered chain saw would be to work much faster and cost many rubles less than giant stupid American saw machine. Please to contact me to hire such women, they are sturdy and feed little. Thank you.
@Icehut ohh, so can you cut 20 cords a day? if so i can put you right to work, also i do not give health insurance due to you are a woman with a chainsaw
@MrLeonard55 provided we dont hit any metal the tips usually last around 100-150 cords of wood cut, we replace the carbide inserts and send them out for repair/sharpening.
Only thing that would make this machine a little cooler is if it were powered by a screaming 671 detroit! Nice machine, very fast cycle time...beats the hell out of the imported junk on the maket today. I run a Timberwolf TW6 with a 20 foot conveyor myself.
Again with the OSHA stuff. Look folks, unless hes running a business including that equipment (and a minimum of 15 employees) OSHA cant do shit to him. Why does everyone seem to think its the government's responsibility to protect people from themselves. I like the machine.
Now where do the cut logs go? Is that all it does or does it split them too? How old is Tom Anderson? Does Tom Anderson live with his wife or a teenage one armed Sweedish boy? I have lots of unanswered questions.
Anything suitable for most processors could be made into lumber. What does this contraption do with tops? I guess these things go along with the city folk who like to turn the AC down so they can burn the fireplace. Blocked one up last winter with my $75 P51 Pioneer that would have made that SOB choke.
fast yeh i would say its fast but i dont call that a processor. a true processor would split the log also. now he has to go and split all those blanks. add a spitter to it then you would have something.
the saw blade is spun at half speed of the motor, it has a 5.15 cubic inch pump and a 9.20 cubic inch motor spinning the blade, the blade is turning about 800 rpm in this video, I assure you it is not coming to a stop it is just the light reflecting off the blade and the low frames per second of the camera
i looked again man... 2:22 you can see the light spot on the blade slows down to a very slow speed. this contraption works fine however but my absolute favorite part was the open turbo intakes. now that is unique! XD hahaha
I just learned how to use a small circular saw in the shop with sheet goods. A real beginner. This was just something I saw out of the blue. WOW! People like you do amazing things with engines/parts/etc!
I am impressed as hell the way that lumber is being processed, some parts look familiar from other applications. and just to put this all together and have it produce like that, is really something
Check out the begining of the video. There is no air cleaner on that engine. The intake end of the turbo is wide open. At least he remembered to put on a muffler!
the motor is out of a street sweeper and the intake tubing was awkward and a pain to try and make work so we said f-it and ran it a few days before getting the right filtration setup
Very Good. What size of engine to have running it and what size of hyd pump and the size of the hyd motor on the saw, i'm in the process of building one my self and have the wood splitter already done, been using a bus saw until now , help hard to get for sawing.
Not bad. Nearly as big as a couple we have here in the uk. We suggest you sheet over the front area to stop the sawdust flying around your workshop. Why not make up an automatic length log stop and feed system, you can sit back with a cup of tea and watch work progress at your leasure.
yea we are working on a 78" firewood saw currently, the largest blade we could get is 78" so that will have to do, it will have a 12v Cummins powering just the blade and a 4 cyl perkins running everything else. as far as the automatic stop goes it is just something else to fail, if the wood is 17" I dont care, lol I can take 36" in my fireplace
thats a pretty neat machine, we have a homemade sawmill, it even has our own sawdust extraction thing, which sucks it up a pipe and into a shed, i'll get a video of it soon
Did U get video of your mill yet? I'm gonna subscribe to your vids. I love these homemade contraptions. A friend and I are allways tinkering with something, in his shop. Not much call for firewood down here in So.Florida tho...lol
After a hurricane I gathered logs and split them with my homemade bobcat mounted splitter. Logs make the wood gas that runs the generator. Right here in south Florida I can use logs for free energy. If I could find a hydraulic chainsaw I could build a true firewood processor.
High production unit, that's for sure.
Am curious about how the operator spaces the log each time before the saw goes to work -- that is, how is uniform block length achieved?
