Can I just say, if I haven't already, how massive this video is?
Seriously. The form, the weight, the intensity: this is what all people who are smart enough to squat should aspire to. I'm about five years away from this, but it's awesome. Great video.
@Snarfdmypants Multiple reasons, but the main one is that I find it more enjoyable, and I lift primarily for my own pleasure, not to win contests and break records.
@Snarfdmypants I squat high bar for multiple reasons, but the main one is that I find it more enjoyable, and I lift primarily for my own pleasure, not to win contests and break records.
That's really hilarious....I would love to write a book where I just write the thoughts that go through a persons head durring a 20 rep squat. I start dreaming about enemies around rep 13.
you breath from your diaphragm and push your belly out. anything wrong with diaphragm breathing BETWEEN reps, and then HUGE breath from the chest, pushing that air down to the belly, and then squatting ?
@yomon07 haha i know :) i squat 3 times a week and i ve been increasing every time (hard to take a dump at first but my body got a bit of doms immunity in the legs :) ) is front squat any good for abs?i do them too
@kwstas67 disclosure: I'm not as good of squatter as this guy! but, i do know a thing or two. If you've been increasing everytime, then it's just a matter of time, consistency, and will power til you'll be squatting big weights. front squats is good for core, but more than anything focuses more on your quads.
I did 20 reps on 400 pounds a few weeks ago, but with no build up. This will give me something to aim for - nice squatting. I'm normally doing sets of 6 in the gym between 260 and 300 kg, but I lift with wraps and a suit at that weight (I had a knee cartilage repair a few years back so unequipped lifting has concerns for me). The 20 reps on 4 plates was done with wraps and a belt.
@jspesh Then you need to spread your chest out more and keep your shoulders back and head looking slightly above eye level. DO NOT LOOK DOWN. Push your knees out to the side as you go down, and then bring them back in again when you come up. This utilizes your hams/glutes also, and gets your quads to fire in the correct way.
@1991thechamp Blenderate retired from PL training due to chronic bone spur issues in his elbow/arm, so I don't think he's squatting that heavy anymore. I could be wrong however.
@Blenderate That's about what I figured. I was just wondering because I was curious what my 355 ATG belt-less squat would translate to as a parallel belted squat for a PL meet. I'm injured at the moment (abdominal pull or some crap) so I have nothing better to do.
wow!what the f*** is this?:) looking forward to crash platz's 500x23 .i know u can.:)
just a question though.do u believe i should squat in olympic shoes if i do go atg?cause i use chuck taylors and i cant find oly shoes anywhere.where are they sold?
That is more impressive than any Ron Coleman 800lbs for 2 reps like videos to me!
I never did so many reps in squats. My last is 220lbs x 12, and I felt like dying after getting to failure on rep 13. Couldn't get up for about half an hour. Can't even imagine what 400 x 20 feels like.
I know what you mean about the mental anguish of 20 rep squats. I used to have to psyche up all day to mentally prepare myself for them. Go over it in my mind. Even got my training partners to start the count again at ONE on the 11th rep to try and fool myself in to going on. Best I ever did for 20 reps was 185kg. Couldn't breathe normally for 15 minutes after I did that!
OMG im never suprised that somebody disliked this video.....haha honestly this is in my top 10 of most impressive videos i've personally seen on youtube
@Blenderate Would you say the neoprene shorts are helpful? Or is it one of those small advantages that you should really look at when you're putting up huge numbers?
Any particular reason why you do high bar? Does it ever bother your knees? I'm asking because I've been Oly squatting for a while now, and my knees have gotten very noisy and sometimes a bit achy.
maybe i should know who this guy is but i don't...but this is terrific squatting..i want him for our olympic lifting team...i am guessing his back strength is very high..if he hasn't tried olympic lifting he should...he reminds me of the russian lifters in leg strength..
Great will power. Only somone who has gone through a real 20-rep squat set can appreciate how awful and brutal it gets. When I used to do 20-rep squats in my basement, I couldn't help but scream between reps 12-20. Back then, my trainer partner would cover his ears, it was pretty funny. It really is brutal torture.
@biscuitmancollin I've thought about it many times. :) Actually keeping my body from falling apart while getting up to that level is pretty difficult, though.
@Blenderate I would imagine so. That would be incredible to see. The video of Tom Platz doing that is more impressive to me than a 1110-1200 pound max sumo squat out of a monolift in a Leviathan squat suit, belt, and wraps.
