I've played and beaten many of the top people in Melee, including CJ, KDJ, M2K, ISAI... in friendlies.. aka doesnt mean shit. When they are in tournament mode.. nobody understands unless they have been there. Brawl needs more skill than Melee does. Why? Because you can't do those same 'techniques' you do in Melee because it's too hard to do them. Many players were pissed at that, and hence why they say Brawl sucked. Because they can't be as good in Brawl, as they were in Melee. And some of the best players of Brawl use the Gamecube Controller. Can't they play with the Wii-Remote and Nunchuck? Can they be as good as they are without the Gamecube controller?
@Wargreymon2008 the gamecube comtroller is just the better option. when your playing competively and you have money riding on your victory why use a unreliable controller. its all about preference.
@Wargreymon2008 the ergonomics of a gcn controller make a lot more sense... like with grabs, for example. i feel a lot more comfortable reliably hitting z to grab rather than having to hit A and B trigger simultaneously.
@Wargreymon2008 No one knows what they are talking about. Gamecube controller is a must. It is impossible to fully jump and DI left/right while using the opposite aerial without the c-stick. The c-stick is also needed for SDI.
@Wargreymon2008 i can play brawl pretty well with either the wiimote or the gamecube controller but it feels much more natural and cohesive with the style of ssb to play with an analog controller. That's why so many people complain about brawl. I like brawl for it's extra content and the amount time i can put into the game without getting bored but melee is so much better for me duking it out with friends who know how to play.

I can still beat all human players but brawl does allow for some good practice. Anyway it's your opinion on which ones better but when it comes to skill you can't really qualify skill in this way. Both games just have different gameplay. Ones more floaty ones more about speedy attacks.
@pokemasterelite honestly i don't what to say about the competitivity of the original ssb. Yes the physics engine of melee worked better with most of the melee characters but i could pretty much play with any brawl character effectively in a tourney. My mains in brawl were zero suit samus, yoshi, diddy, peach, pit, zelda, marth, game and watch, lucas/ness, falco, kirby, etc. Thy were only so many melee characters you could play.
@SlamTheLabel All the best players main or secondary MK. I don't care about winning local tourneys, MK's worst match-up aside from dittos is 60/40. There's no such imbalance in melee, as Fox, Falco, Marth, and Sheik all have 50/50.

Even though Fox and Falco are #1 and 2 on the tiers, low tiers can actually combo them, so they stand a chance. When they are, you get results like Mango's Mario, Axe's Pikachu and Armada's Young Link. If you notice top tier has 4 chars in melee, in brawl it's only 1...MK

I know how to space i don't button mash i know the most powerful moves and i happen to combo very well. Meta knight and the tier list is absurd. I understand tiers but i've faced meta knight with many lower tier characters and i have never lost. He's easy to figure out and he's not that strong.
@SlamTheLabel sorry about judging you. I agree that metaknight IS easy to figure out since i've beaten some fairly competent meta knights with lower tier characters myself. However I would argue that he is strong, in fact the strongest character in the game (whether he's broken or not is arguable). The thing is people have played as or against meta knight so much that people can cope better with meta knight imo.

He has so little in the way of knockback in his attacks, he doesn't run incredibly fast all i really can admit is he has decent di like marth and great recovery but other than that i haven't found many problems with fighting against him however fighting against a fox, zero suit samus, or rob is not so easy. I can't tell you how many good robs i've faced. X.x
@AlastorGX i like melee better but for me personally i had a whole lot more single player things i could do (achievements and such) in brawl. That's what i liked about brawl but generally if i just want to play multiplayer competitive and fairly it's melee. I hate the lack of hit stun and floaty physics of brawl but what i was trying to point out it in a general non bias tone is both games are great in different ways.

I hate watching metwwo king play.. those lasers were useless with ken already that high in the first stock, he should have set up for hitting him when he landed. And at 1:03 to 1:06ish a c-stick would have killed marth. Glad he's dash grabbing a lot, ken abuses shield to much. Cool match, as a fox player, I like to see fox win.
@jilow You do realize these videos are extremely old and Mew2king is like way better/smarter? Also Fox is the best character in the game. Certain characters are practically unplayable in competitive play but every character is difficult to use against other high-level players.
@jono128 Every character has potential, but some max out, there are obviously tiers. There is also an element of paper rock scissors in the game, where their is counter picking, perhaps a character greatest asset is trumped by some low tier character so they counter pick with a lower tier depending who their opponent picked. I know Fox is considered to be the overall best in melee and I agree with that. I disagree that Mew2king is better than Ken, not that I've seen. Maybe in brawl that's true.
@jilow@jilow Ken doesn't play Smash anymore, nor does Isai or Bombsoldier. You need to watch more recent vids because any footage with those guys are way too old to get a sense of the current Melee metagame.
Don't believe how much better M2K is than they were? Search "Mew2king vs Crazy Return" Parts 1 and 2 and you'll realize there isn't a comparison.
Mew2king, in the words of another Youtuber, makes "a mockery of [Ken] Hoang family and friends."
@jono128 I don't think neccessarily that's a fair comparison. It'd be better to look at them both in their primes, and mew2king was playing when Ken, and others reigned, and he didn't dominate then. Also if you look at those videos you'll notice the timing is off a lot, especially Isai.. A lot of his attacks could have landed if he pressed them at the right time. Instead he either gets hit first, or misses. That wouldn't have happened when he was well warmed up.
@jono128 Essentially the problem is your playing these guys at the wrong time, you needed play them a few years ago to get an accurate picture. BSvPC, I think BS was ahead overall he just died first on the last stock. mew2 and pc would agree this doesn't show they're better and it doesn't show they are the best players melee has seen. Looking at things as of today, I can buy that mew2 is better, looking back in their primes, I still am not convinced. Again mew2 lost when ken was in his prime.
@jono128 If you want to see amazing, and people who I think are thee best at Melee, and are better than Ken, imo, watch Bombsoldier, and Isai. Those 2 are the real heroes of melee, and I think if ken and them played over and over, they'd eventually beat him consistently. Bombsoldier adapts slowly is his biggest issue (he needed to grab more verse ken, and be more patient force ken to come to him).

NO why play brawl? I didn't even use advanced techs or anything but brawl was broken, slow, and boring it felt more like the game is playing it's self than I was playing it.
melee is not perfect. there are tiers in melee, the goal of any fighting game is balance. a theoretically perfect fighting game is one where any character should believably be able to win a competitive tournement. melee is not such a game. it is great in the respect that there is a lot of depth and skill dependency, but it is not perfect. half the characters in the game are not expected to win a large scale tourny. this means the game is not balanced, thus imperfect.
@genovaz idk man. you have a point but i think the main reason tiers exist is popularity.cuz you can be beasty with yoshi or young link. its just that the majority of the players use faster characters. in sweden fox isnt even top tier so i guess that kinda makes the tier system faulty.
Yeah this comment is a year old...however, Melee's skill curve is so high that you CAN win with every character. Although, you're right in the respect that it's more difficult with others. Though I don't know anyone who has claimed melee to be perfect. ;)

He has so little in the way of knockback in his attacks, he doesn't run incredibly fast all i really can admit is he has decent di like marth and great recovery but other than that i haven't found many problems with fighting against him however fighting against a fox, zero suit samus, or rob is not so easy. I can't tell you how many good robs i've faced. X.x

@AlastorGX i like melee better but for me personally i had a whole lot more single player things i could do (achievements and such) in brawl. That's what i liked about brawl but generally if i just want to play multiplayer competitive and fairly it's melee. I hate the lack of hit stun and floaty physics of brawl but what i was trying to point out it in a general non bias tone is both games are great in different ways.

I hate watching metwwo king play.. those lasers were useless with ken already that high in the first stock, he should have set up for hitting him when he landed. And at 1:03 to 1:06ish a c-stick would have killed marth. Glad he's dash grabbing a lot, ken abuses shield to much. Cool match, as a fox player, I like to see fox win.

@jilow You do realize these videos are extremely old and Mew2king is like way better/smarter? Also Fox is the best character in the game. Certain characters are practically unplayable in competitive play but every character is difficult to use against other high-level players.

@jono128 Every character has potential, but some max out, there are obviously tiers. There is also an element of paper rock scissors in the game, where their is counter picking, perhaps a character greatest asset is trumped by some low tier character so they counter pick with a lower tier depending who their opponent picked. I know Fox is considered to be the overall best in melee and I agree with that. I disagree that Mew2king is better than Ken, not that I've seen. Maybe in brawl that's true.

@jilow @jilow Ken doesn't play Smash anymore, nor does Isai or Bombsoldier. You need to watch more recent vids because any footage with those guys are way too old to get a sense of the current Melee metagame.
Don't believe how much better M2K is than they were? Search "Mew2king vs Crazy Return" Parts 1 and 2 and you'll realize there isn't a comparison.
Mew2king, in the words of another Youtuber, makes "a mockery of [Ken] Hoang family and friends."

@jono128 I don't think neccessarily that's a fair comparison. It'd be better to look at them both in their primes, and mew2king was playing when Ken, and others reigned, and he didn't dominate then. Also if you look at those videos you'll notice the timing is off a lot, especially Isai.. A lot of his attacks could have landed if he pressed them at the right time. Instead he either gets hit first, or misses. That wouldn't have happened when he was well warmed up.

@jono128 Essentially the problem is your playing these guys at the wrong time, you needed play them a few years ago to get an accurate picture. BSvPC, I think BS was ahead overall he just died first on the last stock. mew2 and pc would agree this doesn't show they're better and it doesn't show they are the best players melee has seen. Looking at things as of today, I can buy that mew2 is better, looking back in their primes, I still am not convinced. Again mew2 lost when ken was in his prime.

@jono128 If you want to see amazing, and people who I think are thee best at Melee, and are better than Ken, imo, watch Bombsoldier, and Isai. Those 2 are the real heroes of melee, and I think if ken and them played over and over, they'd eventually beat him consistently. Bombsoldier adapts slowly is his biggest issue (he needed to grab more verse ken, and be more patient force ken to come to him).

melee is not perfect. there are tiers in melee, the goal of any fighting game is balance. a theoretically perfect fighting game is one where any character should believably be able to win a competitive tournement. melee is not such a game. it is great in the respect that there is a lot of depth and skill dependency, but it is not perfect. half the characters in the game are not expected to win a large scale tourny. this means the game is not balanced, thus imperfect.

Yeah this comment is a year old...however, Melee's skill curve is so high that you CAN win with every character. Although, you're right in the respect that it's more difficult with others. Though I don't know anyone who has claimed melee to be perfect. ;)
