Great! One of my favorite all-time songs. Have always been an Ambrosia fan. This song represents their early progressive side before the commercial ballads came from them. Would have loved to have heard more prog from these guys.
@kimo1038 90% of the lyrics are by Kurt Vonnegut from the 53rd Calypso from Cat's Cradle, but Ambrosia wrote the music. Kurt Vonnegut loved the song and wrote Ambrosia a nice note about hearing the song on the
@janmurph What, Dave Grohl isn't a musician??? Slash isn't a musician??? Get real. Who makes that distinction? Yes, these guys were great, but great music is played by the young for the young. Music has evolved. That doesn't mean it is better or worse, it is just different today. "...Don't hate the ones who give you Rock 'n Roll!"
Oh yea, incredible musicians! Their music, tones, harmony have a complex fabric young musicians should be studying. Listen to Art eware/Apothecary, The Brunt, Cowboy Star, Life Beyond L.A. It's like listening to 5 different bands at once. Joe Puerta is a huge influence on my bass playing style.
Brings back very happy memories for me in the '70s when we lived in the Philippines. Recorded their first album and played it all the time, party time especially. mindtrip
I've always liked this song and was taken by suprise when I ran across the lyrics in Kurt Vonnegut's novel, "Cat's Cradle", which I picked up at the library yesterday. Of course I did have to pull out the album to check that Vonnegut was given a song writing credit.
I really don't understand all the negative comments about being without David Pack. Times change. Yes, it's different, but wow, that Rick Cowling is a great guitarist, and a great singer as well. Wonder how they found him?
I guess everyone needs to bitch about something. Sure... I'll hop on the train for a couple stops ;)
I don't understand the scarcity of Joe Puerta comments. He was one of the co-founders & is part of the glue that holds the groove in place. He's done some nice stuff w/Hornsby as well.
I recall when this tune first came out (was all of 14). It was like nothing else. One of the band members labeled their sound "accessible prog". I think this is a faithful capture of the original.
I am a new Ambrosia convert. I was 7 when this song came out, and I never listened to anything but Classical until I was in high school. I did, however, remember "The Biggest Part of Me" and went searching for it one night on YouTube. That's when I discovered their prog rock stuff, which I like a lot better. It's like Rush with good vocals (I'm so sorry Geddy, I'm really a big fan) and most of the hard edges ground down.
I will have to make a second post, as I'm about to run out of
One explanation for the lack of commentary by Puerta is the fact that this is the Drum Channel. Therefore, it would make sense that Burleigh Drummond (what a great name for a drummer) would do most of the talking.
Oh jeez, now I feel like my little 22 year old cousin, going on and on about some Korean Pop group, hehe. Nah, these are some fine musicians. The world just never appreciated them quite enough.
As of now, this video has 68,393 views. I think we are responsible for about 1,000 of those, because this is my 2-year-old's absolutely favorite song. We have to listen to it or watch this video at least 25 times a day. Luckily, I have three different versions of the song, and very luckily, it's a great song. I'm still not tired of it. I think his favorite person to watch is Christopher North.
Thought it was YES when I heard on the radio today. Good surprise, made me happy to hear going back to work! Not the same Ambrosia I remember, better.
Absolutely amazing! Nice Nice will forever be at the top of my iPod playlist! And to see it performed live is a real treat. I hope I get the opportunity to see this band at least once before I leave to the next life!
great that these guys still get together to do this....saw them in Pedro at the lobster fest a couple of year ago...they were great...would love to see some OLD video of them performing all of the first album.....to this day I still concider one of the best albums ever made. Was just listening to it on the way home tonight, which is what prompyed me to look here........
I have so much respect for you Joe and All of your fantastic band. I go back to the seventy's with you guys and I still love you so. Ambrosia is so special to me. Thank you.I love all of Ambrosia. Iv grown up with you. But I do love the First album so much. This is so special to me
Jeez, youth is over so f*cking quickly! I'm 50 - I remember when these guys were young, not so long ago. I don't want to hang around as long as Kurt did, that is for sure. Nice song.
@ShaktiLIfe Lol, Yeah, I was a big Vonnegutt fan too,and this song is such a kick. But I remember it like it was yesterday..man those years do fly by!!!
Great performance!! The guitar/singer is great but man I wish they would get back with David Pack again. Ambrosia is one of the few bands that can still sing and play great! Love Ambrosia!!
Haha! I saw these guys at The Fresno District Fair. Bill Cosby opened the show, it was kinda a down time in his career. He worked really blue that night and he kept ragging on some F14ers in the front row who were heckling him. I thought for a while there he was gonna get shivved!
Hmm... weird, I was looking for Dan Mangan and I found it o.O
Info for fan-trolls: it's nice music, I like it :]
