@elTMorales Actually, if you read the website, you would know that this whole project is to raise funds for various microfinance institutions that directly help these people and others like them.
elTMorales, you are trying to make a point without thinking about the facts. these kids, as you call them, didn't have to go to guatemala and put themselves in this situation the first place. they are aware that there is a problem in third world countries other than poverty and are trying to let the rest of the world see it in a manner that they can understand it. Not everyone will understand how it feels to live in these circumstances all their lives but this will hopefully open a lot of eyes
If you tell me that you have to life from a dollar a day, I know that you are poor. Trying this yourself does not prove this point more, that is my thinking. I know, they want to show us westerners what it "really means" in trying this by themselves, but as stated above, I already got it. Furthermore two points, do not forget that these kids can stop the "experiment" at any time and go home to their wealth, so for them its like a boot camp experience, tough but with a foreseeable
@elTMorales thank you for your comments regarding our project. It is true that our 8 weeks will go by fast and in the end, we all have much more than a dollar a day to return to, but during these 8 weeks rather than "call it an experience" our goal is to expand the research done prior to our visit and gaining insight through interviews conducted from poor families in our community. Moreso, we ask the question: How can the poor budget their money? We appreciate your concerns.
@Jakuzadoc93 end. So their "reality" is not the same as of people who have to endure it their whole life long. Secondly, if you have been always poor, and life by or less a dollar a day, you are adjusted to that. Yes, we should help people get better and earn more, have more benefits and such, but do not forget that people can be happy without much money ... so, as I've said before, either way, it accomplishes nothing. These kids have just a feelgood summer trip and go home in a few weeks ...
i had a report on this in human geography last semester, my was pretty crappy, i wish this video was here awhile back cause they just gave me some good ideas i could have put in it
