Capitalists are to blame. Were it not for the endless interventions and aggressions of the West, these socialist states could have grown peacefully. From the Western invasion of Russia during the Revolution up until NATO threats and third world proxy wars abroad, socialist countries were forced to maintain a siege mentality. For defense. Communists have the right to defend their states as capitalists do. And BTW I fucking hate anti-Semites!

@scrembo Human rights records in socialist countries differ. Some worse, better, than others (same with capitalist countries). While many were authoritarian (mostly b/c they had no history of liberal democracy, like Russia, China, etc), people participated in politics and institutions more so than citizens of capitalist countries! As for poverty, communists HAVE successfully redistributed wealth downward for programs that help the poor (eg housing, schooling). Capitalists help the poor?? HAHA!!!

@radmilitant Wow you're seriously dumb. Capitalist countries have donated a thousand fold+ more to charities and foreign aid than any socialist country. The rich pay more taxes which is fair, and on top they also donate more to charity in total than any commie regime ever did. Name ONE communist country that successfully liberated individual citizens from poverty?? ONLY Capitalism EVER did this. Communism has ONLY ever increased the gap between rich and poor, the OPPOSITE what it said.

@scrembo Rich and poor... The ratio of highest paid workers (engineers, Party officials) to the lowest paid in former socialist nations was like 5:1. In the U.S., the ratio of corporate CEO's to a minimum wager (working poor) is more like 10,000 to 1, and out-of-pocket expenses must go toward grossly-inflated prices of necessities like food, clothing, rent, medical care, transportation etc. In socialist nations these things were heavily subsidized. Friedman was just an apologist for rich people.

Marx based his economics on classical economist such as Smith and Ricardo, and economic science was not fully developed. He adopted the labor theory of value that implies the value of commodities are relative to the labor used to produce them, it's an objective look at value. He adopted this view, but soon after the marginal revolution this theory was debunked by the subjective theory of value. A very important work on this is Principles of Economics by Carl Menger.

@radmilitant I highly suggest reading Theory & History by Mises on the philosophical foundations of Marxism. This book blows his philosophy to pieces!!!!
But of course, you're not clever enough to read about the horrible history of socialism, so what are the damn chances you're going to read an economics book either?
Socialism is a system that produces weaker and weaker men. Its also a system thats attractive to weak men who want to be dependant on a state rather than make our own decision

@radmilitant Socialism in any form is doomed to failure simply based upon the fact that it widens the scope of government. Government must at the same time become the protector and the provider and it can only do so in the basest mediocrity for the same reason that one can not be a master carver and a master musician at the same time. As government increases it's scope, it must naturally decrease it's efficiency at one or the other.

Communism being a system that breaks people in order to fit an unnatural political ideal -not a great basis to start (as oppose to capitalism which is a system to fit the people). 100million+ dead isnt enough for you? Gulags, concentration camps, social engineering, totalitarianism? Go to Cuba while we enjoy freedom in the west

@scrembo C'mon bro u can't see the Gulag as a serious example of violating human rights! Nearly ALL governments had (and many still do) penal colonies, or labor colonies, for criminals. Even the Allies after WWII converted Nazi death camps into penal colonies for former Nazi officials. "Hard labor" was a common punishment in early American history. The Gulag was not at all unusual. 100M dead? How you figure? Government support of services, jobs, medical, housing etc. is NOT totalitarianism.

My humble suggestion would be for you to re-evaluate your life and realise that communism was put to death already. It's actually been proven fiscally impossible to work by the likes of Milton Friedman and other economists. No communist nowadays can stand to reason.

@scrembo Socialist regimes lifted millions out of poverty! One example: The USSR's Five Year Plans. It enabled millions of peasants to migrate to cities, urbanize and take advantage of new social services. Upward mobility was became possible. New jobs in sciences, tech, education, politics etc opened for people previously living in rural hardship, long neglected by the czars. Look at the progress for women! Once passive farm laborers, women became leading engineers, doctors, teachers scientists.

@radmilitant BS! Lifted who out of poverty? The farmers who had their lifestock and seeds stolen by the government so that they couldn't feed themselves and then starved to death? ie the mass famine in the Ukraine. It killed millions and started an epidemic of cannibalism!!
Let me assure you upward mobility was IMPOSSIBLE under communism. The political elite lived like kings, the rest of the population were reduced to pigs living in muck. Reduction to absolute lowest possible denominator.

Lenin ordered the seizure of the food peasants had grown for their own subsistence and their seed grain in retaliation for this "sabotage," leading to widespread peasant revolts. Capitalism isn't perfect, but by my estimation its the only system we've found so far that guarantees a certain level of freedom and works around human nature (rather than explicitly trying to bend and break human nature, as any form of socialism does). All people deserve a right to self determination.

@scrembo Yes i know, my grate grand father died in the Holocaust. And clearly you don't know that much about it, they we're killed because at the End of WW1 Germany was blamed for WW1 so they had to pay back all the other nations
(although they we're among the nations that lost the most life in the war) because of the crippling tax's and demands from the other nation, it was quite easy for a young leader (that was killing ever leader of germany that didn't agree with him) Named Adolf Hitler....
