Linux Ubuntu 08.10 on Sony Playstation 3

It's really a pity to not being able to take advantage of the power of sony PS3 as in terms of number crunching or as a super graphic workstation.

Sony should issue their own linux in native code. They 'll make many happy people for sure.

As it was stated on and on by others, installing and running linux on a PS3 is always in emulation mode. That means it's far from interesting to do so regarding the performance degradation due to the emulation overhead. A "simple" dual-core PC is far much responsive and you could achieve your installation in less than 15 minutes.

Well if you had enough time to waste in experimenting linux on a PS3 give fedora distro a try. Red hat is a far cry from any ubuntu, well IMHO.

das einzige was bei mir geht ist Ubuntu 7.10 Desktop Live :(

why cant i type anything ? im in that same exact installation nd when i try to type something it doesnt work... i have a usb keyboard and evrything works like arrow keys but when i try typing in some info the letter keys dont work for me

Just hold power button for 5 seconds , when you are turning on your PS3, until you hear double beep. Original XMB will be loaded then.

the speed of a ps3 as a computer would be rather slow but is has the god of all prossesing cards

I noticed your window panes display fully, the bottom of my panes get chopped off below the bottom of the screen and it dont let me drag the pane any higher to view the bottom???

If you hold the alt or ctrl button you can drag the window around to see the bottom. If that doesn't work, right click the top of the window on the frame and select move, which will allow you to move the window around. You're on a sdtv, not an hdtv, right?

Na tried dragging but the top of he window hits the top of the xcreen and doesnt move up any higher...

Compiz is working but due to limit of 256 RAM in PS3 it wont work as on normal PC with at least of 1GB RAM
