Breakaway is one of Art's finest albums in my opinion... he's such a talented vocalist and musician.. this album brings back memories of university, when I would listen to it constantly, as well as Scissors Cut. Beautiful and timless...........
Well, I checked it out and I still prefer this version. G & L version sounded thin and reedy to me, and the harmonies in Art's version are just richer. However, I didn't even know G & L had recorded this song.....thanks for the referral.
This great song reached #39 in 1975. Kind of has the sound of Seals & Crofts.

Music of this composition and quality we will perhaps never have again. We have become "Jungle People". Americans are "de-evoluting".

A great version, but Gallagher and Lyle wrote it. And theirs is less produced and I prefer it.
What a voice AG has though. Remarkable.

I used to love this song as a child and I still do, this and many of the other songs he sings.

This is the original (1975). Gallagher & Lyle version was recorded a year later.

Didn't Gallagher & Lyle write this?

I must admit. I love both versions; I prefer the vocals of Garfunkel's version, but prefer the music of Gallagher and Lyle's version.
Thanks Krzysczynksi (damn, that's a lot of consonants) for mentioning the other version. And kudos to you, Supermick, for the correction.
Cheers, mates.

However...Gallagher and Lyle are the writers of the song, to add.

This album is so awesome. Why are there so few songs from it? Where is "99 Miles to LA" That is one of the BEST love songs ever.
