Great looking system. A small piece of advise, instead of using a DC motor as dump load. Aquire a 12v 600 watt water heater coil, and use extra power to heat your water. That way there in no wasted energy. Later from sunny FL!
i HAVE the raptor 3 blade turbine,and No they do Not start at 1.5 winds.Mine starts at around 10 mph.I called the company and told them.Think it is stretched a little,however solid unit all the way.matter fact mine pulled out of the 3 foot concrete tower and dropped about 60 feet fall broken by my wooden fence,did not scratch the unit or blades maybe too durable?
@dieselplow Yes most of the electrical supplies were from a electrical supply store. Most of everything can be found in home depot as well. The dc meter, 120 breaker switch, and amp meter are from missouri wind and solar. The battery box I made from supplies from home depot. The batteries are deep cycle a/c delco napa batteries 125 amp hour. The inverter I picked up from a boat and boatandrvaccessories . com
Ok, gotcha...12 volt. Yes, I could imagine at that low a voltage even small voltage drops would be a greater percentage of the total. I went w/ a 24 volt battery setup, partially because the 1500 watt battery backup DC/AC inverter I have runs on 24 volts. My PMA is 48 volts, but is limited in voltage by the battery bank. I would encourage you to move to a higher voltage(new stator, and reconfigure the batteries/get new inverter if needed), and move to AC from the turbine.
@josh8loop Yes agreed a/c is the way to go for sure. Most VAWT setup's are all A/C. Every time you convert power you loose a % of that power and its lost. That inverter only has a 80% efficiency rating. I am trying the wind max generator next and it use a/c up to their charge controller. For now the rest of it im keeping it 12v off grid system..
@josh8loop If i could turn back the sands of time . I would have bought the windmax generator from the start. The cost of wire would be less and the turbines are built last. The A/C delco alts are good for under the hood of a car not the freezing rain and snow we get here in western New York
@josh8loop Yeah but using a higher a higher rated PMA with a lower voltage battery bank is brilliant. I personally am done with A/C delco PMA's . Thanks for the help :)
Great video, and I like your setup. I am trying to digest your info on your PMA performance as I am trying to figure out which type of setup might be the best. I developed a couple questions however. First, what is the voltage of your battery bank set up for?
@josh8loop I went with 12v system. I made a mistake about the distance of wire in the video its only 75. Now depending on how far you want to run your wire would change what voltage system you want to use. If I used 75' of wire but had a 24v system the wire awg could have been smaller. Most system's that Have a tower 200' away from thier home is a 48volt dc or a a/c system to save on cost of wire.
See the other message first...continuation from it on this one. I am convinced by doing this, you will see better wattage outputs. As an example, on my system(24 V battery bank fed by a bridge rectified 48 Volt AC PMA) I have see about 600 watts at 27 MPH. That's not too bad, considering I am running a cheap 75' extension cord into the garage from the turbine!
