I'd say a large scale deployment of a technology that demonstrates it isn't fit for large scale deployment as a big sign that it isn't suitable for my large scale deployment.... this guy seems to be a bit of a douche and doesn't really want to address the problems in his own software and instead pass them off as the user's incompetence.
can we say ruby can be the alternative of PHP or better than it? Secondly if we want to use it for web development, does any body know how to run on Windows seven environment, and its framework like we run php on wamp server?

wow. this guy is very arrogant. Watch how he gets offended when asked about twitter - watch 6:00 and on. At 7:12 when he says "so what", i want to punch him in the mouth. I dont even know this guy but after watching this, I hope he gets his arrogant ass beaten some day.
LOL he is the guy who wrote Rails. He is saying that he doesn't care if you use his software because you don't think it scales, and he is right, he doesn't sell it and probably couldn't care less if anyone uses it or not. And he has every right to be arrogant, especially compared to some one like you, he wrote one of the most popular web frameworks on the web and you did what? say you hope he gets beat up? congratulations, I am sure he is very intimidated.
I don't know, they aren't necessary any smarter than other "technologists" using other programming frameworks, but they certainly have a good, revolutionary message.
I don't even think Rails is a better technology than anything else as much as I just think that it emphasized the right things at the right time. If I had more time I would've asked him questions about Django, and I anticipate he wouldn't have had anything negative to say about the framework.
Seriously, I wanted to hear more as well, but the Chicago Park dude came over and shut us down. We'll finish the interview in the next month or so. I was going to ask him questions about Django, people using Rails for genetics, and other things.
I know, I know. Well, the rain started, we moved under a tree, and then "The Man" came by to shut us down. We'll get to the second half this month, but if you had any particular questions in mind, leave them as comments.
The only background noise that is distracting is the train, but that's toward the end. Really, the idea is that I'm sick of both watching and conducting interviews in someone's drab, soul-crushing office. It also puts people in a better context.
We occupy a cultural and sonic environment that can't be ignored, the sound of the city is the sound of life.
It's good feedback, I'll definitely put the audio through some better filters next time. I had a shotgun mic with me that would've yielded better results.
I did this because I was inspired by Bernie Krause earlier that week. For the subject, I'm finding it easier to get people to converse when they are out in the public space. I think there is something about the background noise that makes people more "social", but I'll definitely try to get that background noise out next time.
Awesome, then it was Wendesday the 13th. No, maybe it was Thursday the 14th. Err... I don't know. Listen ZorkFox. We made time fold in upon itself and created our own custom universe in which August 14th fell on a Wednesday.
Ok, you got me, I screwed up, but I'm glad you caught it. Send me your email address, and I'll send you a pocket guide to something. (just you, as you were the first...)
Sweet. Folding space is a function I've wanted in Rails for a long time now. :)
The only reason I noticed is because I happened to have looked at my calendar just before I started the video.
Here's a question I'd like answered: Rails is TOUGH to deploy (in my opinion as a n00b). I mean, there's a whole book available on how to do it. What are the plans to make deployment more user-friendly and when will they be implemented?
There ZorkFox, I used the magic of YouTube Video Annotations to add a "fix" to the video. YouTube Video Annotations would be more powerful if I could add a link out to another web site - this way I could like to Charles Oliver Nutter's blog when he mentions him in this interview.
Fucking bullshit. America wil be like north korea in 30years.

Pretty ridiculous that you need a permit to do such a casual interview.

he says that he doesn't care about people that don't use rails because of this misconception.

I don't really get your problem. He doesn't care about twitter because ruby doesn't depent on twitter's growth.

Wow, this guy's head is really getting big. His answer about why some people think Rails can't scale came across as really arrogant.

Darn. You guys should have filmed the rest of the interview somewhere else. We wouldn't have minded.

Possible Question:
Are you satisfied with the current Ruby on Rails wiki? Does the Rails team have plans for improving it?

Why the hell did you do this outside? Good interview, really annoying background noises.

If the background noise were less loud, I would agree with you. This was quite uncomfortable to listen to, imho.

Rails is getting big, i mean BIG. Simple, functional and it does the job in an exellent way.
And for sure, this language has future, in my opinion it has already won Python.
TiLeNpWneD 3 years ago
rails isn't a language. ruby was around way before rails
