  • Now this is real singing. Not all this over-the-top spastic vocal ranges like pop stars today. Don't even want to say their names on a Lena Horne vid. It's blasphemous

  • @WarRogers as long as you dont say Beyonces name then we will be fine because she is unlike those other bubble gum pop singers of today, she is the real deal!!!

  • @Beyoncefan1000 NO she sucks lol Bootylicious gimmee a break. Bye

  • @WarRogers no bitch the break is over and yes Beyonce is awesome!!

  • Lena's Broadway mastery creates a very unique mood and atmosphere when performing on stage solely to interpret song as an artist, but because her Broadway presence dominates she interprets this lovely song with imagination--acting out the very essence of the words she creates scenes in our mind that only experienced artist of her caliber are able to do.

  • Wow. I never knew she sang this...

  • @dbeater1, I Love Lena Horne, R.I.P.

  • Some songs are glorified nursery rhymes - this? This breaks away from the cliché' like a Ginsberg Howl! Amazing arrangement and interpretation. She did not have the best instrument but when she used it she played it flawlessly.

  • @1146beaver I believe Lena was a very underrated singer! she had pipes like garland and a range like barbra or even higher and excellent breath control

  • Enchanting lady of song-true essence of class, and vocal excellence that danced and dug deep into your core. Lina created an array of styles that took you on a journey to discover yourself.

  • This enchanting lady is the true essence of class, and vocal excellence that flowed and danced and dug deep into our core Lina showing an unwavering resilience and an array of styles that took you on a journey to discover yourself.

  • Thank you for posting this lovely clip. When I was a teenager, my mom took me to see Ms. Horne's 1-woman show at the Midland Theater in Kansas City. I remember my mom telling me she wanted me to hear a true pioneer. I was blown away by the performance and the performer and am so grateful I got to see this amazing woman live. Very sad to learn of her death tonight at 92. Go with peace, wonderful woman.

  • Beautiful song and a wonderful singer.

  • I love lena, but I can't help it, I always think she looks like a disapproving mother.

  • lena,beautyful in every way!

  • Didn't she do Stormy Weather?

  • @TheJerseybull That really is a beautiful comment Jersey

  • I´ve got to love LENA!

  • Great singer.

  • beauty woman

  • loved her in the Wiz : )

  • For any interested guitar players that looks a lot like Howard Roberts playing the acoustic in the studio backup band

  • BRAVO!!!

What's the name of this song?

  • This is just a celebration of one of the world's most beautiful women...that face is gorgeous and has been for years.

  • That's good and all but I still don't know the name of this song.

  • The name of the song is "I've Got to Have You".

It mentions that in the gray box to the right of the video.

  • The songs is I'VE GOT TO HAVE YOU written by Kris Kristofferson. Best version is on an LP/CD called Lena: A New Album.

  • Who else can do an erotic song in a classy and dignified way???Nobody but Lena. Her rendition at the Supper Club was a real treat back in 1994.

  • Fantastic!

  • Thanks a million for putting up this song. Does anyone have any other versions, such as Carly Simon's?

  • I love everything Lena does...This is also a masterpiece...

I´ve got to have this song!

  • really nice

    soft and open

I heard she wrote songs even when she was in her 70s, isnt that amazing, for others ofcourse but wow

thanks modbelle for the heads up

  • She never, ever WROTE her songs!

  • lenahorneclub wow in that case maybe the person I got the info from meant she was singing songs at that age, even more impressive

  • I cannot believe I just found this SUPERB song & performance!!! I saw it only once before -years ago.

  • she is magnicifient!

Sad she is now so ill

  • ILL??? The woman is almost 92 years old, not ill.

  • sorry for the delay it was posted awhile ago on the SFF forum that she is suffereing from Parkinson's Disease; I hope its not true!

  • She's retired, no Parkinsons. She's also elderly, do the math!

  • What a beautiful song to discover first thing after work. Very reminiscent of "The Time Ever I Saw Your Face". I have to hand it to Lena & Roberta, very beautiful music. If you like Lena you should also try her on Sesame Street, song entitled "How Do You Do?", also on youtube.

  • I am a professional singer living in Europe and I luckily stumbled across this video of this wonderfu artist. I think it is one of the most perfect, most captivating, performances of any artist I have ever seen, past or present. This video of Lena Horne is the work of an artist performings at genius level. Simply amazing. Each time I watch it, I am left speechless and full of emotion. It's such performances that makes an artist unforgettable and enables them to be a part of History. Thank you!

  • @sea1song You said it all. Wow, wow, wow!

  • This must have been a very popular song. I've heard it covered on Carly Simon's album as well as Kris and Lena.

  • God bless Miss Horne, one of the world's most fabulous women and greatest performers. Very intriguing song, too --

  • Absolutely fierce- and at 56, yet!! Thanks!!

  • Amazing...why isn't she recognized more for her talent?

  • I believe she is.

  • I don't think so. I'm only 23 and have never seen a female performer like her, meanwhile my friends have never even heard of her before. She is a true vocalist. Anyone else notice how she 'throws' her voice and brings it back with that steady and luring vibrato?

  • If they've never heard of her, refer them to the 2004 Janet Jackson Super Bowl incident.

  • My grandmother told me she meet her when she was young and that Lena was so nice and did not have a diva attitude, just a kind person when she met her, and always elegant.

  • Lena was such a diva of style and fashion! This woman could wear a potato sack and make it look high fashion! What a beauty!

  • Wow... well here's the proof that Barbra Streisand was influenced by Lena.

  • Thanks lenahorneclub for posting this video.deejaygrl

  • Omg I love the way she did this thanks 4 putting it up

  • This song sounds a lot like "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face." sung by Roberta Flack THe arrangement is very similar. I love Lena Horne.

  • Here's hoping these platinum clips never stop coming. Just when I thought I knew and experienced every phase of Lady Lena, I am bedazzled again here, by a performance which is part folk, part country, part western, part earth mother, part chanteuse, and all soul. And the understated pink suit, afro-ish hairstyle and steely gaze are all bewitching. Thank you very much for this.

  • see thats what talent is all about

  • BRAVO!!!!

  • Amazing! Lena Horne at her best.

  • I like the country-western vibe. Lena the African-Native American Queen!

  • thanx you so much for posting this for us lena fans...FIERCE!!!! LENA WILL BE 91 THIS YEAR!!!!!!

  • This is a wonderful rendition of a beautiful song. She charges it with sexual longing and desire that is incomparable.

  • With all due respect to Kris Kristofferson, he writes amazing songs that others make even more amazing...I have heard this song for the first time today by this incredible lady. I almost cried, I was so moved...BRAVO

  • > I have heard this song for the first

    > time today by this incredible lady.

Yeah, it's a great song for sure. Lena Horne recorded it on two different albums: "A New Album" in 1976, and in 1994 on the CD "We'll Be Together Again" (I think that was the title of it). The 1976 version was very 1970s/intimate, the later one was a little more jazzy/orchestrated. Both were excellent.

  • Thanks Dave, I`d love to get a copy of this particular clip on DVD. I sent a message to the person who posted it on you tube but dont know if they got it. I love this woman but can hardly get any material on dvd in the uk. She was a big influence on Shirley Bassey and they have a mutual appreciation society and are friends.

  • Magical!

  • Lena's voice and beauty are absolutely stunning!! What class! Thank you so much for posting this!!

  • O lena....I've got to have you!

  • Wonderful - Thanks for the Video!!!
