  • Somebody really captured a historic moment in time with this.

  • good to see them when they were such youngsters back in the days :)

  • Who is playing the organ ?

  • does anybody know if there is a full length song version of this, its soooo energetic! me likey :)

  • This is clearly edited. What CD is it on?

  • I dont like the beatles. But I think I say this because it sounds very stupid to hear a band that everybody likes. Why? The beatles were a very talented and succsessfull band and they are very good in doin diffrent styles.

Well i think the third one is perhaps the most important fact why most people like them but also why not really me! I fell very much respect for artists showing a great passion for their style and have a very deep repertoire and not a wide one.

    It just seems to poppy!

  • Ive been in the recording studios 35 years. EVERYONE emulates Ringo.

  • Ringo's drumming in this one is absolutely amazing!

  • this is cool....its before the beatles were gay hippies!!

  • @haole345 they werent ever gay! John did have sex with Brian Epstein one in spain in '64

  • @jias188 but they did become hippies

  • @jias188 How do you know he had sex with Epstein? Were you there?

  • @lewars1912 well Epstein fucked him and he just let him do whatever he wanted. I read a book called magical mystery tours written by bramwell a guy who knew them ever since they were kids and this story was flying around in 1964 and John broke a guys ribs and broke his own nose after he made fun of him for the sex

  • @jias188 Well you seem to be implying that Bramwell claimed that Epstein had sex with Lennon. I read the opposite: On being asked what his take was on the opinion that John had sex with Epstein, Bramwell is quoted as saying: "I have no take on it whatsoever, because I highly, highly doubt that there is anything to that story at all."

  • only sweet lil sixteen (also from hamburg's star club) could be more impressive

  • Is there a full recordingof this song?? PLEASE!!! This is in 1962!!!

  • ive had this album for years but have never heard the organ(?) solo! wonder what kind of organ it was and who played it?

  • WHO IS THIS DRUMMING? becuse,if it's best he was GREAT

  • @roman14032

It is Bongo, the recording is known to have taken place during the last two days of the year 1962. Ringo had been in the band since August 1962.

  • @JapaninArmeija Ringo! I shoud have known.it's weird that a guy can be the most famous and influetial drummer in the world and still be under appriciated,

  • @roman14032 the most influential drummer in the world,? most famous mabbe, never hear anyone wanting to play like ringo, keith moon ,ginger baker ,john bonham, etc ringo no.

  • @roman14032 it's ringo, this is on december 1962 after they fired pete best. he sucked, check out the decca tapes or the EMI session, the guy was not a drummer, he couldn't play even half as good as ringo.

  • lol at the last picturee

  • My fiance told me that this song is on one of the Beatles Anthology CDs. Can anyone confirm this? I've been meaning to buy that set since it was released back in the '90s. Just wondering if they actually have the rare covers and tracks like this one.

  • @MusicalOxygen nope, it's not on the beatles anthology cds. you'll have to find some star club bootleg.

  • Love the picture at 0:25.. They're both clearly wired

  • Did I hear an organ in there at :35?

Never heard an early Beatles live performance with an organ!?

  • @subg88 The organ player is Roy Young. He was in the house band "Star-Combo" at the Star-Club

in Hamburg. In my clip "The Beatles - Young and wild in Hamburg" you can se a picture of Roy and his organ and the Beatles onstage at the Star-Club.

  • @MannyMUC

Awesome, thanks. I'll check it out.

  • @subg88 The organ is dubbed on, no two ways about it.

  • The Bealtes have so much damn music. Cover or not.

  • WOW, I love this version!!

  • Holy mackerel Sapphire! This is the 1st time I heard this, and I am completely blown away. Is the drummer Pete Best, Ringo, or someone else? I cannot believe it is Pete -- by the lads account he was not a good drummer and the person beating the skins on this track is smokin'. Who's the organist? The Beatles were simply amazing. Paul has said of them that they were simply a "very good rock and roll band". I always thought that comment was bit self-deprecating, but after hearing this ...

  • it sounds punk...wow that's awesome

  • This song is incomplete.

  • Where can I get this song?

  • la letra es buena pero odio a quienes la cantan

  • Is that Roy Young on the organ? Thanks.

  • @dunskie Ringo is actually drumming on the Star Club recordings. The recordings took place after they fired Pete. It was claimed by Lingasong that the recordings happend prior to their signing with EMI in order to get around the legality (or lack thereof!).

  • @AppleCorp3 Wow. Thanks for this info. I remember that on the record sleeve it said that Ringo just happened to be filling in for Pete Best - which he apparently did do on many occasions before joining the band. It seemed a bit of a wierd story. I know Pete Best never claimed otherwise. Your explanation clears it up.

  • @guruuDev Yeah, that was how they tried to get around the EMI contract by claiming it was much earlier and Ringo had "just happened" to be sitting in. Oddly enough it took The Beatles/Apple until the late 90s to finally gain control of the recording!

  • this is just friggin awesome. I've been a die hard Beatles fan for 15+ years, and I've never heard these recordings at the Star Club. John was right, this was their best period, the live, raw music is just amazing. And to think how young they were at this point. Damn they're the best band ever, always will be

  • OMG- Never heard more than the 30 seconds of this that has been around for years. Very nice to hear a bit more of it. I'd give anything to have the entire song. This is one of the most smoking ones from the Star Club tapes.

Great organ there- I wonder who sat in on this.

  • @AJJKRRR I think its lennon who did the organ but am that extremly sure, but i am quite sure that they did not have a "guest" musican playing with them

  • @lacadam

Umm... on the same record they have a 'guest musician' on vocal featured on Be-Bop-A-Lula. It was not the 1964 'fab four' yet, it was just their band with no fixed number of mandatory four members.

  • @lacadam The Beatles had loads of guest musicians and even a guest vocalist on two of the cuts at the Star Club. John wouldn't play keyboards until quite later.

  • @AJJKRRR @lacadam Roy Young sat in with the Beatles and was in Hamburg as an organist .(Brian Epstein invited by Brian Epstein to join the Beatles and return to England, which he turned down. This is more Roy's choice of stops and playing. He would later play the organ backing Tony Sheridan.

  • the beatles are red hot! <3

  • That's one rocking band...

  • i know i'm so red HOTHOTHOT

  • i love this one

  • You have written 12 books and are old.

This somehow is supposed to make you an authority on the matter?

Did you know Billy Lee personally?

  • @jt123egypte You wrote twelve books... but you misspelled "him". It just doesn't add up.

  • @trippygraffiti plus "yourself" is one word, that guy is no writer.

  • You must be joking. Billy Lee was well aware of the influence he and the rest of the Sun crew had on the Beatles and was proud of it. Nothing wrong with this cover.

  • @bogmantim, Just my opinion, the Beatles sound if they are covering a cover by Ronnie Hawkins of Red Hot (1959). Wouldn't be the first time (Kansas City cover combined Little Richard's version into a medley with Little Richard's song, "Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey."

  • @Renshen1957 , Aye the Ronnie Hawkins version sounds much more in line to what the Beatles played.

  • @jt123egypte i would be pleasured if any beatle covered any of my songs no matter how well they covered it

  • Raw and primitive = Rock and roll. Nobody ever did it better. Viva Los Beatles!

  • those bastards are fucking amazing! blows my mind to see and hear what was going on those early days. the 1960s beat era had to me the by far most electrifying years when it comes to music :D

  • No. He wouldn't. Billy Lee thought well of the likes of the Beatles and the Stones. He realised the strong inflence his music had on theirs ans was very obviously proud of it. This is a fair cover of an excellent record from Sun.

  • I always thought there was only 30 seconds of this that existed! Thank you for posting this. What I would give to hear the whole thing....

  • Perhaps the organ was overdubbed by a bootlegger?

  • @reverendflash no, they would often have a piano player or organ player from one of the other bands play with them. In fact that is how they first met Billy Preston who was playing with Little Richard at the time.

  • That may be true about Billy (and to a similar degree about how they met Ringo), but no where else in this collection of Star Club songs (of which there are dozens) do we ever hear a keyboardist jamming with them. It also sounds odd that the organ would only be in on the solo but nowhere else in the song.

  • Where did you get this? This is by far the longest version of Red Hot I've heard anywhere.

  • It's off the 'Live At The Star Club' album, there are a good few different versions with various track listings floating about. Found this one finally on Demonoid.

  • Wow man, AMAZING photos!

BTW; I have the album. It´s a double LP.

  • Who is playing the organ on this ? Sounds great though , good rocker .

  • Nope, Ringo had been a permanent part of the band since August 18, 1962. This was recorded December 31, 1962. The album is sometimes mislabeled as being from April of 62. It's not.

  • beatlesguru is correct. This is Ringo on drums. The Star Club bootleg has sometimes been mislabelled as being taped in April of 62 when Pete was still a Beatle. But the bootlegger was telling a fib to avoid a lawsuit. The problem for the bootlegger was that the tape was actually made in December of 62 when the Beatles were already under contract to EMI/Parlophone.

  • Pete was sick the night of the recording, and Ringo had played an earlier set with his band and filled in.

  • That was what the original album wrote, but this performance was New Years Eve 1962.

  • I finally understand rock n roll from the 50's omg

  • whos on vocal!! its GEORGE RIGHT???

I thought I was a BEATLES xpert but don kw whs singin, normally can tell their voice apart miles away!!!ANYONE???

  • I think it's John. It could be George, giving the rock 'n roll vocal of his LIFE, but my bet's on John.

  • I really think its George!!!

  • @handsomedevil98 obviously john?

  • It's George for sure.

  • It's John

  • On second listen it sounds like John and Georege sing in unison on the "My girl is red hot" parts, but then on the other parts, George is singing solo.

  • Comment removed

  • @blutocampbell you are partly right too. John sings "my girl is red hot" . George is singing the verses.

  • @marvy1118 you're partly right. George is singing the verse parts. John is singing the "my girl is red hot" part.

  • @RichieStarkey No way, man, listen to those nasal "girl"s in the chorus. Pure Harrison.

  • I guess no one in the band knew what "doodly squat" meant, so John just repeated the first line in the chorus.

Who's playing the organ? If Paul, then who's the bassist?

  • great rock and roll cover

  • are you sure?

  • This is Ringo. It's from the Star Club in December 1962 - Ringo joined the band that past summer.

  • The master tape for this song doesnt exsist anymore so any copies that show up are really rare. I looked at the album, its not on there.

  • Wow great song by Billy lee riley, not heard it by the beatles.Have a look at our effort.

  • Didn't know they covered this. Is Ringo the drummer here?

  • 'Live at the Star Club' is the name of the album. this was recorded on new years eve 1962 on a grundig home tape recorder. this is the ONLY version of red hotbeing covered by the beatles, this is what was recorded on that night, there is no fuller or more complete version.

  • Its really cool to see this video at last!!!! but how I wish and all the rest of people to hear ALL THE SONG COMPLETE cuz it isnt, please Bogmantin WE NEED ALL THE SONG COMPLETE

    ...PLEASE PLEASE US

  • is it actually 'live at star club'? or whats it actually called, can u link it?

  • Which "Live at the Star Club" ? The Sony version of 1996? I don't see it there. The Japanese CD manfactured by Teichiku Records? Not there. The original LP album? No. I have seen it on the Bootleg Anotholgies More (very brief) and the Beatles vs The Third Reich. This is the longest version I have heard to date. It is like the aborted Road Runner from the same Star Club tapes, a tantalizing glimpse of a lost performance.

  • Live at the Star Club, there are a few different track listings for it but i managed to come across the right one.

  • Where did you find this? What album is it on?
