Very good tutorial! As for the continuous mistakes about geography... I must confess I was kind of angry about calling "provinces" of Europe instead of "countries" until I heard that Americans have a problem with the geography, hahaha. In short, good job buddy!
I heard that Fireworks is only for prototyping websites. that means that I need another program if I want to make the entire website? after prototyping is done?
can u tell me how render and zoom an area in your flash map so that another small map can show up of the selected state of country ...plz help me...!!!

Great tutorial but i ask the same question as FCHollywoodFCB asking: is it possible to make it show some text when i mouse over a country? like this site:
Dude didnt know where spain was on the map bahahaha BUT.......BUT a very good tutorial taught me alot thankyou for spending the time explaining this. did exactly what you explained and mine looked all good. thumbs up
You have no right to call yourselves Americans, you are all foreigners in the USA and the real Americans are native Americans or red Indians as you call them...
Brill tutorial - makes my life a sinch!! To the Romans European countries were provinces and as far as I'm concerned, you're the Emperor of Flash! Nice going guy -excellent tut0rials
Thanx for the tutorial. With mine, the frame for each state overlaps the bordinering states (i did the U.S.). So, for example, CA covers most of NV, making it difficult to click NV. Moreover, when i hoover over the western part of NV, CA lights up.
Is there anyway to fix this (to make the part of the buttons that react to user actions snap to the border of each state?
I have the same problem .... even when i transfer a region to a blank document with a transparent background, it still reverts to the rectangular background in flash.. did you ever solve this? (aside from downloading the finished product)
@jpk2003 The same thing happens to me, I work for a company in Colombia, and some deparments cover the small ones, making it impossible to select them. Is there any way to fix this, I'd really appreciate your help.

If like, I've done everything you said, but you know how you said to use a map without writing, I used one without writing, but how do I put writing on it?
Also how do I make it so that like you can click on cities and it'll come up with a little pop up and say "this city was discovered in such and such" etc..how would I go about this?
Would it not be easier to just put the map in flash as a bitmap, then use - Trace Bitmap tool, then just click on each country which has been traced into a separate image and convert to symbol?
Do you know any interesting Flex tutorials? I'm into Java development for mobile devices and Flex is more fun then JavaFX, so I'm looking for some interesting "petty" projects...
Photoshop is for gay artsy type people, usually that use a mac. Fireworks is for real men... lol
Just kidding... the real answer is Photoshop is more popular, and widely used by pros than fireworks is. Plus there are different things you can do with both that the other cannot do. I have them all and I like fireworks better. I like illustrator more than photoshop too.
nice ... is there any way to enlarge the map after clicking on one of those buttons !!
lot of thx.

europe ist made up of provinces! theyre countries!

Great tutorial.
There is the slight problem where the bordering countries are affected.
To refine the button's active area, set a 4th keyframe in country's button. 'Hit'
Just selecting 'Add Keyframe' from the right-click menu will copy the image from the 'down' keyframe.
Then goto, Modify...Bitmap...Trace Bitmap...
Reduce the minimum area to 1, to increase the accuracy (increase if appropriate).
Now 'Test Movie'. and.... Bingo!!!

Thanks for the tutorial, very useful.
But, hey, have a look at an atlas, not knowing where Spain, France and Portugal are is really quite shocking.
